    Description

My name is Anam, and I live and write here under the guidance of SUNYATA.

Staying with SUNYATA is not an ordinary experience. It is an encounter that changes how you see life itself.
SUNYATA was born in a traditional Korean yangban (noble) house, and has lived for decades in the forgotten teachings of Buddhism and the spirit of Confucian wisdom. Through this way of life, SUNYATA has realized what genuine happiness is, and what it means to live as a true human being. Here, you will not just find accommodation, you will enter a way of living where nature, silence, and wisdom meet. Living beside SUNYATA, I myself have discovered peace and clarity I never knew before. I realized that true happiness does not come from possessions or achievements, but from living with respect, simplicity, and compassion. Meeting SUNYATA is not something you can measure with money or words. It is a blessing, even if most travelers do not recognize it at first. But for those who are open and sincere, this place offers a chance to taste a different kind of life, one that may awaken something deep inside you.
We live in harmony with animals and nature, so our meals are completely vegan.
We eat only two meals a day, in simplicity and gratitude.
Before Western culture came to Korea, most Koreans lived as vegans and did not consume milk products.
Here, you can experience this forgotten tradition again—
a way of eating that respects life, reduces desire, and nourishes both body and spirit.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Living with SUNYATA is more than a cultural exchange — it is a chance to touch the roots of Korean spirit.
Here you will not only experience life in a traditional Korean house, but also learn forgotten values of Confucian and Buddhist wisdom. With SUNYATA, daily life becomes a teaching: You learn how to live in harmony with nature, how to respect every living being, and how to discover peace within yourself.
As a foreigner myself, I realized here that culture is not just food, clothes, or language, it is a way of being. Through SUNYATA’s guidance, I began to understand what true happiness means — a happiness beyond possessions, rooted in simplicity and compassion.
For highly hidden spiritual beings who are seeking to find their true self, this place is a rare opportunity to encounter Korea’s living soul through SUNYATA.

  • Help

    Help

We do not “need help” in the ordinary sense. This place is already sustained by donations, including a contribution of $40,000 Canadian from me, Anam, which makes it possible for workawayers to stay here freely. SUNYATA has no attachment to money and does not earn through work. We live only through the flow of giving. Still, daily tasks remain part of life. Cleaning, cooking, repairing the house, or working in the garden are not chores here. They are a form of meditation, a way to purify one’s ego and to create a more healing environment for everyone who comes after you. By helping in these simple ways, you are not supporting us only, you are supporting your own awakening, and making this place a sanctuary where others can also heal.
