    Description

    Hi everyone!
We are Vera from the Czech Republic and Eduardo from Costa Rica. Together we take care of a beautiful and lively place, close to San Pedro de Poás, Alajuela – about 20 minutes from the San José airport and not far from the Poás volcano.

Our finca is a space of freedom, nature and creativity. People come here to reconnect with the land, breathe fresh mountain air, paddle on the lake, meet the animals and experience real Costa Rican countryside life. We love to share this space with travelers who enjoy simple living, teamwork and learning by doing.

Our finca is a mix of ecotourism, permaculture and sustainability, with a touch of modern ideas. We have horses, cows, chickens, fruit trees, vegetables, and gardens where we experiment with permaculture. There’s also a small hydro system and some renewable energy projects going on. Sometimes we are exploring things in the world of technology can live in balance with nature.

We are now welcoming two volunteers to help us with different things around the finca – taking care of animals, helping in the garden, planting, cleaning, small construction tasks, assisting with visitors or guests on weekends, or helping with photos or promotion online if that’s what you like. We usually work around 5 hours per day, 5 days a week, but we stay flexible depending on weather and what’s going on.

Accommodation is simple but nice – a small house with kitchen, bathroom and internet, in a safe area close to the farm and the town of Poás. You can cook your own food, rest, and enjoy the quiet countryside. Sometimes it’s peaceful, sometimes full of people, activities.

In your free time you can visit Poás Volcano, nearby waterfalls, local markets or just relax by the lake.

We love having people who are positive, open, and respectful toward nature and animals. Experience with farms or permaculture is nice but not necessary – enthusiasm and good heart are more important.

Our finca is not just a place, it’s a living project about balance between people, land and technology. We like to learn from others as much as we teach, and every person who comes here leaves a small part of their story.

There are around 10 full-time employees currently working on the farm with animals and tourism.

If you like simple life, nature, animals, and people – and you want to spend time helping and learning in a beautiful area – you’re welcome to join us.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Life at the finca is about connection — with nature, with people. We don’t just work here, we share time together too.

Volunteers can get involved with local life and help with little projects — planting trees, taking care of animals, helping with small events, or guiding visitors around the farm. There’s also a chance to explore the area: Poás Volcano, coffee farms, rivers, and the small villages nearby.

Most days are simple but full of meaning. We work side by side in joint projects. It’s easy to meet local people here — neighbours and young folks from Poás are friendly and open. Some like to practice English, some like to talk about daily life, and it’s nice to feel part of the community.

While you’re here, you can pick up things like:

Taking care of plants, gardens, and trees naturally

Caring for animals — feeding, cleaning, and learning their routines

Eco-tourism and hospitality — helping visitors enjoy Costa Rican nature and culture

Practical skills for simple, self-sufficient living

    Spanish

We love when volunteers bring their own skills or ideas. Maybe you know about gardening, building, sustainable design, tech, art, or community tasks. We’re happy to learn from you too.

One of the most special things about staying in Costa Rica is experiencing the Pura Vida way of life. It’s more than just a phrase — it’s a way of slowing down, noticing simple things, and enjoying each moment. A little more patience, calm, a smile for strangers, and the feeling that life doesn’t always have to be rushed. Living here, sharing meals, working with animals, walking in nature, and connecting with local people gives a taste of this lifestyle — something you can carry back home wherever you are.

  • Help

    Help

At the finca we like to have people who are down to earth and who enjoy being close to nature. People who don’t mind some physical work, who are happy outside, and who like to be part of a small team. If you enjoy taking care of animals, working in the garden, or helping with small projects, you’ll fit in well here.

We also welcome people who are curious about new things — maybe you like learning about renewable energy, or you’re into technology and want to see how it can work together with nature. There’s space for many types of energy and ideas here.

Most important for us is the attitude. We like people who are respectful, kind, and who can live simply. Life here is calm but active — we work, but sometimes we just rest and watch the sunset.

It’s also easy to connect with local people here — neighbours and young folks from Poás are friendly and open. Many of them like to practice English or just chat and share about their daily life, and it’s nice to feel part of the community.

You don’t need special experience. What helps most is that you come with a good heart, ready to give a hand and learn.
