What a splendid time we had at Damien’s – so much so that we extended for a third week with him. Lorinna and the surrounding region have spectacular nature, but the farm itself is just beautiful: full of native trees and huge ferns, teeming with all sorts of birds, and home to wallabies, pademelons, and possums, among other creatures. Our routine was very pleasant: we had an early start in the fields, followed by mid-morning breakfast, and we continued working until lunch time; the afternoons were all ours to chill or explore. Although there was a lot of weeding to do in the carrot patch (we dubbed our campaign “The Amaranth Wars” – which we actually enjoyed!), Damien always tried to give us a variety of tasks to keep us entertained, and we also ended up brush cutting, splitting wood, planting veggies, mulching, installing an irrigation system for the potatoes, and even helping drench his flock of sheep, which was very interesting. In our free time we enjoyed exploring the huge property, going to the lake nearby, doing some hiking, or just relaxing in one of the nicest accommodations you can find on WorkAway :) Damien was a fantastic host. Thoughtful, genuinely curious about our backgrounds, generous with his knowledge and with his space (what a marvellous home he built, we absolutely loved cooking in his kitchen!), and caring for our wellbeing at all times. He is an intelligent man with a very interesting life story, a good sense of humour, and great cooking skills – because he’s also a modest person, he won’t agree to this, but it’s all true. The day usually ended with a shared dinner, and we enjoyed many good conversations and nice meals together, for which we are grateful. One night, Damien hosted a delicious potluck dinner with family and friends, and another day he took us to a great gathering with other WorkAwayers, organised by one of the other very cool hosts in the area (Arana & Nick – thanks guys!). We also enjoyed spending some time with Damien’s daughter and family, who were super kind and friendly to us- they even took us on an amazing hike to the Cradle Mountain National Park, one of the most beautiful natural sites we got to experience during our time in Australia. Willow the black Kelpie was a great addition to the team, and it was very cool to see the trusting relationship between her and Damien. We can only recommend staying at Damien’s to anyone enjoying proper farm work, good food, off-grid living, and authentic cultural exchange. Thanks Damien, we’ll wait for you in Europe whenever you take the trip!

April was only with me for a few day while I attended a couple of dog shows. In that time she looked after the dogs extremely well. I would recommend her to anyone and hopes April comes back to visit. I can not fault her. Thanks April

We had a really pleasant stay here and truly enjoyed our time. the environment felt comfortable and easy to live in. The house is very well-equipped and has everything you might need, especially the kitchen, which had plenty of ingredients and tools, making cooking both simple and enjoyable. overall, we felt very comfortable in daily life. We also had the chance to be involved in many different activities during our stay. We cooked a lot together, and sharing meals was one of the most enjoyable parts of our time there. We helped with cleaning and daily tasks, and we also learned many new practical skills. As complete beginners, we even got an introduction to welding, which was very exciting for us. We participated in painting, gardening, and various construction tasks like shoveling, building stairs, working with cement, and filtering sand. We also helped in making and maintaining the garden, cleaning the attics, and lighting the stove every day with wood. One of the highlights for us was learning how to bake bread from Elham, which we truly enjoyed and will always remember. The host is not very social, but for us, this created a calm and relaxed environment where everyone could enjoy their own rhythm. Overall, we had a great experience and It was hard saying goodbye specially to the cats and the best dog in the world, Popoke. We are grateful for the time we spent here. Thank you for hosting us!

Alberto & Florencia are an absolutely lovely, sympathetic couple. They bring so much warmth and positive energy wherever they go — it was infectious! We felt genuinely happy to have them as guests on our farm; they were respectful, kind, and a real joy to host. We’d love nothing more than to welcome them back anytime. Hope to see you again soon!

Aisie was wonderful to host! She is friendly, has a great personality and was willing to lend a hand in any activities that were happening at the farm. She was busy watering and planting trees, weeding and tending to the garden among many other things. Her contribution was much appreciated and would definitely recommend her to anyone looking for help :)

Kenny stayed with us for two weeks, and we thoroughly enjoyed our time together. He possesses a wealth of skills, experiences, and stories to tell—and it’s even better when he shares them accompanied by his guitar. He is a responsible individual who strives to do things right; he is willing to help with the needs of the homestead and shows great enthusiasm for learning new things. He assisted us with various projects on the homestead , including construction using cob and other natural building techniques, animal care, painting a door, and repairing our old car. My two daughters got along wonderfully with him; he was patient, respectful, and fun with the girls. Before leaving, he left the space where he was staying very clean and tidy for the next Workaway. We are confident that he would be a positive presence in any situation or setting. He is very in tune with the earth and his environment. With gratitude

My time here was truly something special. Jane was a wonderful host—warm, welcoming, and genuinely thoughtful, always making sure everything felt comfortable and easy. The facilities were great, and the accommodation was cosy, creating a real home-away-from-home feeling from the moment I arrived. And then there’s Charlie, Pixie, and Ruby… you simply can’t help but fall in love with them. They bring so much personality, joy, and heart to the whole experience. This Workaway is more than just a place to stay—it’s a place you feel part of. I leave with a full heart and very fond memories. Highly recommended to anyone looking for something meaningful and memorable.

I had a great one week stay at the farm! Eric and Ezgi were very welcoming and laid back. I was the only volunteer at the time, so I had the bedroom, bathroom and kitchen space to myself. I loved spending time with the animals and the gardeners each day. The working hours are very fair and with plenty of guidance from the gardeners, David and Michael. Eric and Ezgi took me into town on my first day off which was really nice, to do some grocery shopping. I recommend if you appreciate the quiet farm life!

My partner Seb and I had the best possible experience with Elspeth and Kim back in Feb, we couldn't have asked for better hosts! The living situation was cosy and comfortable, the food (especially what was grown in the garden) was plentiful and delicious, the work was always accommodating and we learnt lots along the way. Elspeth and Kim are very kind lovely people and we 100% recommend this Workaway to anyone looking for a peaceful, beautiful time. Thank you Elspeth & Kim!

Although Bertrand stayed with me for less than two weeks, I could quickly see how diligent and experienced he is in various types of work. We worked together on laying weed mats and doing cement work, and it was clear he had the kind of know-how that only comes from real experience. It was both comfortable and enjoyable to work by his side. Beyond joining my Kouksundo classes, he maintained his own morning exercise routine to stay fit. With his wealth of practical skills and great attitude, he will be a wonderful asset to any host.

Lahcen Bounda has a bright, cheerful personality and a real passion for exploring new cultures. I could truly feel that he was doing his absolute best to help me in every way. With his background and skills as an engineer, he was a huge help in renovating my Kouksundo (traditional Korean mind-body training) studio and maintaining my father’s house. I highly recommend him!

What a great guest and helper Elizabeth has been! Apart from being a super chill person she is also very proactive and independent. She knew exactly what needed to be done in the garden or in the house without me even telling her, which I really appreciated because she came at a particular busy period for me. She also knew how to keep herself entertained during times off, went on many hikes and read a lot of books. Last but not least she is a creative cook who showed me you can make a tasty and healthy meal with whatever is available. We also had interesting conversations over dinner (her Spanish is awesome) and she really made the place feel more like a home by improving illumination, etc. I’m very thankful for all her help and friendly, cooperative attitude, and I wish her all the best in her future adventures!

Jerome and Aurelia were amazing guests, they brought the vibes and fun, music and chill conversations. They worked hard on the task and finished it quickly and to a high standard. Thanks so much and happy travels!! Maybe I will come to workaway with you one day 😁

Has been a nice week at Mike's! Mike welcomed me easily even if I contacted him close to my arrival. He's gentle funny and knows a lot of things, so it's been a great chance to know about new Zealand and its environment. The tasks were well explained and I enjoyed working also because of the other volunteers there. Can't forget Mike is a great cook and enjoying his homemade meals was the evening highlight! Thank you Mike for everything!

Dear Caterina, Having you with our family and at our school has been a truly beautiful and memorable experience for all of us. From the very beginning, your dedication, sincerity, and the genuine love you showed towards the children were so evident. You brought such a calm, positive, and caring energy, and it made a big difference in the way the children felt and learned around you. The kids absolutely adored you. The way you connected with them, understood their little emotions, and made them feel comfortable and happy was really special. It’s not something everyone can do so naturally, but you did it with so much ease and warmth. We are especially grateful for all the effort and patience you put into teaching skating to my younger daughter. You didn’t just teach her a skill—you gave her confidence, encouragement, and joy. She looked forward to every moment with you. The bond she formed with you was so strong that when you left, she was truly heartbroken and even cried. As a parent, that says so much about the love and trust you built with her. Thank you for being so responsible, kind, and committed throughout your time here. You went beyond just volunteering—you became a part of our daily lives and left behind so many happy memories for the children. We feel very grateful to have had you with us, even if it was for a short time. You will always be remembered with so much warmth and appreciation in our home and at the school. Wishing you all the happiness and success in everything you do. Please do stay in touch—you will always have a place here with us. With heartfelt thanks and lots of love, Raina and Aslam

We had the most wonderful and memorable time in the chakra's of Tinco. For 2,5 weeks we were surrounded by so much warmth and enthusiasm from Dionny and her children Alan and Dionny. We had the most fun during the work in the Choclo fields. Dionny leading by example and distributing satisfying tasks for our team of volunteers. The rhythm of days really allowed us to get to know one another and become involved with each other. As a host they were very flexible, caring and accompanying. On top, the opportunity to meet Dionny as a person was the greatest blessing. We shared so many enjoyable moments with her, and together with the team of affectionate volunteers. Meals were special, by means of structural moments of coming together. They were also prepared together, lead by master chef Dionny, so that we were able to learn and master some delicious Peruvian recipes. Some trips in the area, to Carhuaz or the beautiful mountains, ensured moments of cultural exchange and enjoying the nature in the region. And we should not forget to mention the most flamboyante mascota, Valentina. What a delight. All in all were have been very grateful to have called Dionny's house our home for 2,5 weeks. Muchas gracias para todo, y hasta luego...
