Description
Hello, we're Aisie and Sarah! We are traveling the world for three years. We both worked at a school for the Blind and multiply impaired for the last six years. We have a background in community work, accessibility, language exchange, child care, art therapies, and outdoor activities. For the last year, we have been traveling in Latin America and Eastern Europe. We are currently in Africa.

We have both done several workaways involving hospitality, animal care, and community work. Sarah worked as an English as a Second Language teacher in Thailand, Latin America and virtually for children in China for seven years. She has also been a certified yoga teacher for eight years. Aisie has done workaways at an animal shelter, hostel, English school and hotel for landscaping. She is also in graduate school to become a teacher of the visually impaired. We are both passionate about childcare and education.

We are self-motivated individuals that are excited to learn and support a variety of causes that match our skill sets and interests. We are fast learners that can learn on the job for experiences that are new to us.

We are active, hard workers! We are motivated to learn more about different skills and disciplines to do a variety of workaways.

I had the best time at the academy! Harim was an amazing host. This was my favorite workaway I have done by far. You will fall in love with Morocco and Casablanca.

THE WORK:
Amazing schedule. You work three short evening shifts and longer day shifts Saturday and Sunday. you get to see many of the same students each week which is great. You can… read more see their English improve and develop nice connections over the weeks. The students teach you so much about Moroccan culture and recommend things to do in the city. I also loved the schedule for going on trips with other volunteers. The downtown school is less than five minutes from the apartment as well- dream commute! You are typically paired with 1-5 students for 15-30 minutes to chat and then swap groups. Sometimes they have speaking prompts and other times you make it up as you go. It’s helpful to come up with some questions to get things flowing (“what’s your favorite Moroccan food vs. international food? Etc.). The teachers tell you their levels and what they’re working on which is super helpful too.

THE APARTMENT:
I loved the apartment so much. There is so much life in it with all of the volunteers and teachers leaving here. There are two volunteer dorms and two teacher rooms. Including teachers, you are sharing the living room, two bathrooms, kitchen and outside area with 5-9 people. It sounds tight but it flows very nicely. Just pack earplugs-the walls are thin! The teachers are so sweet, Samira taught us to cook some Moroccan foods while I was here. Shayma, the cook, is at the house four times a week and cooks lunch thur-sat. She is a sweetheart and great cook!! Also- the WiFi is extremely good if you are a student or work remotely. This was a huge plus for me. From the apartment- you’re a 15 minute walk to the main souk or 40 minutes to the Hasan Mosque. The city is very walkable and enjoyable. You don’t see many tourists in winter, so be prepared to be greeted everywhere you go :)

THE TRIPS:
So worth it to bond with your roomies and meet volunteers from the other schools! A great price for what you get to do. I recommend doing one at the start of your time to be able to connect with the other schools for the rest of your time. In my last week, we organized an international Friendsgiving which was super fun.

THE HOST:

We had a great experience in Dahab at the mushroom farm! Hatem made us feel comfortable and at home from the second we arrived. Our workload was light since it was the start of the season, but we learned about mushroom inoculation and did several landscaping projects.
