I truly had a wonderful time with Paul and Jayne. I felt very comfortable, almost like being at home. I really appreciated all the opportunities you gave me to join local events and visit nearby places. I was able to discover so much about the beauty and charm of the Bega Valley. I would love to come back and visit your farm again in the future. Thank you again for everything!

I was really happy with Svenja, who not only brought good horsy skills along, but also very good communication. We had a good time cooking (with Paprika!), horseriding and caring for the horses and cats with some good miracles happening. Not to forget intense talks about Life, the Universe, and everything. Thank you very much for your input and help!

I LOVED staying with Judith, Dave and the kids. I was welcomed warmly and immediately eased into family life and routine, took part in games nights, enjoyed delicious healthy meals (and home made bread!!!!!) and good conversations about the kiwi culture and cultural differences. The kids are wonderful and so fun to be around - joyful, well behaved, smart, polite and very open to new people. Judith and Dave trusted me with them from the first day on and I felt like the big sister right away. I highly recommend staying with them if you love to dive into family life, take a few hikes and runs and want to be close to Wellington CBD but still live in a calm neighbourhood close to nature. A perfect place to explore the laid-back region of Lower Hutt and get insights into a multi-cultural family! I would always come back and hope to stay in touch :) All the best!

Rose and Simon applied to volunteer at my place for just 10 days (not 2 weeks) which I usually do not accept because once you show people the routines it takes a while and by the time they learn how everything works, they leave..... In this case I made an exception because they mentioned they had horse experience, because their parents have a farm at home. Therefore, it did not come as a surprise that I could leave them the feeding and mucking work without many explanations, because they knew already what was to be done. If there were any questions, I was around the corner... Most of the time they worked alongside another helper, so they were finished after breakfast time. For me alone, all the feeding and mucking takes about 2-3 hours, evening feeding another 40 minutes. For the three of them, I didn't think it was too overwhelming, (no snow or frost was involved) so I asked them to do some painting and enhancements to the paddock and some odd jobs. They did such a good job in accomplishing any task (if I - or they - really should have missed it, 1000 thanks for it!) so that there was never any impression or mentioning the workload would be too much, because there was no communication at all about it. To the contrary - once, I asked they should just call it a day when they were putting another stone onto the path in the paddock. Instead, they were absolutely committed to finish it. So I can't understand the review at all, as we had enough time to go horseback riding into the countryside (which obviously was one of the goals). Only considering the fact that they were in the situation of coming home after a very long journey and the possible depression about being back in the hamster wheel of "normal" life I can try to understand it led them to write such a negative review. Especially considering the story they told me about another workaway/wwoof host somewhere in the Balkan countries who had let them be responsible 24/7 for his hostel and also had them doing the troubleshooting for him, being a not so nice person himself... (or did I get the story wrong...)? Being considered as worse than that lets me look like the greatest exploiter on earth... or, communication should be clearer in any case. Reviews like this leave me more cautious about potential new workawayers. Living and being (and riding) with horses is such a privilege, but it comes with a price, and it is hard work, as any horseowner knows. If you don't want this, better book farm holidays. P.S. The entry in my guest book reads: "Thank you for the nice time spent here with you, the cats and the GREAT horses. We wanted to have an experience with Icelandic horses and we have not been disappointed! It was a nice step of our one year travel to end up here"...

Staying with Melinda and her family was a wonderful experience! We really loved getting to know them, their community and Albany. Helping around the house and garden was really fun. We had to organize some things, which was never a problem because the working hours were really flexible. Melinda was very supportive and helped us a lot along the way. If we’re ever back in Albany we’ll definitely come by again :)

Hannah was such a great Workawayer. She was an Amazon woman - strong and capable - learning quickly and always ready to do the garden project tasks with enthusiasm and skill. While she was here, she did a lot of garden clearing, apple picking, heavy haulage and plenty of brick laying and concrete mixing. She was very dependable and good at working unsupervised. She was also a great part of the team that was here at the time, getting on well with everybody and always a positive and happy presence. Very easy to host - always keeping things clean and tidy - and going with my long list of `house rules' I would welcome Hannah back any time and can heartily recommend her to any future hosts or employers. So grateful for all your help Hannah - Happy travels!

I had a really great experience at this Workaway! The place is in an amazing location, just steps away from beautiful beaches, perfect for relaxing and enjoying the surroundings after your tasks. I spent a week taking care of the dogs, and I found the work to be very fair and manageable. I really enjoyed spending time with the animals and felt comfortable throughout my stay. One thing to keep in mind is that the house is very open, so there are quite a lot of insects around. Because of this, it might not be for everyone – but if you don’t mind that, it’s absolutely worth it. Overall, it was a wonderful experience that I truly enjoyed. I would definitely recommend this place :)

Lila was a great help during her stay here. She helped look after the animals, gardening, mulching and tree planting working carefully and steady. We deconstructed and moved a large shed with the help of many friends and neighbours while she was staying, and was great at working as part of a team. Also, she made some lovely meals, and is a great cook. I saw her art work and she is very talented should you have any fine art that needs doing. Lila is bright and friendly and I would highly recommend to all hosts. Thank you Lila! You are welcome back any time.

I stayed with Mie for a little over two months at the beginning of 2026. It was such a special and holistic experience. I feel lucky to have met such a kind and respectful group of students. The lessons are fast-paced and you have between 1-4 students at a time, which allowed me to get a better sense of each students individual personality and learning style. Over two months I really had the chance to connect with every student. The content of the lessons varied but were always planned out and explained in detail prior to beginning. If you have questions you can always ask. You also create your own lesson plan for the Saturday classes. When it came to the living situation, Mie is so sweet and made the transition to living in Japan so smooth. The room you stay in is comfortable and has everything you might want or need. Her house is in an amazing location. You are a five minute walk from a train station that gets you to Hakata in 40 minutes. You are also biking/walking distance to a very nice gym, library, and cafe. Mie consistently checked if I needed help with anything. She also cooked a large meal three times a week and these were something I always looked forward to. She made a variety of Japanese food and they were always so delicious. She even taught me how to make my favorites and find the ingredients so I could recreate them back at home. Mie was also very generous with her time in showing me around Fukuoka. We went to some temples and monuments and on a beautiful hike. Because she knew how much I love to try new food, she provided me with some background on Japanese cuisine and took me to try various items. These excursions were such a special and memorable part of my experience. Overall this was an amazing experience and Mie demonstrated more kindness than I could summarize here. I absolutely recommend it!

I had wonderful experience in this Hostel. Generally everything is very vel maintained here, it can be a role model for other hostels. Paul is super chilled and cool guy. The task are very easy and there is not much work, mostly sit at the reception.

This has been one of my best Workaway experiences. I get to do what I love—taking lovely, smart, and understanding dogs out for walks in the morning, enjoying the sunshine, and trying new “Michelin-style” dishes in the evening. Working with Galya feels as smooth and in-sync as a staff engineer and a project manager. Whenever I slip up, she steps in immediately to fix things—never any complaints, just moving forward together. Their home is incredibly generous, with unlimited beef, cheese and fruit, and Galya is an amazing cook. I often get to enjoy her delicious dishes😋 This is what a beautiful life looks like!🥳

Quentin and Paola were here for nearly 4 weeks. They helped with many springtime tasks and were always willing and generous with their effort. They were very kind to the animals and poultry, herding and feeding them. They are an excellent team working steadily in a quiet calm way. Thank you both for choosing to stay here! I recommend to other hosts.

I stayed 5 weeks as a volunteer in December. The experience was amazing and I loved my stay. I had to organize one activity per day for the guests. I met amazing people and really felt like I was home there with the guests but also with the staff. I would completely recommend you to volunteer there but make sure of two things : - you're social and love to meet people all the time. It's your job to meet & gather people. - you're ok to be in a dorm with 3 other guests that are changing quite often If those 2 things are OK with you then there's not doubt that this place is heaven on earth and you will feel right at home there :)

I really felt in love with Jericó and Ian so happy to got the chance to volunteer at this finca. Communication was always easy and I enjoyed my time there a lot. With fresh vegetables from the garden we ate always fantastic. I hope to go back there at some point and I am gonna have this time I spent there for my lifetime to carry with me. Gracias Aaron for the opportunity and wishing you the best to evolve your project.

¡Totalmente recomendadas!

This was my first experience as a voluntary and If you’re looking for more than a voluntering this is the place. Karuna and Ramon are amazing people. They taught me skills in construction, but these come with love, passion, confidence and patience. I understood the meaning of support in the comunity and something very important is that we are humans; we have different stories about sadness, happiness, lost and suffering but at the end there are people like them that make you feel in home just preparing a delicious meal, giving advices, sharing beatiful sunsets and talking about many items. Thanks my friends!!!

We spent a lovely month in Gillian’s beautiful garden. Our daily task was to look after the hens, the 38 chicks we watched grow up, and Bruce the rabbit. Gill taught us how to look after the garden and her polytunnel, which requires a great deal of precision and quite a bit of energy. Beyond the work, Gillian is a very active woman with a keen artistic sense and remarkable cooking skills. If you enjoy art and/or cooking, she’ll be delighted to chat with you about these topics! The house is a one-hour walk from the nearest village and a two-hour walk from local amenities. If you don’t have a car, as was the case for us, trips into town are rather limited and depend on Gill’s schedule. The surrounding countryside and towns offer some lovely walks to enjoy in your free time and on days off. A big thank you to Gillian, who gave us such a warm welcome and taught us so much about garden maintenance. Despite a few communication issues at the start of our stay, we had a wonderful March surrounded by animals, art and, above all, chicks.

It was so wonderful to stay with you and your amazing (and extended) family for the time I did. Although I can’t guarantee you guys got out as much of the experience as I did, I hope you enjoyed the extra company. You guys went above and beyond to make it super special and I learnt and did things I never expected to - ie butchering a chicken (thank you Melita for being a good teacher and for all the food too!), milking a cow, making cheese….! And I will definitely be storing so many memories away. I loved working on the farm and picking coffee berries, despite not being a coffee drinker myself I’ll definitely appreciate the time and effort that goes into producing coffee more than I did before. The animals were so cute and I loved seeing how free range and happy the chickens are - to many more chicks making it even busier soon! I felt very lucky to be able to see and hold the bunny babies and Silkie chicks and turkeys. Of course I couldn’t leave out Callie and Rocky who I absolutely had soft spots for. I had such a fun time with Alan and we made a good team working on the farm and doing our various jobs. Thank you Alan for keeping me entertained with playing games and including me with your cousins which was so fun, as well as being a very useful translator and telling me lots of facts about Guatemala and the area and nature. Leslie, I know we had a lot more to say to each other (or at least I did) but I really enjoyed spending time working together and I hope one day I can return and have worked on my Spanish so more of my personality comes out and we can communicate in more than grunts 🤣 Such a power woman! Keith I loved working on the farm with you and although we weren’t physically together, it was so peaceful out there doing our jobs and coming together to chat about random things or religion or being back home. It was super nice to learn all about you and things you had to say. (Also nice to bond over not understanding most of the conversation around us 🙈). And Maria you have such a big, kind and generous heart which I can see why so many people call you mum. (And dad to you Keith too). Thank you for being so open with showing me your passion and including me with all of your family, I felt very privileged to be able to share that. Please tell all the kids that they were so kind and fun, I’m keeping my necklaces safe and that hopefully I’ll be back one day to play again. And Maria your mums cooking that I tried really was so so delicious :) But this was such an authentic experience that I’m so grateful to have had as it feels so important to me to experience more than just tourist stops when I’m travelling. Being able to contribute in my small way was so rewarding and I thoroughly enjoyed myself with your family being so generous to me. And of course trying so much delicious traditional Guatemalan food that I otherwise probably wouldn’t have. Thank you so much and I hope that everything continues to grow and develop on the farm and with your mission.

From the very beginning until the end, we always feeled like at home. The whole family warm welcomed us and we could exchange a lot about the peruvian culture. The work with Dionny in the field was also a really nice experience. Sometimes we went for an ice cream in Carhuaz after the field ✌🏻Dionny teached us aswell how to cook the amazing ceviche 😋 and other traditional dishes. The whole family is very openmind and love to share stories/cultural topics. We also had enough time to discover the Cordillera Blanca and to do some hikes. Alan really knows his region perfectly and organized us different hikes. He also helped us to be ready for the Santa Cruz. Dionny, Alan, Mafi, Margarita, Valentina, los cuyos y los niños - muchas gracias a todos 🫶🏻
