    Description

We are a multicultural blended family of 6 (baby girl Maia was born end of June) who enjoy being active in the outdoors, touring with our campervan when time allows, being part of a very cool church community and traveling overseas.
Judith came to New Zealand from Germany as a cycling tourist 6.5 years ago, bumped into Kiwi Dave and here we are now... Our son Louis is almost two, and he adores his two older brothers Riley and Jack (soon to be 14 + 12).
We moved to our current place in Lower Hutt a few years ago because we love the bush tracks here so much that we wanted to be close. There's several bush walks starting right next to our house.
Throughout our lives, both individually and together, we have done a lot of traveling and have enjoyed meeting locals and engaging with cultures rather than just being 'a tourist'. We have hosted many couchsurfers in the past (to be fair, that was before covid...), and would love to open our home again to people who are on their journey, and are willing to support us a bit in our busy lives... We look forward to hearing from you!!

Let's eat together! We love having people around for dinner and chatting away! Our kids can definitely help you improve your English, and you'd be more than welcome to go on some bush walks with us or mountain biking with Dave and the boys if you're interested and our time allows! We can give you plenty of insider tipps for the Wellington region when it comes to walks and other cool outdoors places/activities.

    Help

We're looking for people who are keen to become part of our family for a short period of time - meaning that we'd love to have you around for our evening meal, games, walks etc. - and for you to help us with daily tasks in the house (entertain kids, maybe clean our windows?!, help with dishes, vacuuming etc.).
We're specifically keen to hear from you if you love little (and older) kids and you enjoy looking after them and giving them lots of different and creative opportunities to play and explore. Our toddler Louis is full of energy and loves when people interact and play with him intentionally. With the addition of our new baby, it's not always easy to give him that at the moment. So while Judith is mostly around and you wouldn't have to fully care for the kids, we'd appreciate your support for a few hours a day - just before dinner time is often crucial for example, so we can actually get some food on the table ;-)
If you like playing with Duplo, building forts, getting dirty around the house or in the sandpit, reading and watching books and hammering fake nails into a fake workbench - please get in touch with us!

We definitely wouldn't mind having some Germans who can help Dave and the kids speak more German!!! (Dave's been learning for the last 4.5 years and the boys are picking up as they hear us speaking to our little one...) Other languages are absolutely welcome too!

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

We have a guest room/office space which you will be able to use for yourself. There's also a bathroom in the laundry which will be mostly yours (except from Judith doing the washing...). If you'd rather stay in your own campervan, you can park it safely in our driveway with electricity and water supply.
We normally eat dinner together; breakfast and lunches are basic in New Zealand, but there'll always be food in the fridge and cupboards that you can help yourself from.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Please note - as your stay with us involves hanging with children, we have put some guidelines in place that we are happy to share with you before committing to your stay. If you have a police check from your home country and/or a current NZ police check, that would be a plus. We may also be asking for some references before having you stay. We hope you understand.

No parties, no drugs, no smoking, sorry. Otherwise we don't mind you having a beer or a glass of wine. And we don't mind you having fun exploring our area - and can give you lots of tips if you like. There's busses and a train station nearby and it takes about 15 minutes to get into Wellington City on the train.
We appreciate if you can help us keep the kids asleep in the evenings by keeping noise levels in the house down after 7 but who uses bluetooth speakers over headphones these days anyway, right?
