    Description

We are a family of three, living in two separate homes, in one of the most picturesque places on the south coast of Western Australia. We love nature, bushwalking, sunny days at the beach, practicing yoga, going to the gym and staying fit.

I live in a suburban home a couple of kms from the beach. It is an old 1970s brick home. I am slowly renovating the garden using permaculture principles and where I can afford to, am doing odd renovation jobs on the home. We eat a fair portion of our meals from the garden. I'd say I'm a novice but loving my progress. I have espaliered fruit trees and have a vege patch. I am aiming to put in a reed bed system, reticulation network, water tanks, and garden features over time. I also own a unit in a small ecovillage in the next town which requires participation in busy bees on a monthly basis.
My partner has a unit closer to the beach. He swims at the beach most days, year round. He is an avid water baby, e.g. swim, snorkel, dive, kayak, boat, fish....
Our daughter is just starting primary school and loves to sing, dance, play soccer, swim, and have a chat.

We are a busy, active family but make lots of time for family and friends. We eat a mix of vegetarian and meat meals. I can definitely cater for food restrictions, as long as you can help me out.

Ten years or so ago I was a couch surf host and traveller. I learnt about Workaway recently from my older daughter who joined while on holiday in Mexico.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

When we are not at work or doing projects around the house we are out and about in nature... at the beach, bushwalking or alternatively catching up with family and friends. We'd love you to fit in with our easy going Aussie lifestyle. I make my own sourdough most weeks which I can teach you how to make. I have just started learning how to dehydrate foods for hiking and also dabbling with fermenting and pickling. We can learn together.

    Accommodation

We can host you in our sleepout with its own toilet and shower. There is a queen bed and a storage cupboard. It will suite a couple or a single person. However if you are two single people travelling we can either put a mattress on the floor or put you on the fold out bed in another room. We will share meals in the main part of the house. We have a indoor cat who gets walks in the garden every day. He will want to sleep with you if you leave the door of your room open so be prepared!

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We are a half hour walk from the city centre and similar distance to the beach. There are electric scooters for hire throughout town. I have one bike that can be borrowed. Albany is hilly and electric bikes are very popular ;-)
There are so many things to do here. Hiking in local reserves. Mountain biking, Amazing beaches. Whale tours. Cultural tours. Wineries. Bars. Restaurants. Music and the Arts. There is a university in town which attracts local and international students. A great library and bookstore. There are multiple arts and music festivals, car rallies, mountain biking and other events in town throughout the year.
We are generally low key, spending time at home or in nature or with close friends and family. I love music of all sorts and our daughter loves to sing on her karaoke machine.
