    Description

We are nature and animal lovers who are are creating a space of peace and tranquillity. The converted barn where you will be living is part of the larger domain at the centre of which is our 16th century chateau which we are slowly renovating. Biodiversity and regenerative, organic approaches to growing and living are very important to us. All the renovations we have undertaken are done with that in mind, all paints are eco paints and we have some solar panels for water in the houses. We are trying to grow much of our own vegetables and many medicinal plants that we use. We also encourage wild plants and forage for medicinal plants and food. We have about 10 different varieties of plums on the domain that we have discovered so far which is very exciting- they all taste different! With us lives Pip the Schnoodle and 5 very friendly miniature sheep, who get very excited to see us as they love getting carrots and other goodies.

You will also learn about medicinal plants, how to use them and how to process them best. You will learn about some vegetable growing and food processing. I am a passionate plant based cook and make a lot of fermented vegetables, sprouts etc. We have a very cute dog who is the best therapy in itself. We speak English, German, basic French.

  • Help

    Help

We are looking for some nature loving people who can help us with some help around the gardens, the medicinal herb garden, the orchard and the woods. We are also looking for help with simple projects around the house and some small DIY projects. We have a lot of medicinal plants and would welcome any herbal medicine enthusiasts who wants to learn how to make infused oils, tinctures, creams etc.

    Accommodation

You will have your own bedroom and own bathroom in the barn conversion, the same house where we live but there is a lot of privacy as its at the other end of the house with a door leading to the manor courtyard with some of the medicinal herb beds. The barn is in the middle of our 17 acre domain. At the heart of the domain is a fortified 16th century manor (currently not habitable by humans ;-). Bedat is classified as a nature reserve and we have a diversity of birds and butterflies all around us. There are lots of trails through the old garden, fields and woodlands which we hope you will get a chance to enjoy.

We are food lovers, Susi teaches a lot of cooking classes and advises patients on healthy eating and this is reflected in our meals. 3 delicious plant based and organic meals will be provided daily which we normally have together on the terrace or in the courtyard as soon as weather permits.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We envisage for you to help us for about 4 -5 hours a day and all meals are provided. All meals will be plant based and organic. We are very passionate about being plant based so we would ask you not to bring any animal products on the premises and instead enjoy getting to know alternative ways of eating while you are here.

There is a lot to do around here. The Dordogne river is nearby to go Canoeing, scenic walks and lots of pretty little villages and many chateaus! Saint Emilion is only a 15 minute drive where you can enjoy some of the best wines in the region. We have some great tips for wine tastings, especially if you are interested in organic wine, in and around the area. There are many other interesting sights within 20 mins drive such as the Roman ruin at Montcarret, the Tower of Michel de Montaigne, the Jardins de Sardy. Bordeaux is a 45 mins drive and there are trains from Saint Emilion station into Bordeaux which takes 30 mins.
