Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Travellers will find themselves immersed in a typical Kenyan rural setting surrounded by different settlements, small farms and villages that belong to the local communities. Sessions can be arranged with the local residents to educate them about the importance of preserving the environment. In exchange, you can learn more about their culture and way of life and the more adventurous can even sample some local cuisine!
Projects involving children
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
Help
We need volunteers who are passionate about promoting a greener environment and willing to help us plant as many trees as possible! Activities include digging holes for the trees, applying manure or fertiliser, watering the growing trees and getting rid of weeds. However, if you arrive during the dry season because of water shortages planting trees may not be possible and activities will be focused more on periodically watering the existing young trees, weeding and digging holes in preparation for planting in the next rainy season. We also keep chicken and have a small kitchen garden and other construction projects around the farm so we are also open to other forms of help around the farm.

What else ...
A few minutes walk from the farm is a lush river surrounded by natural forest where different wildlife can sometimes be spotted: monkeys, baboons and many different species of birds. The Mount Kenya Forest is also a walking distance away and is a great place to hike and if lucky there are chances of spotting some elephants and buffalo.
We can also arrange hikes to the neighbouring Mt Kenya and other nearby hiking areas as well as visits to the surrounding game reserves and conservancies that are home to a wide array of animal species !A little more information

The farm in question belongs to Eric and his mother. However, Eric doesn't live at the farm but in Nanyuki, a few minutes away by car, but there is a third very nice person who was in charge of welcoming the workawayers. In the end, I didn't stay at the farm, because I had a study job to do in Nanyuki. I stayed in Eric's apartment for a few… read more
