    Description

I am offering for you to enjoy my permaculture garden with me in Beautiful rural Leitrim.

I’ve been here 3 years now, so it is starting to take shape. There are veggie beds and polytunnel , with soil improving in fertility each year.
housing for a few hens and presently 2 turkeys.
During the last year I have been planting veggies, flowers and trees, scything rushes, preparing beds for planting, weeding, watering, also daily care of poultry.
I have raised chicks in incubator.
It would make me happy that while you offer me light help in the garden , we can chat and I can pass on my know how which I am sure will be valuable later in assisting with your ventures.

Any food grown - veggies, fruit and eggs - are eaten by myself and volunteers.
The flowers, art, animals and garden are for our personal enjoyment.
This is a hobby, and is a not for profit project.

I have used some feng shui principles when I designed the garden. I find this aspect very interesting and like to incorporate different ideas . I have been experimenting with electroculture to aid plant health.
There is potential for fun art and sculpture projects if that interests you - beautiful murals have already been created.
Indoor crafts also - I can teach you macrame, wire work, ceramics techniques.
No kiln presently although I do have ceramics background, can teach making pots on electric pottery wheel.
paints , textiles, sewing materials available.
Various board games and ping pong.

There is a very large barn for these art and craft projects
It also has seating area with many sofas, with wood stove, for fun social gatherings.

Meals: I will shop and cook evening meal, volunteers help themselves to snacks, lunch and breakfast from foods provided.
    Several breakfast choices
There will be regular refreshment breaks and lunch
    Also main meal in evening
If you want special drinks, chocolates etc, please bring these!
    !
Some volunteers love to cook and want to make their regional dishes.
You are welcome to treat us all to your cuisine, but there will be no expectation, only if you enjoy.

Some help with vegetable preparation for the evening meal would be appreciated sometimes.

I am an older active lady with:
2 cats, chickens, turkeys, and 1 rabbit at moment.

    .
I’m artistic and love to chat on diverse topics.
I am very interested to learn about your lifestyle, family your culture and hobbies.
I can help you with improving your English, which I find very interesting and enjoyable.
My accent is very clear standard English.
so hopefully this will make communication straightforward.
I will invite you to community events that are happening.

Uplifting conversations, learning about your studies, work life inspires me.
Your culture, any hobbies or games you want to teach me, recipes and photos from your home country or travels. How your social life and way of life is in your country.
This might encourage me to travel there myself.
Because I can accommodate several volunteers at once, you are likely to meet other interesting people here to work and share leisure activities with which could lead to ongoing friendships, as has been the case since I started hosting. Definitely volunteers have helped improve each others language skills.

I hope you will be inspired by my vision, both for the land here and hopefully be useful input for your own future projects
I’m very much looking forward to hearing from you!

You will see veg and flower growing methods, ground preparation, digging, planting, watering, propagating, weeding, harvesting, learn how to Scythe if you like, and see compost making in action.

there are many wild plants available to forage, I will explain different species if you like and we can make smoothies with them.
The following is a list of seasonal tasks, FYI

As stated above, you may be helping a bit with some of these alongside me with guidance. This is not farm labour, or skilled work . You will not be expected to be outside in bad weather, and hours can be flexible.

Spring: preparing trays, planting seeds, watering, turning and moving compost
Summer: weeding, ongoing care and some harvesting.
In Autumn as well as picking vegetables,
I can show you how to make pesto, jam, chutneys, cider vinegar, bottled fruit, fermented veg, dehydrated foods.
Winter- preparing beds, tree planting, removing old roots.

Each activity is explained and will be beginner friendly.
I work alongside volunteers and when you are confident I will expect you to get on independently for a while.
Often there are at least 2 volunteers but be prepared for being an only volunteer.

Checking on chickens, turkeys and rabbit daily, feeding and cleaning as required.

    Campervan and tent camping space.
You can do a washing machine load each week.

I am familiar with different diets, but if you require strict vegan, restricted whole food diet with special ‘superfoods’ or gluten free you may need to provide these ingredients and prepare them as it can make extra work providing meals for different diets /variants when several people are staying.
I eat meat, and there will usually be alternating meat and veggie meals.
I love cooking and want to enjoy it .

So diet restrictions, any Allergies that could affect your stay (pets, insects, heat, ingredients, sensitivities ) any health issues, also medications you are relying on -
As a host it is my responsibility to be aware of these.
During our initial communication please tell me and certainly BEFORE you arrive, (It is not ok to get here and then say you are vegetarian etc. )
    Thank you for your understanding.
