This was our first Workaway experience as a family, and we are very grateful to Sara and her mother for welcoming us so warmly, especially with our little son. Sharing the olive harvest with them was a truly unique experience. The work was not hard, and it was incredibly rewarding to taste olive oil made from olives we had harvested just the day before. Our son was welcomed with open arms and happily helped with harvesting, climbing ladders and trees. It was a wonderful experience for him as well. Sara and her mother are very kind and welcoming people. The house is spacious and comfortable, the food was absolutely delicious, and we really enjoyed the conversations during meals and while working together. The only small downside was that Paternò (where the harvest takes place) is quite a dirty town, so walks around the area are not always the most pleasant. Thank you again for having us — we wish you all the best with your future plans!

I arrived last August and spent almost two and a half months there as a volunteer. Malte replied very quickly and welcomed me the next day, which I really appreciated. 😊 Most of the time I helped Stefan and Annamarie with renovating their house. I supported them with laying flooring, small electrical tasks, installing doors, and various other jobs around the house. They were flexible with both the working hours and the tasks. They also supported me very patiently with learning German. I really enjoyed the shared brunches, especially Annamarie’s homemade bread and the “thousand” different spreads. 😀 In my free time, I mainly studied the language and did a lot of slacklining. The area is quiet and very lovely, with the stream and the forest :)) Thanks again for everything 🙂

It's a bit far from the center, so you're not right in the middle of the chaos. While I was there, I did some weeding and some landscaping. They provide breakfast and lunch, simple but delicious, and often snacks too. I learned a lot about Bolivia from him; I'll miss walking his dogs, chatting with him, and doing market shopping.

Thank you Bruno and Luisa for letting me stay and help on your property. The quarters are adequate and all basic amenities are covered. You'll have to keep in mind that Cambutal is a remote town with little going on except surfing and fishing. Bruno is nice enough to let you use surfboards and fishing rods. I went during the fishing festival so I was able to eat the best tuna I've had in my life, fresh off the sea. The work itself was simple and rewarding and Bruno appreciates handymen for sure. My best wishes to your future projects !

Jacob stayed at our place for over a month. With his calm personality and interest in many topics, it was always nice to have him around and we had lots of good talks. He integrated quickly in our little community and supported us with many tasks in the garden, in the kitchen, around the house... He would carry out every task reliably and responsible, e.g. the bread making was his sole responsibility during his stay. Jacob is also a great musician and we enjoyed listening to him playing.

I had a great experience here. César, the manager, is a wonderful host and passionate surf teacher who truly goes out of his way to make you feel welcome from day one. A highlight was a surf trip to Chicama he organised for us, minibus, dinghy to the wave, and lunch at a local restaurant, all arranged through his network. It showed his dedication and strong local connections. The house is in the hills of Huanchaco (Las Lomas), about 10 minutes from the beach, peaceful and slightly away from the busy town life. The food (prepared by Cesar mum) is homemade and done with care, the shared meals are a nice moment to connect. Overall, a warm place with great surf vibes. Thanks Cesar and your family

Jana spent one month with us on our farm, and having her here was truly a wonderful experience. She is an incredibly versatile and thoughtful person with a very rich background in different areas of life and work. Her experience in business brought valuable insights, especially when it came to managing aspects of the touristic side of the farm. She has a very practical and observant way of looking at things, and her suggestions were both helpful and inspiring. At the same time, Jana has a deep background in spirituality and personal development, which created a very positive impact within our team. She was able to support not only the practical side of the work but also the human side — communication, understanding between people, and overall harmony in the workplace. She also shared yoga practices and classes that contributed to the overall wellbeing of the team. She is also very experienced with horses, which was a big plus for us. She helped with horse care and shared knowledge related to equine therapy and horse healing. Her approach with animals is calm, respectful, and intuitive. Beyond the specific tasks, Jana also shared valuable perspectives and advice on a personal level, almost like coaching at times. Her presence was enriching in many ways. We truly enjoyed having her here and we feel that our project improved thanks to her contribution. I would 100% recommend Jana to any host looking for a capable, thoughtful, and inspiring volunteer. Thank you, Jana — it was a pleasure to have you with us.

Michele is an excellent communicator and always responded to my messages in a timely manner. While he was at my house he not only shoveled snow and maintained my home, he helped the neighbours as well. He went on adventures with my cousins while he was there, and they all had nothing but nice things to say about him. He is fun, funny, responsible and eager to help. At one point there was severe cold weather and wind, and he followed directions perfectly to thaw some pipes. I highly recommend Michele as a workawayer.

Melode is a fantastic volunteer, very proactive. Together we built a new chicken coop for my hens and created a run around my fruit trees to incorporate some permaculture principles. She's a great companion, loves binge-watching series, and is a fantastic cook. Melode, thank you for your help! I hope you thoroughly enjoy the Galapagos and that your trip is an unforgettable experience!

I see I forgot to leave Yu Chen a feedback. She stayed with us for a week in summer 2025. It was short and I did not have a lot of interactions with her, but she was a pleasant guest who we hope had a good stay with us. All the best to her in all her future endeavors.

My time with Mayumi and her family was honestly one of the most meaningful experiences I’ve had while travelling. From the moment I arrived, I felt welcomed not as a volunteer, but as someone being invited into their home and daily life. It very quickly felt like I was part of the family. Spending time with their 6-year-old son and helping him with English never really felt like “work.” We mostly learned through playing, chatting, and doing fun activities together, and it was so special to see his personality and confidence grow over time. He is such a sweet, funny, and curious kid, and I feel really lucky that I got to be part of that stage of his life. What made this experience so special to me was how much Mayumi shared about everyday life in Japan. From meals together to conversations about culture, routines, and life in Japan, I felt like I got a glimpse of the country that you can’t really experience just by travelling through. Those small everyday moments ended up being some of my favourite memories. Mayumi is incredibly kind, thoughtful, and generous. She always made sure I was comfortable, included, and enjoying my time, and there was a really nice balance between helping out and having time to explore and enjoy the area. I left feeling so grateful for the experience and the connections we built. It’s one of those travel memories that will always stay with me, and I hope our paths cross again someday. Thank you so much!

I stayed for 4 weeks during February 2026 and it wasn't long enough. Sadly, work commitments beckoned. Pipsa and Miia (mother and daughter) are superb hostesses, guides and chefs. Not only are they generous and funny, but most importantly are open-minded and kind. They have met people from all over the world and their acceptance of other cultures reflects this. One thing that impressed me is how they strike a perfect balance between respecting personal boundaries and showing genuine interest. Miia's boys who are around most of the time (13 & 18) are also quite remarkable and I will miss their warm, educated approach to life. They always made me feel at home, away from home and invited me out to ski and hang out on various occasions. From my experience of working with children and young adults around the world, I found their social skills exemplary. Compliments too to Seppo who you'll soon get to know. His flexibility and humour were most memorable. Regarding work on the farm I learnt so much, so quickly and the system of passing knowledge down from them to volunteers, and then from volunteer to volunteer, worked extremely well. Whilst there is clearly work to be done, it never felt overwhelming or too much. If anything, at times I wanted to do more for them. Winter responsibilities for me ranged from loading/ordering wood and feeding the animals to preparing various equipment/facilities for use around the farm. Time flies there and it surprised me how easy it was to forget about the much faster-paced environments many may be accustomed to in urban places. I enjoyed helping Pipsa in the kitchen from time to time and refreshing the skills I learned during my early days working in hotels and restaurants. The lake, on which the farm is situated, is also magical in every sense and translates from the Sámi language roughly as 'female spirit'. Indeed there is a spirit and an adventure to be witnessed. Don't leave without an early morning lake dip in winter — it's more than revitalizing. Kiitos!!!

I spent 2.5 weeks with Mary during the winter, and it was a really wonderful experience. Mary is a very kind, hardworking woman with a very warm and welcoming personality. She also has a very lovely and well-behaved dog. During my stay, I helped with light chores throughout the day. There is always something you can learn from Mary, and the overall atmosphere was very pleasant and relaxed. We also had delicious dinners every evening, which we usually shared together. It was always nice to sit down and talk with her. She has experienced a lot in her life and can share many interesting things. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who enjoys being around horses and wants to spend a great time on a ranch. It was a truly enjoyable stay.

Tania was truly invaluable. Her arrival was unexpected, so I think there was a period of emotional adjustment. She was very good at opening up, and on a practical level, at making herself useful in everything I entrusted her with. A tireless worker, she often goes above and beyond what's asked because she's very serious and responsible. I really appreciated her company and her availability during an important and delicate time in her life. She disappointed me in just one thing: she didn't catch the mouse!! 😂😂 Good luck, Tania, you deserve it. God bless you.

Papo y Martu
