I spent one month with this fantastic people. It was my first Workaway experience so I couldn't have picked better. I had everything I needed, the conditions were fantastic, my tasks were easy as well. I had a lot of free time to explore and enjoying. I'm really grateful and I wish you all the best!!

I had a lovely experience at Nadege and Olivier's place. I stayed for about a week and I worked for 4 hours a day, mainly cleaning the airbnb and distributing flyers for Nadege's massage festival. They were amazing at making sure I had enough breaks and didn't work too much. The family were very very kind and helped me with my French so much! They took me to 2 parties during my stay and the French immersion really improved my understanding of the french culture and language. I would recommend this place to independent people if you are solo travelling and ask to use the bikes if you don't have a car! Nadege and Olivier are extremely generous and Mila is very sweet. Thank you!

I had an amazing four days here! Anna and David are lovely welcoming hosts, kind and caring people. I loved their home, the goats and the chickens. Anna and I spent a day together where she taught me to cook Ugali and make makote roofs. The time was split between a place close by where Reiner, Chai and their friend Ali are building an eco chicken farm, and beginning to test lots of sustainable technologies such as an earth bag water tower and re-using waste as fuel. I helped with cleaning the chicken house, building a shelter for the toilet and some water tower design. Overall it feels progressive and and very exciting for a cooperative community farm with an aim to support the wider local community. Reiner, Chai and Ali were great company, relaxed and down to earth with lots of passion for the project. Looking forward to visiting again in the future!

We had noe and malte to stay for two weeks and we were blown away with how hard they worked! They are a lovely couple and an absolute pleasure to have! They just got on with tasks and also took initiative to do things, which was a huge relief for us. So friendly, really nice and we really hope they come back one day!

Vince volunteered at our finca in Tenerife for a month, and we cannot thank him enough for the progress we made under his guidance. He provided daily sessions that were perfectly tailored to our individual needs. From helping with chronic joint pain (knees, hips, and shoulders) and avoiding the need for surgery, to building a long-term longevity and strength program, Vince’s "hybrid" approach of physiotherapy and functional training is world-class. He doesn't just "train" you; he teaches you how to understand your own body. He is calm, motivating, and incredibly knowledgeable. If you are looking for a volunteer who is professional, reliable, and brings a high-level skill set to your project, Vince is your guy!

Jai Swaminarayan! I spent almost 2 months volunteering as a nurse with the medical team and teaching English at the school. My time here has been wonderfully varied and full of learning, community and spirituality. Every single person has been so generous and welcoming and I really feel like part of the family, Volunteering with the Hospital at Your Door service has given invalauble insight into the health challenges, perceptions and beliefs of the local people of Gujarat, broadening my perspective and understanding of healthcare and nursing practices. Whilst I sometimes found it challenging to find ways of making meaningful contributions to the medical team, I ended up focusing my efforts on sharing my experience and practices with the team, teaching core clinical skills and encouraging a culture of continuous learning and development. With the learning I took from the medical team I also tried to develop health and wellbeing lessons to teach the children at the school. I also spent time at the Bhakti Sevashram running exercise classes at the care home. The swaminarayan organisation is a living example of how faith and spirituality is expressed through action, through compassion, and through selfless service. The integration of spirituality, education, healthcare and social service creates such a powerful, unified community. This has been an incredibly rewarding experience and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity. Thank you to all the staff, students, teachers, medical team, swamis and volunteer coordinators for all your care, support and encouragement.

From the very beginning, you came with such a beautiful spirit , always charming, happy, open minded, and ready to help wherever help was needed. Your positive energy was felt by everyone: our family, the children, the teachers, and the other volunteers. You didn’t just stay with us; you truly became part of our family. We especially want to thank you for your support of the school. Your effort and initiative to help raise money for the primary school meant so much to us and will have a lasting impact on the children’s education. That kind of care and responsibility shows the size of your heart, and we will never forget it. Mama D., the children, and everyone here miss you already ,including Niko 😊. We are very proud of the memories we shared, the laughter, the learning, and the cultural exchange that made this experience special for all of us..Karibu sana You will always have a home here in Arusha, and we truly believe this is not a goodbye but a “see you again.” Thank you for trusting us, for giving so much of yourself, and for becoming part of our story. Karibu tena — you are always welcome back.

My review is about the hosts, what you do during the experience, and who I think this experience is suitable for. The hosts are true gentlemen. They will make you feel comfortable (and they will definitely pamper you), and since they are very worldly people, you can talk to them about anything. They are both excellent French teachers, and the food is amazing. They also have two very friendly and lovely little dogs. You will be given some tasks to do; in my case, I had to collect walnuts and dig a trench to install the internet cable (I stayed only two weeks). You will mostly work on your own (when I did the experience, I was the only Workaway volunteer). The room has everything you need, the house is very beautiful and warm (it was November), and the village is indeed quite far from bigger towns. However, you will have a bike to explore the area (people with a car won’t have this problem). I recommend this experience to people who want to learn the language, who are independent, and who enjoy peace and quiet. A bientot :)

I planned on staying for one month, and I stayed for six :). The magical pirate home that David has created is truly one of a kind. It was nothing like anything I've ever done - I feel so lucky to have even stumbled across it in the first place. It's a challenge and an adventure and it's not for everyone, but if it's for you it could be the best thing you've ever chosen to do, like it was for me. I have best friends from all over the world now and I've unlocked a new way of living. Thank you Dave, and fair winds to you all there in Norway <3

I had an excellent time volunteering with Hanh in Kien Duc. The students were very polite and we had a lot of fun during the lessons. Outside of teaching hours I was very well looked after by Hanh, her family and the locals in the town. I got to see local life in Kien Duc, eating the food, seeing the sights and enjoying some activities. I felt very welcome and comfortable throughout the whole week 😊

It is difficult to explain in just a few lines what this Village has represented for me. Teaching English to Thai children, learning about Thai culture through Pantila and Mae Nine, visiting local markets, museums, and temples, painting, creating content, helping Buddy with gardening and attending cooking classes to learn authentic Thai cuisine, all of these experiences made me fall in love with volunteering, and I am truly honored to have had this opportunity. The village is very small, yet at the same time full of cafés and surrounded by nature, offering endless possibilities to explore and to live an authentic experience in close contact with the local community. Beyond the activities to follow and manage, the bonds created with the other volunteers are unique and deeply meaningful. Pantila, Mae Nine, and Buddy are amazing hosts. I truly felt at home with them, and I am incredibly grateful for everything I had the chance to learn from them. I hope to meet them again, as well as the lovely children at the school.

Hattie and Ellie-Mae came and stayed with us for a week in January 2026. During this week we were having a real push on progressing the restoration of the old cottage on the property. They were tasked with a large area cleanup along with preparation and painting of the lounge and kitchen areas. They made great improvements to these rooms during their short stay. Other times they prepared meals and helped in the kitchen. Hattie and Ellie were very happy helpful and polite young women. They worked well with our other workaway couple and enjoyed sharing experiences together over meals and board games. We very much enjoyed their company and we were sad to see them move on to their next adventure. We wish them all the very best in their travels and recommend them to any future workaway host. We hope to catch up with them in the UK later this year.

We loved getting to know Kai. My son really enjoyed spending time with him and the work he did when he was with us was really great. His attention to detail and consideration/ communication are beyond his years. Unfortunately his stay with us was cut short, but he worked hard to finish a project he’d started, which I really appreciated.. and I really hope his onward adventures are fun and fulfilling. Thanks for coming to hang out with us Kai. 🙏🏼🌼 May the road rise to meet you 🌼🤩

Trish and Riccardo were welcoming and generous host, providing everything for a comfortable stay. Trish is a very kind and polite person, enjoyable conversations and sharing life experiences. The property is quite big within a nice setting. Tasks were varied but very manageable. I helped with a few DIY and maintenance/fixing tasks. I would have liked a more structured/list of tasks given for the day to be more productive and also have some free time in the afternoon to explore the area, but because of late start in the morning, sporadic tasks and stopping for lunch, we were just working and no free time left in the day to do a walk or exploring. Food was nice, Trish cooks delicious healthy food. I would recommend to any workawayer planning to visit.

We stayed with Ingrid for 10 days. We both have prior experience with horses, which was one of the main reasons we chose this Workaway. On the first day, Ingrid worked alongside us and explained the tasks. We fed the horses together, cleaned the paddocks, and she showed us how things were usually done. From the second day onward, however, Ingrid no longer participated in the daily horse care. Feeding the horses and cleaning manure are already very time-consuming tasks, and while this could reasonably constitute the main volunteer work, we were also asked to complete many additional tasks on the side. We did not have any days off during our stay, and it seemed to be considered normal that we were fully responsible for the feeding and cleaning of the horses. For us, Workaway is meant to be a cultural exchange and a volunteer experience, which implies reasonable working hours, rest days, and a fair balance between giving and receiving. Unfortunately, this balance was missing in our case. In her profile, Ingrid mentions that she eats mostly vegetarian and reassures volunteers about sufficient protein intake. This did not reflect our experience. We had to wait five days before being offered an egg, which made meals feel nutritionally insufficient given the physical workload. On the positive side, Ingrid took us horseback riding, and the horses themselves are wonderful. We truly enjoyed spending time with them, which was the highlight of our stay. However, overall, we felt more like free labor than volunteers taking part in an exchange. Ingrid mentioned several times that we were “lucky” she had accepted our application for two weeks, whereas we believe Workaway is a mutual exchange, and hosts are equally fortunate to receive motivated volunteer help. At the end of our stay, we were not thanked for our work, which reinforced this feeling. We have extensive volunteering experience through Workaway, WWOOF, and other platforms, and we were genuinely excited about a horse-related experience. Unfortunately, despite the appealing profile, this turned out to be our least positive volunteer experience. After reading previous reviews, we noticed that other volunteers have reported similar experiences. We would therefore strongly recommend future volunteers to communicate very clearly with Ingrid in advance about expectations, working hours, days off, and boundaries. Without clear agreements, there is a real risk that the workload will become excessive and that your experience may be disappointing.
