Originally planned to volunteer for two weeks and ended up staying for a full month — that already says a lot. I really enjoyed this place and company of Boley, Teal and Django. I had the entire guest house by the river to myself, and the time there was incredibly calm, surrounded by nature. It felt very dreamy and peaceful. Just keep in mind the house is self-made, so it is very simple but feels authentic and cosy. When I arrived, they had just opened a forest school, and I volunteered teaching the kids, which was a beautiful experience. My days often started with a 5am surf, then teaching at the school. Riding the scooter through palm fields at sunrise to catch waves was absolutely magical. Boley is very friendly, flexible, and easygoing, and I felt relaxed and comfortable the whole time. He also helped me a lot with practical things around the island. I hope I can come back again!

Edwige and I, stayed over 3 weeks (in January) at Jamie and Hattie's place near Castalla, and overall, we feel happy and really enjoyed our time there. Our accommodation was "the annex", located on the northern side (therefore quite cold in winter and difficult to heat), basic for cooking but independent and with a lot of space. Fine for us. Hattie and Jamie had to go away in turns but there was always one of them on the place and always a good meal ready for us at lunch time, even when they were not there to share it. For the other meals, there was food stored for us in the annex when we arrived and for the last weeks, we were given money to buy our own fruit and veggies. Working time was from 8.30am till around 1.30pm, with a coffee/biscuits break in the morning. Since the place is big and there is much to do, the tasks were pretty varied, multiple, and related to our skills (then we did some roof and gutter fixing with rainwater collection system, build compost bins, sort out the existing heap of compost, pruning of olive trees, weeding, repair shutters, a gate, try to imagine how to solve technical problems ...) We definitely enjoyed starting the day caring for the horses all together. We are thankful our dog was welcome all time with us everywhere. The horses and cats were very friendly with her too. We just regret we didn't stay long enough to meet the newest doggy member Rocky ! On w-ends or afternoons, we enjoyed the surroundings with long walks, cycling and some nice hikes. Shopping in Castalla was easy and close. Most of the time, we worked together with Jamie or Hattie. We definitely had a lot of fun and laughter with them. They are friendly, easy going and have a very positive attitude. We wish them good luck with this huge project with so many things to think and reorganise, but "bit by bit or poco a poco" they will get there, even though sometimes it might take more than "10 minutes" !! ;-D

The few weeks with Chantal were amazing. She quickly became part of the family. She does not need any guidance, she sees something to sort out, she ask and do it. She helped us so much sorting things around, and putting order were it was much needed, which we really appreciate. Culture and knowledge sharing was also a key to Chantal's time with us. Thank you Chantal

Margaux volunteered with us for almost two months, and she was truly one of the brightest and most positive volunteers we have had.She is an incredibly friendly, open and warm person who quickly became part of our community. During her time here,Margaux was responsible, reliable and always ready to help. She built great relationships with both our teachers and students. Her presence brought great energy to the school, and people genuinely enjoyed being around her.

Hi Xiang Ge (Howard), Apologies for the late review! Thank you so much for hosting me in Melaka. This was my very first time volunteering at a hostel, and even though I was a beginner, you and the other volunteers were incredibly patient. Thanks to your guidance on the check-in and check-out procedures, I was able to get the hang of things very quickly. I’d like to express my sincere gratitude to Xiang Ge, Kono, Baya, Nella, Oualie, and Asunta. Thank you all for your help during my stay! I truly enjoyed connecting with people from all over the world. Exploring the sights and flavors of Melaka, learning to organize bike tours through the historic streets to watch the sunset at the Floating Mosque, and leading the group for Indian family dinners—these were all such fun experiences. Not to mention the vibrant Jonker Street night market and the Tuesday market! Most importantly, thank you, Xiang Ge, for taking me on a night ride through Melaka on your motorcycle. It would’ve been perfect if that orange bike hadn’t had issues, but no worries—at least I got to ride it for two days! I hope to visit Melaka again and look forward to catching up with you in the future. All the best!

My time with this family was one that I will cherish with me for years to come! I spent 10 days in their lovely home in Taichung and I am very grateful for their hospitality. While I was with them, they were incredibly sweet to me. Rita helped me plan my transit routes, cooked delicious meals, showed me around their town, and was incredibly kind. Gourd, their son, is very enthusiastic about his toys and is a fantastic English speaker! We would spend mornings drawing together at the kitchen table, and evenings running/dancing inside the gym. Alex drove Rita, Gourd, and I on multiple occasions to visit local night markets so that I could experience local dishes and was so excited to share his favourite foods with me. Each of them will hold a special place in my heart. I feel so lucky that my last days in Taiwan were spent with Rita Alex, and Gourd, and I cannot recommend them enough :)

We had such a lovely time with Giada and Sam. They were excellent guests, very clean and tidy, and they were so generous sharing their Italian culture. They are really good cooks, so we made fresh pasta and muffins, they also did some repairs and general house cleaning. Highly recommended :)

Michael and Liz are a great couple. During their stay they helped to prepare wood panels and build a whole outdoor area with a platform and a chair for our glamping area. They have skills in many areas and communication was always clear and respectful. Besides they are an easy going couple and we had many interesting conversations. Highly recommended. All the best for your journey

Sue and Tom and Nila and Eli are simply best. We felt so loved and welcomed into their family. We connected so well, and we miss them very much. Tom and Sue are incredibly inviting and thoughtful. and so much fun! We have now done ~8 workaways, and this one is one of our favorites and most memorable. With them we worked on several construction projects and yard work. usually we started in the mornings and stopped at lunchtimes. they live right on the Nuble river, which is so great to relax in and swim. also got to go kayaking! They had great bikes we could use to get around easily. there are many great hikes in the area! we were especially impressed with the incredible food. everything is fresh, and tom and sue take a lot of time to curate the best ingredients. They make their own kombucha, sour dough bread, yogurt, cheese and granola! they taught us so much, and we got to make this with them. we even have our own scobi to make our own kombucha on the road. every lunch was incredible (in Chile lunch is the main meal) such a great fusion of chillean/israeli dishes. we had ingredients for fresh breakfasts on our own, and dinners we usually had leftovers. we even got to go to several asados (BBQs) which were so delicious. we truly loved this experience. Tom and sue and Nila and Eli are all SO WONDEFUL

Eina is a very sociable girl, strong yet sensitive, full of qualities and thoughtful details. I feel that I really enjoy helping out and learning on the farm, planting, making compost, working with the horses, enjoying the food, the beach, watching the sunsets, and above all, sharing interesting conversations with her. Her way of helping others always comes from the heart. We rode horses between the mountains, the village, and the beach. for her, who had never ridden before, I think it was a beautiful experience, as was trusting Alarik and his energy. She is wonderful inside and out, and I know that life will lead her to good people and new adventures. Perhaps time will bring her back, and she will be able to rest under a tree that she planted.

Baptiste e Ismael

Already at the train station, I knew this would be a wonderful time. Marina gave me a warm welcome, and I instantly felt comfortable. The horses are so lovely and beautiful, but also good and honest teachers—just like Marina. I learned everything really quickly, and Marina and I knew we could count on each other. Last but not least, the six weeks I spent here were really helpful for me, and I’m glad that I met Marina, her lovely and funny family, and the horses. Thank you for this amazing experience!

My friend and I loved staying at Maria's home this January; two weeks was not long enough. Immediately, I fell in love with her quirky home in the village, as well as her sweet dogs and cat. Maria and Heather were not only welcoming and hospitable, but they were so generous, too. We ate very well the whole time and always felt comfortable to move about the house as we pleased. Maria's passion and excitement for her home was infectious, and even when we were struggling to accomplish something, she never failed to lift our spirits. We were able to build three different sets of shelves and cupboards using repurposed shutters, drawers, and salvaged lumber, as well as completing a few other odd jobs around the house. There were lots of materials and tools we were able to use, which was a good thing because we were constantly needing to re-evaluate and change directions when we would hit a wall. I cannot possibly convey how special this experience was, only that I cannot recommend it enough if you are considering it. Maria has cultivated a beautiful community in the little village on the mountain. I will miss the view from her porch, waking up to the sound of rain on the roof, playing Rummikub with her friends, and listening to the laughter that filled the kitchen at dinner time. I hope to be back some day and wish only the best for Maria and her Kalamata family.
