    Description

I have a small property of just over five acres, featuring three dwellings: the main house and two separate granny flats, both of which are occupied by permanent tenants.

The property is home to a variety of animals, including dogs, cats, horses, and chickens. Caring for these animals is an important part of the Workaway experience.

I also maintain a large vegetable garden and a small orchard of young fruit trees, along with extensive gardens that require regular upkeep. In addition, there are well-established horse facilities that need ongoing maintenance and occasional repairs.

Work hours are structured but can be flexible when needed. During the summer months, we start early to avoid working in the heat, which allows for earlier finishes and more free time during the day. Feeding the animals is a daily responsibility, seven days a week.

From mid-October through to December 1st, your stay will largely involve assisting with the setup of a large Christmas display. Throughout December, some duties will take place in the evenings, including welcoming and interacting with visitors who come to view the display.

It’s a busy period, but also a very enjoyable and rewarding time.

A minimum stay of seven days is required.

This is a small lifestyle hobby farm with a wide variety of tasks, both indoors and outdoors.
Outdoor duties may include garden maintenance such as weeding, mowing, planting, and pruning, as well as general property upkeep like fence repairs, tool cleaning and maintenance, and tack care. Animal care is also a key part of the role and includes feeding, cleaning enclosures, mucking out horse areas, grooming horses, and washing dogs. Additional tasks may involve painting, splitting and stacking firewood, and cleaning or reorganising sheds.
Indoor tasks can include general housework such as cleaning, organising cupboards, washing windows, and handling household laundry (washing, drying, folding, and changing bed linen), along with bathroom cleaning.

My work schedule can be unpredictable and sometimes involves long hours. I also have a permanent injury that limits my capacity, and I may be away from the property from time to time. Because of this, you must be comfortable working independently and managing tasks on your own. Initiative, reliability, and the ability to work efficiently are essential. Daily tasks will be allocated, and the workday is considered complete once those tasks are finished. Please note that some jobs can be physically demanding, such as digging post holes or chopping wood.
You are expected to keep your accommodation clean and tidy at all times; this is to be done in your own time. As you will be sharing the house with me, it’s important to be respectful and considerate of others. You will also be responsible for preparing your own meals.
For experienced riders, there may be opportunities to ride; however, this is not part of your Workaway responsibilities and is to be done in your own time.

Workdays and hours will be agreed upon in advance and include two days off per week. Animal feeding and basic care, however, are required daily (approximately 15–20 minutes). On your days off, I encourage you to explore and enjoy the sights of Perth and the surrounding areas.

    Accommodation

Accommodation is in the main house, where you’ll share a bedroom with other Workawayers. The room can host up to four people and is set up with two sets of bunk beds. At times, the room may be shared by both male and female guests.

You’ll have access to a separate lounge area with a TV, as well as a second lounge that you’re welcome to share with me. The kitchen and bathroom are shared spaces.
All main meal ingredients are provided, and you’ll be responsible for preparing and cooking your own meals. Please note that snacks (such as chocolate, lollies, biscuits, and specialty items), as well as alcohol and soft drinks, are not included.

We ask that you clean up after yourselves and keep all shared areas clean and tidy at all times.

Chidlow is a small country town located about a 55-minute drive from the city. Public transport is limited, with only a few bus services each day. The town features a local lake that’s perfect for swimming and offers beautiful hiking opportunities.

The local tavern hosts regular weekly events, including quiz nights, jam sessions, and live bands on weekends. Nearby amenities include a small supermarket, liquor store, café, pharmacy, post office, and hairdresser.

There are plenty of scenic nature walks in the area, and you may even spot some local wildlife. I genuinely enjoy sharing my lifestyle with others and celebrating special occasions throughout the year, such as Australia Day, Easter, and Christmas.

I occasionally travel into the city, and you’re very welcome to come along. Living here offers the best of both worlds—a peaceful country lifestyle while still being close enough to explore Perth and its surrounding attractions.
