    Description

We are a multicultural blended family of 5 (and another baby arriving in June) who enjoy being active in the outdoors, touring with our campervan when time allows, being part of a very cool church community and traveling overseas.
Judith came to New Zealand from Germany as a cycling tourist 6 years ago, bumped into Kiwi Dave and here we are now... Our son Louis has just turned 1, and he adores his two older brothers Riley and Jack (13 + 11).
We moved to our current place in Lower Hutt a couple of years ago because we love the bush tracks here so much that we wanted to be close. There's several bush walks starting right next to our house.
Throughout our lives, both individually and together, we have done a lot of traveling and have enjoyed meeting locals and engaging with cultures rather than just being 'a tourist'. We have hosted many couchsurfers in the past (to be fair, that was before covid...), and would love to open our home again to people who are on their journey, and are willing to support us a bit in our busy lives... We look forward to hearing from you!!

Let's eat together! We love having people around for dinner and chatting away! Our kids can definitely help you improve your English, and you'd be more than welcome to go on some bush walks with us or mountain biking with Dave and the boys if you're interested! We can give you plenty of insider tipps for the Wellington region when it comes to walks and other cool outdoors places/activities.

***Update May 2025 - We are currently giving our outdoor projects a bit of a break as we're expecting another baby in June. You're still welcome to enquire about staying with us, however chances are high that we're too busy with housework and prepping for baby...***

We are currently giving our outdoor section a good make up. One task we would like to get done asap is the painting of our wooden decks. Well, if you're a carpenter we might actually think about replacing the rotting stairs that lead up to the deck, but let's start small ;-)
There's also some planting of veggies and fruit in the pipeline.
And finally, there's a drainage project which you may be able to help us with. This would be helping Dave to build a downpipe.
Other than that, our windows need cleaning (a job we never get around to doing) and we'd appreciate some support with normal housekeeping tasks like vacuuming, mopping floors, cleaning bathrooms etc.

We definitely wouldn't mind having some Germans who can help Dave and the kids speak more German!!! (Dave's been learning for the last 4.5 years and the boys are picking up as they hear us speaking to our little one...) Other languages are absolutely welcome too!

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

We have a guest room/office space which you will be able to use for yourself. There's also a bathroom in the laundry which will be mostly yours (except from Judith doing the washing...). If you'd rather stay in your own campervan, you can park it safely in our driveway with electricity and water supply.
We normally eat dinner together and you're more than welcome to join us if you're around at that time! Breakfast and lunches are basic in New Zealand, but there'll always be food in the fridge and cupboards that you can help yourself from.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

No parties, no drugs, no smoking, sorry. Otherwise we don't mind you having a beer or a glass of wine. And we don't mind you having fun exploring our area - and can give you lots of tips if you like. There's busses and a train station nearby and it takes about 15 minutes to get into Wellington City on the train.
We appreciate if you can help us keep the kids asleep in the evenings by keeping noise levels in the house down after 8 but who uses bluethooth speakers over headphones these days anyway, right?
