Hello,

My name is Vera and I am a Dutch woman travelling and working in New Zealand for a number of months. I arrived in New Zealand on March 9th, 2026 on a Working Holiday Visa. Through Workaway I hope to learn about and experience as much of this beautiful country as possible.

About me: I would describe myself as a social introvert with an open mind. I am excited to meet new people and hear their stories, but I also don’t mind spending some time by myself. I love to hike and wander through nature as well as explore cities. As hobbies I enjoy photography and playing games. I am a vegetarian, but other than that I am not a picky eater. As a person I am calm, friendly, eager to learn, creative, and I am a big family person.

While I am here in New Zealand I hope to meet locals and learn about the flora and fauna, traditions, history, and culture, with maybe a little touch of LOTR as well. I also enjoy meeting other travellers from around the globe to share experiences together.

Through previous Workaway experiences I have gained some experience working on a small farm, gardening, housekeeping, and animal care. Furthermore, I have experience as an au pair and I love working with kids. Professionally, my background is in marketing, with additional skills in content creation, graphic design, and Photoshop. If needed, I would also be happy to help with this.

Through previous Workaway experiences and jobs I have gained some experience in animal care, working on a farm, fruit picking, gardening, housekeeping and cooking. I also have experience as an au pair and love taking care of kids. My professional background is in marketing and content creation.

I am a fast learner and always try to do my best and put in my full effort, although I can be a little clumsy sometimes.

I had a great stay with Margaret, Derek and Marshall (the sweetest dog!). Margaret is a fantastic host who provided a comfortable place to stay and clear instructions on tanks that needed to be done. I found the routine very relaxed and learned a lot about the local area. A great way to start my adventure in New Zealand.

Vera filled in last minute and filled up her 7 days very productively, doing cleaning, washing, ironing, vacuuming and walking my dog Marshall most mornings and evenings. Vera’s work was at a high standard and she an Marshall got on very well.
We even managed to fit in some fun board games and cards.
Very happy to recommend Vera as a Workawayer.

I had a lovely stay with Ama in here house in Nanaimo. She gave very fair and variant tasks to do during the day, but left me with plenty of time to discover the surroundings. Vera was very helpful and did both housework and garden work .
