I had the privilege of volunteering at Ellen's guesthouse on the beautiful island of Koh Rong Samloem earlier this year. Ellen answered all my questions leading up to my arrival promptly and she gave suggestions on the best way to travel to the island. The room that I stayed in was lovely and clean with my own bathroom. The workload is dependent on how many guests are staying but includes cleaning the guest rooms, making beds, sweeping and cleaning the common areas. There can be alot of free time depending on who is arriving. M'PaiBai is a lovely village full of expats and local people, there are a number of restaurants and bars and it is easy to get taxi boats to the nearly island of Koh Rong and back to the mainland. I thoroughly recommend coming to volunteer for Ellen if you get the opportunity of visiting this beautiful part of Cambodia.

Staying at Nicola’s place as my first work away was a perfect match. In total it was sadly only a little bit more than a week that I could spent there and it went by so fast. Yet it left a wonderful and lovely, intense memory. Nic and his family (that was also visiting for a few days) immediately welcomed me into their home like a family member. We shared a lot of super tasty food, tried almost every wild plant in the garden and talked for many, many hours. Nic is a wonderful person. With him you can have deep conversations about absolutely anything since he is so universally interested, it’s an absolute blessing. Going for a little hike in the rain together could be quite a bad experience, but I loved every second of it. And the “dirty work” we did together wasn’t half as bad either, since it’s done in the most beautiful landscape you could ever imagine, surrounded by colorful bugs and chirping birds. Working together with him and his brother was really easy and a lot of fun. I going to miss this place, thank you very much!

Having Alina here has been a real privilege: she settled in perfectly straight away as if she’d been here before, she studied the edible plants in the woods, cooked delicious meals and helped keep the house tidy with enthusiasm and a positive attitude. She helped clear out the cellars and take care of the olive trees in the fields, always with a smile. On top of that, we discovered we share many passions, including Etruscan history, coriander and old vans! Alina isn’t just sweet, kind and thoughtful, but also full of interests and great vitality. Her only flaw? Leaving too soon :)

This was my first workaway experience and it couldn't have been better! I spent two weeks at the shelter and even though I was the only volunteer at the time I felt totally at home. The work was easy and I loved it, as I was walking the dogs at the shelter in the mornings and did whatever else was needed in the evening (sometimes gardening or brushing the dogs fur). Afterwards I would help with the horses and had time to play with the dogs at Dani's house :) They were all amazing and such good-natured dogs, it was a pleasure spending time with them and it was so hard to leave them after the two weeks! Even though I didn't really speak Spanish, everyone was so welcoming and going out of their way to ensure I was feeling comfortable and had a nice stay! Dani is such an optimistic and kind person, I couldn't imagine a better person to care for all the dogs that are living with her. I often worked together with Nacho, who I shared very interesting conversations and a lot of laughter with and who would help immediately if you had any problems :)) I will really miss all the dogs and people and would totally recommend this workaway, especially if someone loves animals, nature and good company and would like to press pause on the fast-paced lifestyle for some time :) Muchas gracias por todo

Vivi came here twice and stayed for around 6 weeks. She was great with the horses spending lots of time with them which they really need. In the house she did all the tasks she was asked to. She is a very good cook but most of all is a lovely young lady who is very reliable and trustworthy and is welcome back anytime.

Fiorina is a wonderful person — friendly, respectful, and full of positive energy. She followed all the rules, adapted easily, and was very considerate. She even helped clean the house without being asked, treating my home like her own. Highly recommended to any host. Thank you again, Fiorina!

We have been working with volunteers for 10 years, I can clearly describe Anna as one of our best. She is doing properly what ever she does. Always, energic, always positive. I highly recommend her to all hosts. Thank you Anna for your super effort and friendship. Hoping to see you again

Evita stayed with us for about two months, and immediately integrated into our family and community. She's a sweet, kind, and polite girl, always ready to help us at home or with the children. Her added value? She speaks excellent Italian, which made everything much easier. We know it wasn't a goodbye, but rather a see you later. Now we look forward to being invited to one of your concerts! We miss you :) Oi Evitaaaaa oi evita miaaaaa

Ed is the best!! From day one, when he arrived completely soaked from the rain, he had a smile on his face and carried a genuine gratitude with him wherever he went that also inspired everyone around him to practice and express gratitude in daily life. Ed is a really hard worker, really responsible and disciplined, and is a calm, warm person. Ed spent about 3 months with us, the first month I myself wasn't there, but constantly heard from other managers how much of a help he had been from day one - friendly, open, ready to help with anything to support the people here. He loves gardening and chopping wood and when he really cares about something, the most important thing for him is to do it well and truly, not transactionally or half heartedly. I really felt that in the time that he spent here, that he was doing what he was doing because he wanted to, not just because he had to as part of an exchange. In fact, I felt from the beginning that Ed didnt treat this as an exchange at all and really saw himself as part of the place, taking care of his surroundings, and doing what was needed, regardless of time and working hours or the intensity of the work. Thank you so much Ed and looking forward to the next moment we see each other again.

We were able to host Alison for 2 weeks in April, and on our end, everything went smoothly! She mostly gave us a hand with outdoor tasks like planting seeds, cutting grass, making brush/wood piles. The work may have been a bit monotonous, but Alison was very precise and always communicated well. We found Alison to be very pleasant and reliable, and we can definitely recommend her to other hosts! Thank you, again, and all the best to you, Alison!

Hosting Sawa was a truly positive and heartwarming experience. Many of the tasks here were completely new for her — from outdoor work to the whole European kitchen culture and household organization — but she was always very attentive, motivated and genuinely interested in learning. Because of this attitude, she was able to help a lot and achieved much more than one would normally expect in such a short time. She was often surprisingly skilled with practical tasks, especially when working with wood. For example, she became quite good at debarking logs and generally handled woodworking tasks with more confidence and intuition than I would have expected from someone without much previous experience. I also appreciated that she was always interested in understanding the background and context of things. We had many intelligent and personal conversations, and she came across as both mature and reflective, while still keeping a youthful curiosity and enthusiasm. Another thing I really liked was how much she enjoyed nature and wildlife. She spent a lot of her free time outside and made great use of the thermal camera and binoculars to observe deer and other wild animals. She also interacted very gently and naturally with the chickens and sheep. Overall, Sawa was respectful, curious, easy to host and genuinely pleasant to have around. I am grateful for her help and can definitely recommend her as a Workawayer.

Sorry for leaving this feedback a bit late, I stayed there in March, but I really wanted to recommend this Workaway. Alvin and Alice are such genuine, supportive, kind people, and the kids are wonderful too. Labuan is a beautiful place, and every single day I felt so blessed to be there. The accomodation itself is lovely, and having several volunteers around makes everything even more welcoming and creates a great atmosphere. It’s a really warm and supportive environment. The kids love to learn, which makes the experience even more rewarding, at the same time, you end up learning so much from them as well. There are also plenty of activities to do, so you’ll never feel bored. Overall, an amazing experience that I would wholeheartedly recommend!

Delwyn helped me out in my Guesthouse on Koh Rong Samloem - Cambodia and she was absolutely brilliant. Really easy to be around, very social and helpful. She travelled the world, is well prepared and is very adaptive to different circumstances. I highly recommend her.

Ilse was a wonderful volunteer at our community. She was kind, respectful, hardworking, and connected very well with the children and the community. She helped with teaching, children’s activities, and daily programs with great love and positivity. We also enjoyed a beautiful cultural exchange together. She prepared Dutch food for us and enjoyed our local porridge and meals. We stayed very well together as one family. We highly recommend Ilse to future hosts and would gladly welcome her back again. Thank you, Ilse, for your support and kindness!

We had such a wonderful time staying with Hannah and her family during our Workaway in Australia. From the very first day, we felt incredibly welcomed and comfortable. Hannah is such a warm, caring and generous person, and her two kids are full of energy and fun — always running around and bringing life into the house, but truly lovely children. Her husband was mostly working while we stayed there, but whenever we saw him, he was super kind and friendly as well. We had our own little cabin which gave us privacy and made the whole experience even more comfortable. The outdoor shower was also a really cool and unique experience that we genuinely enjoyed. The work was exactly as described: around 5 hours a day, fair and well organised. Hannah always respected the agreed working hours, which we really appreciated. On top of that, she often took us along to local events, to the beach, shopping trips, and generally made a huge effort to include us in everyday life. She also cooked for us regularly and always made sure we felt at home. One important thing to mention is that having a car definitely makes life easier in this area since it’s a bit remote. But even there, Hannah helped us so much — she actually helped connect us with people locally so we could find and eventually buy our own car nearby, which made a huge difference for our travels. Overall, this was an amazing Workaway experience and we are very grateful for the time we spent with this lovely family. We would absolutely recommend staying here to anyone looking for a genuine Australian family experience, kindness, fairness and a beautiful atmosphere. Thank you so much again for everything!
