If you want to discover teaching in the best context (or that you already love teaching) and explore another part of Colombia, I definitely recommend you this experience. You work with small groups of up to 10 students, all very kind and curious, and the other teachers and founders are always available for any need. I taught mathematics, physics and English, and I was able to choose between preparing my own lessons or having them provided to me. I also enjoyed discovering the Llanos Orientales, its culture and its people through the many invitations from students' parents and fellow teachers alike. The bikes available are also super handy for exploring the surrounding villages, rivers, or anywhere around town. But what I truly found most enriching was the social impact of the project with Venezuelan children (all absolutely way too adorable : be warned, you may find it hard to leave 🫢). The NGO's founders genuinely strive to do everything they can to protect the children and give them the best possible chances of accessing education, thereby completely transforming their future opportunities. Our purpose as volunteers is more about giving students the opportunity to meet and interact with foreigners, and thereby inspire them to study and travel, than to fill a gap in teaching staff (which is good news for the children). It was interesting to learn more both about the living conditions of Venezuelan migrants in the region, and to see how the NGO approaches all these issues. It's clearly not an easy subject, but I greatly appreciated the founders' transparency and openness to discussing it at length and answering all my questions. In short, it was for me a first teaching experience under the best possible conditions, where the team never stopped surprising me with their kindness, their availability, and their flexibility to give me the best experience possible. I can only recommend that you go.

We had a great time helping Jane in her beautiful home. jobs consisted of cleaning the pool, painting the roof, re potting plants, strimming, lots of sweeping, watering plants, stacking wood, cleaning and cooking. Jane made us feel very welcome into her home and respected I had to do a little online work in the evenings for a few hours. Jane often made lunch (unless busy with the pottery) and wow Jane can cook. Jane helped us by picking us up and taking us us the the train station. We wish Jane all the best with future work awayers and the maintenance of her lovely big home and grounds.

This was without a doubt the best Workaway experience we have had, and we left with memories we will genuinely carry with us for life. From the moment we arrived, we were treated with so much warmth, kindness and respect that we immediately felt welcomed rather than just volunteers. The atmosphere was peaceful and relaxed, and it felt like becoming part of a family and community rather than simply helping at a project. The work itself was varied and enjoyable. We helped with general gardening duties, room cleaning and preparing spaces, but one of the absolute highlights was helping with a children’s camp. We had the opportunity to design activities and run them ourselves, which was so much fun and incredibly rewarding. Seeing the children enjoying themselves and getting involved was such a memorable experience. Outside of helping, we were also treated to amazing cultural experiences around nearby Melaka, which gave us a much deeper appreciation of local life and culture. The surroundings themselves are beautiful, peaceful and full of nature, with boats available to kayak on and lovely places to relax and unwind. What really made this experience special though was the hosts. The generosity, conversations, laughter and genuine care shown to us made this place feel very special. We honestly could not recommend staying here more highly. If you are considering applying, do it. You will leave with far more than you expected! 💥🐥💥!

We accepted Nathalie as a Workawayer because she chose to undertake a period of fasting before replying to us, believing it would give her more chance to be accepted when she has a clearer and purer mind. During her stay, Nathalie proved to be a dedicated and caring helper. She took excellent care of our dogs and of our garden. She consistently showed a strong willingness to contribute and went out of her way to ensure that we should be satisfied with her work. Future Workaway hosts will be pleased to be served by her when it comes to her skills in vegetarian and vegan cooking, complemented by her knowledge of nutrition. Nathalie is hardworking, considerate, and genuinely committed to supporting her hosts’ needs in the best way she can. We wish her every success in her future life experiences.

5 star treatment all around! Basil and his family (this includes the pets) were very warm and welcoming! There was a short introduction period where Basil would show me the process of how he takes care of Herby and Tillie throughout the days, and then left me to it whilst he was away on Holiday. Something really cool about Basil is that he's super cool when it comes to feeding you. Before he went on holiday and after he came back, he would always make me dinner and we would each next to each other, the dinners were always delicious! Basil and his family even took things to the next step, when he was away, his other family members were kind enough to provide dinner as well... which I was very grateful for. Herby (dog) and Tille (cat) both have their own unique personalities. Herby loves company and affection, playing, and also relaxing. Whilst he's got some health conditions which means you need to be a bit more cautious with how rough you play, that doesn't stop his spirit from wanting to live his life to the fullest! Tillie takes time to warm up to you, but so long as you know how to read cats body language, you'll understand when she wants affection and doesn't. she's super laid back though and loves to sit around in the sun or on the couch. Basil and the family also showed me around the small village, took me around to the local towns when they had to go there so I could see what it's like, lots of suggestions for places to go (despite me not going to too many places as I was busy a lot of the time on my laptop haha). Basil is honestly just an all around cool guy who wants the best for the people he cares about, and treats you with the respect you treat him with. He even asked for me to come out to some of the work tasks he was doing when he was around to get me out of the house, which I usually said yea to as it was nice to get out and do something different. I'm running out of space, so yea I'd 100% recommend Basil as he's an amazing host!

Thank you so much to the whole family for this amazing experience! From the very start Juan Camilo made me feel so welcome and comfortable, and went out of his way to give us the most incredible time in Tenjo. Our days consisted of helping to care for the horses with Don Alirio; (who was so patient with my terrible Spanish) it was lovely to see how much he cares for the horses. Then we would prepare food together, and I got to try so much delicious homemade Colombian food. I really enjoyed our afternoons in the town, getting coffee and playing so much monopoly deal and cambio, and watching films (and playing more monopoly of course) together at night. I was lucky enough to ride Rhianna, one of the family’s beautiful Friesians, which is a memory I won’t forget, along with the Cabalgata. I am already missing Aston and Ginebra, Gato and the horses so much. Shoutout to Emma, Lélé and Mathys who were the best fellow workawayers. I felt so welcomed into the family’s home and can’t thank Juan Camilo enough for his hospitality and for sharing their beautiful home and a glimpse into their life with us. I will remember my week here forever and have definitely made friends for life :) Until we meet again! Ruby xx

I spent five wonderful weeks in Macclesfield and enjoyed every moment very much 🌞🍃🌸 Bernward is an incredibly friendly and warm-hearted person who is very easy to talk to. He always takes the time to explain things properly and supports you patiently ☀️The work in the garden was one of my highlights. Being outdoors in fresh air, learning new things, and even creating my very first compost together felt very rewarding. I was also able to try many different things such as baking cakes and cookies 🍪, making applesauce, and learning new skills in the workshop. I made beautiful necklace pendants and a jewelry box with Bernward, and I enjoy them every day. Everything was explained patiently and in a very supportive way. The atmosphere in the house is incredibly warm and welcoming. You quickly feel at home here. What I also really enjoyed were the shared moments: game nights, movie evenings, and small trips together (to the sea, to see kangaroos and koalas, Victor Harbor, and much more). In addition, I also found time here for creativity, from painting to crafting. Thank you for the beautiful things I was able to see and experience. Overall, I am very grateful for this experience 🥰🌞 I learned a lot, felt very well cared for, and truly enjoyed everyday life here. I will definitely miss this place and can recommend it to anyone looking for a meaningful and warm-hearted Workaway experience. Thank you Barbara and Bernward for this wonderful time! 🧡

I highly recommend this project to anyone looking for a meaningful and enriching volunteer experience. It is truly a place where you can grow, contribute, and create beautiful memories. I volunteered at the Academy as an English teacher for one month, and I truly feel blessed for this opportunity. Working with the children was an unforgettable experience. They are incredibly kind, loving, and welcoming, which made every day meaningful and rewarding. The advanced English class, in particular, was very engaged, participative, and dedicated to learning. Luis, the project owner, is extremely attentive and always makes sure that volunteers feel supported and comfortable. The entire staff is excellent, friendly, professional, and always willing to help. The other teachers are kind, polite, and a pleasure to work with. The location is very convenient, with many stores nearby such as a pizzeria, pharmacy, supermarket and ATM. The facilities are good, and the food provided is satisfying. Overall, everything was very well organized and welcoming. I honestly have nothing to complain about. My experience was extremely positive in every aspect. Thank you so much!

We spent 10 days with Romi in the Sumatra jungle. It was a fantastic experience; we met lots of villagers, all very friendly and welcoming, making us feel at home. The day began with Rafli's fantastic breakfast, helping Romi, and then a refreshing dip in the river. Everything was excellent. Romi guided us through the jungle, giving us information about the local flora and fauna, and he also guided us on the three-day Bukit Lawang jungle trail! We highly recommend this experience, as there aren't many places like it in the world! Special thanks to Romi, Rafli, and Ipan for being fantastic!

Patrick and Leora are a sweet couple who stayed with me for 4 weeks, helping me around the garden. They worked well together as a team and made great improvements during their stay. Patrick's landscaping work and fruit tree pruning were a massive help and made a real difference to the property. Both Patrick and Leora approached their tasks with a positive attitude and were always willing to lend a hand. They loved Coco and enjoyed having him around the property. We cooked dinner together most nights and enjoyed each other's creations in the kitchen. It was a pleasure hosting them, and I wish them all the best for their future travels and adventures. I really hope, and I am rather sure we will meet again😉👍😊

Peter came together with Lidy. They were our first workawayers. They came last minute and we were very happy with them. Peter is a very pleasant person, calm and polite, asking good questions and having good suggestions for the outside area. He is very capable with the mowing machine and the chainsaw. Cutting a tree is no problem for him, he is a pro. He lays his honor in delivering a good job, not only mowing or cutting but also tidying. That way he is really a great help. He has a positive and proactive attitude and sees what needs to be done. He is also a good communicator, asking me f.e. how we want things done, or asking for more information if needed. We also look back fondly on the meals we shared. And it was a pleasure to see him enjoy the big hammock after the hard work and the self made lunch. :) We hope to see you again Peter!

Vera was such an excellent guest to host. She’s friendly and down to earth to deal with but also quite independent. While she stayed for roughly a week she stoically tackled the huge job of the creeping jasmine vines in the garden as well as some outdoor painting, water blasting, car cleaning and so on. Throughout I was quite confident leaving her to work independently - at times I was actually away and she just got on with it. As a person, she was very easy company and we had some good chats- she was particularly interested in visiting the nature in the area . I’d be happy to recommend her for any work you are considering you need help with.

I stayed with Heyner and Jenny for 3 weeks from end of May to mid-June and it was such an amazing experience! For everybody that wants to experience the rural costa rican life with the most heartwarming people, surrounded by animals and enjoying a very tranquil lifestyle - i can really recommend this place! The volunteer house is simple but comfortable. Everybody has their own room and there is a shared bathroom and washing machine. Everything is out of wood and completely open so you should be open to living very close to nature:) The work was about 3 hours/day and I mainly took care of the goats and sheep with Miguel, which was very easy. Don't forgot to pack clothes that are thin and can get dirty! Jennys food (3 meals a day for about $9) is amazing and i would really recommend spending those $9 a day, otherwise there is also no real possibility to cook for yourself/eat out. I would recommend checking if there are other volunteers staying as well, cause otherwise you might feel a little lonely or bored, because besides of work, the meals and some karaoke at night, you'll have a lot of free time. I would definitely recommend bringing books/work/projects;) There are some bikes that you can use so you can get to palmar norte (super markets, sodas and a thrift store) in about 20min or you can go to the waterfall(catarata), just ask Heyner he'll recommend you places and trips;) On my days off i went to Drake for one night which was very nice, Heyner was very helpful with planning the trip and arranging everything. Besides Heyner and Jenny, their daughter Axa, her boyfriend Eike (from Germany) and their nephew Miguel are living on the farm. Eike is fluent in english which can be helpful if you don't know any spanish;) Overall it was just a great experience and I'm always gonna remember my time with you guys! Muchísimas gracias Heyner, Jenny, Miguel, Axa, Eike y Rory para el tiempo que tuve con ustedes! Me sentí como en casa y los voy a extrañar!🫶🏻

I had the opportunity to spent only 3 days in this house. It's really cozy and comfortable, very close to the city center shopping mall and the stadium. I recommend this place if you want to enjoy the amazing Nagasaki .

Had an amazing experience staying at Dionny’s house. My days in Tinco were spent either working on the farm with Dionny for an hour or so, out and about with the other volunteers on a side mission (collecting wood from a random tree Dionny had bought, for example), or on day hikes in the beautiful mountains… but teaching English to the local children was the real highlight for me. Work was only 1-2 hours a day max, and they’re really flexible about which days you work. Alan was great with communication and has a good sense of humour. Would highly recommend this place to others!
