HELP ME,
SAVE,
ME SHIP!
My 100 year old Norwegian Gaff Ketch
SHE NEEDS BRIGHT SPARKS,
MOULD BREAKERS,
WILD ONES!
Never forget, and always remember:
A flappy sail, is not a happy sail!
I know it's exciting, but before you send a message read all of this babble. It's important you know what's in front of you!
If you're curious about what exactly is going on.
Ask me for our Instagram to follow our scurvy voyage.
Newer Update!!
Due to the scale of repairs needed for the boat I am now trying to build a non profit organisation in order to raise funding to restore the boat to her full potential.
I was hopefull that I could make rolling repairs on the boat while sailing. But the more I look in dark places. I'm beginning to understand she will need to be brought to land and worked on for some time. This will be a long term project and good humans will be absolutely required to help.
New wizards will be needed. Social media wizards, witches and or wichens will be crucial!
Content creators!
If you have experience with Non Profit Organisations. And NGO's
YOGI's
If your comfortable running some morning yoga lessons. You be very welcome onboard!!
WE NEED YOU!
Some sailing will still be done to find the boat her land home. But work will need to be done to secure funding for this process!
We are in Norway for the next two months at least. We will do what repairs we can here. If we can find a reasonable solution we will go to a yard here to do the works. Otherwise we will set sail when calm seas allow us to go to the boat's next home!
If u could spare some time tell us a tall tale. The crew love to hear about ye.
Tell us a wee fib, a story, a tale, you can start it with "One day I er seen an enchantment I dids, the skies were mischievous that day, they was......"
DON'T PANIC or STRESS it can be a sentence or a paragraph. You can write it in your own language if you like. I will attempt to poorly translate it if necessary.
Just a note at the kind of humans who we love.
Humans who love other humans.
If you cannot sit at the table with humans of a different, sex, ethnicity, sexuality, or opinion then you are not welcome at ours.
If you believe war on civilians is just, you are unwelcome onboard.
I will not discriminate on crew,
coming onboard from anywhere on this earth, as long as they can be kind and respectful to their fellow crew members.
All humans sexual identities will be accepted. And all persons coming onboard would be expected to respect their fellow crew in this regard. Which is just common courtesy really.
IMPORTANT!!!
I'm still looking for superstars but sailing will be postponed until the ship has her engine running like a wee 120hp kitten.
There is plenty to be done. And we are doing it while enjoying the beautiful country of Norway. Engine progress has been slow. But we have help from some local legends. We will sail again but we have to focus on getting the boat more shipshape.
CARPENTERS come to us! MUSICIANS we need you. General good-time generating individuals hope to sea you soon ;)
Yarrr very welcome onboard! ;)
We NEED
CARPENTERS!!!
COOKS!!!
MORE SAILORS!!
Instruments!!!
If you have any old dusty broken or working instruments bring them along!
Yes singers count!
Tall ship experience helpful!!
We are currently in Norway. And we are sailing for Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Netherlands, Cornwall, Scillies, Ireland!
(Sailing is currently on hold, but there's work to be done and a life to be lived onboard, any crew members who join the boat and have a positive connection to the boat are welcome to come back and sail in the future!)
I am searchin for legends to join the CREW. Scurvy salty dogs to the top of the queue.
Im trying to keep my phone time to a minimum.
. ( It's normal to be inquisitive but read the profile fully and maybe your questions will be answered)
Running this ship will take lots of my time and mental effort. People interested are invited to come and see the boat and spend some days onboard. I will not be answering profiles looking for a holiday itinerary. I simply don't have the time or the desire to deal with such requests.
Just to be clear, you can absolutely introduce yourself and write me whatever length message you like. I have no problem reading about you. I just can't be answering lots of questions via email mainly in your application message.
I will give you all the time you need in person!
Looking for help with CARPENTRY, BOATBUILDING, RESTORATION, FURNITURE DESIGN, INTERIOR DESIGN, ARTISTS, PAINTERS.
SHIPS TAILOR / costume maker / fashionista / stitcher of rags / pirate clothing specialist!!
DECK HANDS
NAVIGATORS ( I will do the navigating but having extra onboard is always great!)
Studiers of PRODUCT DESIGN we very much love you wizards and wichens onboard!!
Experience with large marine diesel engines helpful! I have some skills with these old ladies but more skills are needed!
Boat building experience a massive plus!
Seeking like-minded pirates.
Sailing around, in search of adventure, living a minimalist life, exploring and harnessing the power of the wind. We will be looking for beautiful places to spend time in and friendly people to meet with. Play some music and eat nice healthy food. My current Vessel is a wooden sailing ship. Which can sleep up to 10 people. I'm looking for 8 to 10 workawayers for crew to help with the running of the ship and working on her.. The boat is not ready for long distance voyaging just yet. So we will be spending some time in Port getting her ship shape. We can still do some sailing locally. So we can still socialise, go to some pubs. I have been getting lots of requests asking me to describe each day and what the plans are on certain dates. This is a lifestyle that specific planning doesn't really work well with. A day could be some organising, some painting, a walk to a beach , a sail to a nice bay, meeting friends, going to the city to get some parts, moving the boat....
I recommend people to come for a few days see what's happening and decide if it's something you like. I don't have time to answer " what are you doing on this day " or " tell me more about your project"...
I am happy to talk and explain anything to anyone in person. But I don't want to be on my phone all day answering questions.
I will be happy to share my skills and knowledge about sailing with anyone who comes. I have been sailing since I have been 5 years old. Every day I am learning. And it is a difficult lifestyle at times. But it is very rewarding! It's a beautiful life to live!!!
Always looking for enthusiastic sailors or would love to be sailors. Enthusiasm is the only requirement to anyone who wants to learn how to sail.
Also looking to recruit ships bard, ships musicians, ships artists, currently have ships cook, but more are welcome.
Ships bard and musician sometimes are the same people. Storytellers and musicians. We have a nice guitar onboard, and will be searching for more instruments.
Ships artists can be anyone creative and happy to doodle, draw, paint, and laugh.
Ships cooks are people who love cooking for others. They are vital onboard and are highly respected. Generally they do what they like.
If you fit the description of any of the roles described let me know.
If you have taken the time to read this show me by starting your message with
"J'arrrr matey I be wantin to join jer crew, I be applying for the salty position o ships.... Insert your skill here. " You can apply for ships crew all that is needed is enthusiasm!!
Just to be clear this project is not a business. Maybe at some point the boat might be able to generate some revenue but for now it does not. And it will be a non payment opportunity. If that doesn't suit you. It's not the place for you. I will be buying food. Crew might be given cash to buy what they would like. But it will not be in exchange for help done. The sailing of a traditional vessel can be very physically demanding and tiring. Sometimes for the good of the boat. Things will need to be done. Please make sure your prepared to help. I do not make people do tasks for the sake of it. I also will be very conscious of peoples abilities and general wellbeing. It will be an open communication atmosphere. All feedback will be welcome and together as a crew we will decide what is best for ourselves and for the ship.
On another note. Working people are welcome on board. If you generate your own income while living onboard you would be expected to make a small financial contribution to the boat. Essentially it would be sharing some food costs.
Just to be honest. I had not planned to be stuck in Norway for this long and it's honestly one of the most expensive countries in the world. Food will be bought and anyone onboard is welcome to eat whatever they feel like whenever they feel like. Communal meals are made everyday.
If you feel like contributing some items or some shopping it would be lovely!
I look forward to meeting you and sharing our time. :)
On another note. If YOU are struggling with addiction, if YOU are sober curious! Sailing is an absolute, resolute medium, for the healing of the spirit, and the mind!
Something to consider.
We are not always moving, sailing is about staying put sometimes, and working on your vessel so that you can sail again. If you ask me to tell you when I'm sailing again so you can just show up for a trip. It doesn't speak very highly of your character. It's just as important to live and learn on a boat that isn't moving as it is on one which is. If you are considering making this lifestyle yours. You should think about this.
Another point,
We have two hilarious wee boats with outboard engines. If you would like to learn how to drive a powerboat it can absolutely be arranged. If there is anything you would like to learn or be explained. Don't be afraid to ask me!! I can always make time to teach and expain. Don't forget it's why your here. :)
We have some smaller sailing boats. We can do sailing lessons on them. We also have a lovely catamaran dinghy people can also learn on. Just because the ship isn't sailing doesn't mean sailing isn't happening. We also have 2 kayaks crew are allowed take for a paddle any time.
If you have managed to make it this far, and read this sentence please tell me. "Your a sentence!" In your message somewhere.
Please read all the profile!
And remember
Audentes Fortuna Iuvat.
Fortune favours the bold.
One should act boldly and bravely to accomplish greatness.
Nothing good will happen unless you have the heart and courage to take chances.
If ye be lookin or thinkin o buyin yer own boat I can help ye! Norway has many old cheap boats for sale in remarkable condition. Also many boats are given away here. So it's possible to find one. If you are thinking about living aboard let me know!
ANOTHER THING!!!!
I cannot know if I will have space months in advance. People are coming and going all the time. If you want to join us. Send me a message let me know when your planning to come. And get in touch about month before your coming and I can let you know what the situation is. I know this isn't ideal for people trying to plan ahead or book flights. But it's just the nature of the beast. It's ever changing. Flexibility is key! There are many opportunities in Europe if it doesn't work you can do anything! And spaces come up all the time so if you have to spend a week or two elsewhere it will be fine. :)
Just to let people know in advance, this is my home, and if I accept every request it might cause unpleasantness. It's impossible to know who to pick so sometimes I might choose to not accept you based on my own intuition. Mostly it's correct but not always. So if I don't accept your request at this time don't be disheartened or take it personally. I'm doing my best and keep searching for your adventure. Who knows what the future holds. :)
New spiel.
The ship is a big girl and needs different types of repairs at different times. If the boat is on dry land tasks will include painting and traditional methods of boatbuilding mainly caulking, sometimes changing planks. Also nailing and sealing with wooden plugs.
The Ship's Bean fund!
This project is really difficult to fund. Hopefully we will get more online attention but until that happens my personal funds are pretty much depleted often just by feeding the crew. Therefore I am requiring all workawayers coming onboard to make a one time donation to the cause on arrival. This contribution can be whatever amount you like or a gift of food. I understand people use workaway to save money. I have used it myself. But I think this system will help a little bit with costs and if people can't afford much even a small amount is enough. The biggest cost currently is food here in Norway. If you want to bring with you some coffee, or bread or butter, or anything you think would be nice. It can also be made entirely in chocolate if desired.
Due to funding woes this will be a requirement. If you are willing to share a wee bit o yer gold with us. Say
I be willin to share a little bit of me treasure, or gruel with ye Captain.
One more last little wee thing. I know I'm sorry it goes on and on like the rollin sea.
If you join us. Make a wee post of yer social media and tag us and ask yer hearties to follow us. So that we may grow and the ship be saved.
Fair winds me hearties,
And followin seas.
Due to a high volume of requests, people who don't read the profile, and make it shown will not be responded to quickly.
You've made it this far. Good on you. Keep reading me heartie, with a little more perseverence youl find yer gold!! ;)Types of help and learning opportunities

Travellers will get to experience life living aboard a sailing boat. I can teach them about sailing and share all my knowledge of the sea. Benefits will be improved fitness, improved mental health, the fulfillment of working as a part of a team. Ability to be creative and to learn new skills. A chance to get infected with the sailing bug. Which stays with some for life.
We have now two lovely sea kayaks which I can give lessons in. I was a kayak instructor some moons ago.
We also have a very small little sailing boat we call banana. Which you are welcome to go exploring in and I can also give you lessons.Help
Mainly looking for crew, to help with everyday tasks on board. Varies from steering the boat while I take up the anchor or take out the sails. To some cooking, some cleaning, and odd jobs that need to be done. Like some painting maybe decorating.
It will be the responsibility of the crew to prepare breakfast, lunch and dinner each day.
Crew are also responsible for keeping the saloon tidy. This includes doing the dishes and refilling our water jugs. Keeping the table relatively uncluttered is particularly helpful for our minds and is also doubly important at sea.
Emptying bins is also a beautiful thing to do.
Making tea and or coffee is also always a small act of love that keeps the crew smiling and thriving.
Games are always welcome and crew are encouraged to spontaneously start them. Who am I is a classic staple on the ship.
I'm always happy for ART onboard if you have an idea let me know and we can buy the supplies and make it happen!
Always while sailing it's important to have a good rain jacket. Waterproof trousers are also good to have. (You can get cheap ones of these in most outdoor stores) and nice warm layers. Wool is great because it stays warm when wet. Outdoor hiking fleeces are also good. We have no shower onboard so we take them where we can find them including currently a local waterfall. We will also be washing our clothes by hand onboard. If this doesn't suit you then life at sea probably won't either.
In terms of bedding, if you can bring a sleeping bag it means theres more blankets to go around. And if you can't we will find some for you.
Boat is currently in Norway. Plans are to Head South.
If you have read this section and agree to the terms. Include "I be a salty Dog at heart captain" somewhere in your intro message.Languages

I have basic French and Spanish would like to improve on both.Accommodation
The boat has 3 different living areas. 2 cabins and a Saloon area. Guests could be in their own cabin, or sleeping in the saloon. It will depend on who is already onboard. We will also swap around and generally people can sleep where they are most comfortable. Food will be provided. A big shop will be done with all of us together and we will take turns cooking and cleaning.
We have another small sailing boat that crew can also live in while we are here in Norway. If you are introverted this might suit you down to the ground :)What else ...
Depending on where we are travellers can decide what they would like to do. Sea swimming can be done daily. We will look for hikes where we can find them and try to make the most of where we visit.
