Where to begin. This place is by far my favourite Workaway experience. I only left a few days ago, but I already feel like I have to come back again. The day I arrived happened to be the same day another volunteer did, so we got to spend the time I was there together. It was really nice because it made it so easy to go out and do things, but finding social connections was never a problem anyway, everyone was so open and welcoming. Almost every day there were conversation classes, where the main goal was simply to chat in English and get to know people. It was definitely the best job I’ve had so far! On my days off, I would actually miss class. Sometimes I would also give presentations about my country, both in English and, for the beginner classes, even in Spanish. In the cafe, everyone is encouraged to speak English, but in our free time we often went out with people from the classes, which gave us the chance to improve our Spanish as well. We were shown around the town, taken to different restaurants, watched various football matches together, and overall it was an incredibly social experience. The work is super easy, and Miguel is very flexible with the schedule if you want to plan an activity for the day. They even organised a welcome night for us and brought traditional snacks from the region. I made so many friends here that I still talk to every day, and we’re already planning to meet up again. As for the food, there is a kitchen with the basic amenities where I usually cooked simple meals. More often though, I would go into the centre for a very reasonably priced Menu del Dia or get arepas from the amazing arepa place just around the corner. The location is ideal, close to everything and it feels very safe. Popayan is a beautiful, calm town without much tourism, so you really get the chance to feel like a local. There are also some great day trips you can do in the surrounding area. I really cannot recommend this place highly enough. If you have the opportunity to volunteer here, do it, you won’t regret it. A special thanks to Alfredo and Miguel, but also to everyone working at the cafe and all the students who came to the classes. I will be back! This was my first Workaway and I absolutely loved it! The hostel has such a social vibe and attracts some lovely people - I had so much fun and made genuine friends who I’m still in contact with and will visit :) Mostar is a dream and I have not shut up about how beautiful Bosnia is to anyone who will listen! The work at Taso’s house is incredibly easy, it gave me plenty of time to read my book in the sun whilst waiting for check ins, do some crochet, and mostly get distracted from my hobbies by chatting to the guests. Taso and Edita were fair bosses and great to chat to, incredibly sweet and genuine people. And very funny :) I can’t thank them enough for my time here, it is so treasured. For me one of the best months ever🫶🏻 Thank you

Max es un voluntario con muchas habilidades, es como una cajita sorpresa que sabe de todo, además de ser muy simpático y colabora en todo. No tengo nada malo que decir de el, fue tan buena nuestra experiencia con el que pasó algunas semanas con nosotros, se fue y lo volvimos a recibir por algunas semanas más. Lo recomiendo mucho ya que puede ayudar en lo que sea.

I am happy to give some feedback on our latest workawayer, Alba. She came to us after meeting a previous guest, who recommended us to her, and her to us. She reached out and we are so happy that she did. Alba stayed with us for a month and easily fit into our lives. She is a quiet, calm force and was lovely to have around. She happily shared her life stories, as did we and we taught her how to play Cribbage, Sequence, and introduced her to some fabulous Canadian music. Alba was very helpful around our property and took on any task requested of her. She likes to finish a job to feel that special satisfaction that one gets for a job well done. She also really bonded with our chocolate lab, Coco, who is a hit with all of our workawayers. She plays guitar, quite well, and that was a nice energy to bring here too. Alba is mature beyond her years, is easy to spend time with, and she loves to laugh. What could be bettet? We will miss her. See you next time, Alba!

The guys showed nothing but the best side of themselves, working hard and meticulously, showing initiative in everything, and causing no trouble around the house. We are always happy to see you again. Good luck on your journey!

I would like to express my sincere thanks to Carlo. He is a very cheerful and helpful individual who always goes above and beyond. From teaching English to the children with his kindness to taking on various other tasks, he approached everything with a warm smile and a positive attitude, never complaining once. Una hermosa experiencia! Daniel y Tamara son personas maravillosas que destacan por su hospitalidad y preocupación. Aprendí mucho sobre bio construcción, cerámicas y la cultura de la zona, que cabe destacar que es un lugar tranquilo y agradable, para quienes disfrutan de la naturaleza!🤍🏔

Nice experience with Joo who's the sweetest person to welcome you alongside the whole team. location is dreamy and work is really easy and enjoyable!

I spent the sweetest week ever with Albert, René and Wilber. They welcomed me with open arms and were so eager to make me discover their life, village and activities around. I can only recommend to go and support them in growing this peaceful realm. Thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤️

We're very happy that we had the opportinity to come on short notice to karlas farm. Shes super friendly and helpful and makes sure you have everything you need!:) We were working in the vegetable garden or in the little blueberry orchard, stacking wood,... every day was different and not like too demanding or anything. We had a lovely accomodation in the forest and the little creek just a few meters down the hill got us well refreshed on warm days:) also there is a bigger river close by with nice spots. We appreciated the bikes that are there for using too. I guess staying at karlas is like a perfect volunteering experience:)

Durante el tiempo que compartieron con nosotros demostraron ser personas responsables, respetuosas, trabajadoras, comprometidas y siempre dispuestas a aprender y a colaborar. Su calidad humana, amabilidad y dedicación dejaron una huella muy especial en nuestra familia. Gracias por todo el trabajo realizado y por el valioso intercambio de experiencias. Fue un verdadero privilegio conocerlos y compartir este tiempo juntos. Les deseamos muchos éxitos en cada proyecto que emprendan. Que Dios los bendiga y los acompañe siempre. Baylee was a delight to have here with us, and she was a great worker. We appreciated her willingness to take on any assigned task and she was great about asking questions to be sure she understood. We shared good conversation, and game time, and we would gladly welcome her back.

Ha Ha .. if this brilliant young bubble of JoY breezes past your world, grab the opportunity of sharing space, conversation, industry and completing tasks. I Am so delighted to have shared only a few days with Helena, so glad she was so enthusiastic about coming to the Blue Mountains. Helena crammed exploration into every day and still managed to help me in the garden. Helena loves being in nature, is super fit, grounded, strong, capable and not afraid of any task. Incredible company. You'll be glad you invited her into your home. I am going to miss this whirlwind.

Legend. Too bad she refused my full time contract 😅 Mai is a gem. The only problem with Mai is that she doesn't stay, she ends up leaving... She is a true artist ! She worked with us for a little over a month and the amount of help she gave and the quality of the work she produced was simply the best we've had in 11 years running our Hostel. Not only is she genuinely talented with a paint brush in her hand (she took care of all the signs of the hostel and remade them all from scratch with her own style), she is also an amazing human being. Always available, really fun to talk to, she is just a joy to be around. And don't get me started on her cooking skills... We received enough feedbacks from our guests about her, for me to confidently say that she cannot be anything else but an asset for any business. If you are hesitating between Mai and another volunteer, please read the other feedbacks about her, I concur... Not all volunteers are created equal, and Mai plays in the Champions's League. You will always have a home away from home here and you will always be welcome back with open arms, thank you for everything that you've done and I wish you the most beautiful adventures ahead ! Maria Francesca was a fabulously interesting person to host. We shared really interesting chats about life, politics and whatever else came to mind. The weather was pretty good so she was able to get out and about to enjoy the irish countryside. I even convinced her to walk the old Kenmare Road which was a bit of a challenge as it was roasting the day she headed off. She was a great asset in the garden as it turns out there are lots of common plants (and weeds) no matter where you live. Even though it wasn’t the most exciting job in the world, she jumped right in and helped me dig vast quantities of ragworth which seemed to spring out of the ground when I had my back turned!! The place was definitely spruced up with all her hard work in the fields. She immediately took responsibility for my wayward hens whose sole goal in life is to escape from their enclosure. They are a hard bunch to get to cooperate!! I’m definitely delighted I was able to meet Francesca as she is an incredibly interesting person and would love to see her again.

It was a real pleasure hosting Emilie for two weeks. I can honestly say she is a lovely young woman who is amazing to be around as she exudes positivity, calm and has a can do attitude. She did an amazing job weeding, painting and tidying the place. No matter what I asked her to do she completed it to the highest possible standard. She was delighted when I asked her to help me make a gate for your yard and she handled the sander like a pro. I definitely recommend her and would welcome her back in the morning!

Andrea welcomed me into her home in beautiful Malahide. The area is tranquil yet diverse with complementary tones of boutiques, independent cafes and the long stretch of beuatiful Coastline and Harbour. Andrea is the best person, in fact I have adopted her as my sister. It takes a very special soul to open both their home & their hearts. I would highly recommend a stay with Andrea if you are seeking to experience a culture of compassion, kindness, spirituality and a deeper sense of belonging.

Antonin was a lovely house guest, very good English, polite and hardworking. Looked after his accommodation space, and helped me in the flower farm with weeding and topping up garden beds with soil. Was lovely to host, we also enjoyed spending time at dinners playing cards and his homemade Pesto and Tapenade!
