    Description

New permaculture project on 3 acres in Beautiful rural Leitrim.
The last year we have been landscaping, tree planting, building the chicken house and run, hatching chicks, Erecting the polytunnel and creating many outside organic vegetable beds. Also addressing drainage, and some fun art projects, decorating etc.
We have made chutneys, cider vinegar, bottled fruit, fermented veg, dehydrated and some foraged foods.

Excited to start planting up early this spring and enjoying abundant food production.

During the last year, loads has been achieved inside the farmhouse and out including improved heating system, and digging large pond, clearing land and turning a rubbish tip into a little Japanese water garden. .

    A lot further to go!

There is natural clay from the land to make pottery and sculpture,
No kiln presently although I do have ceramics background and some pottery tools.
If you can make a kiln let me know!!!
Plenty of art and sewing materials.
Cosy cottage with open fireplace on chilly evenings.
Comfortable warm bedrooms in the cottage,
camping space and caravan. Please state if you are willing to share with same gender volunteer: this flexibility will allow more chance of a space being available.
I can accommodate gluten free diets.
Presently I am not able to offer strict veg, other allergy or vegan diets.
    Non smokers only please.
If you enjoy regular alcohol, this listing will not be suitable.

    I live here alone with:
2 bouncy kittens, 11 chickens, 1 rabbit at moment.
I’m artistic and love to chat on diverse topics, very interested to learn about your lifestyle, family your culture and hobbies.

I will share my lifestyle and am happy to chat, so this could improve your English,
Because I can accommodate several volunteers at once, you are likely to meet other interesting people here to work and share leisure activities with which could lead to ongoing friendships, as has been the case since I started hosting. Definitely volunteers have massively helped each others language improvement.

I will share my knowledge and practical know how on building maintenance, gardening, cooking and art, so hopefully a great learning experience.

I hope you will be inspired by my vision, both for the land here and hopefully be useful input for your own future projects

    Help

The main help I need immediately is carpentry and joinery skills. This is for a couple of small projects including making chicken tractor/ coop, hooks, shelves up, mending polytunnel door, and other repairs and improvements involving wood. Also animal fencing.

    Sewing: making curtains.
    I have a sewing machine

    Basic Plumbing / fixing guttering

Experienced gardeners who could share planting and land use ideas in a few areas.

Also ongoing digging, planting, watering, propagating, weeding, trimming hedges
Caring for cats, rabbit and chickens. For this,
some experience would be welcome and useful, but not essential.

    Groundwork, paths, more trench digging

    Decorating/painting walls internal and external.

Leitrim is a beautiful area of hills and lakes, ideal for cycling, walking and visiting ancient sites.

If I am going into town you are welcome to come along, and if I am invited to any gatherings or interesting local events, I will invite you also.
There are some beautiful scenic places to explore near here if you wish to go hiking and various local and national buses.

Sligo is a very lively town, full of restaurants, live music, clubs shopping.
There are many beaches near Sligo.
    Carrick is also accessible.
We are 5km from nearest village with pubs, small shops and post office. Bus twice a day to Sligo.
    Close to Uk border.
    Nearest Airport: Knock, Ireland west.
Plentiful Trains and buses from Dublin and Dublin Airport to Sligo then bus to Drumkeeran or Manorhamilton.
Your own transport would be very helpful but not essential.
