  • Description

What have two Belgian guys, a Polish girl and a Georgian street dog in common? An newly-bought old house on the Georgian countryside near the city of Martvili and a desire to turn it into an amazing hostel.

We are a team of 3 friends and our dog, Madonna. Each from different backgrounds – we include a social worker, a theatre artist and an academic researcher – we decided to change our previous lives in big European cities for a venture on the Georgian countryside. Georgia is a marvellous country south of the Caucasus mountain range and is getting more and more popular touristic destination.

Our house is located in Samegrelo, a western region of Georgia, close to the city of Martvili. If you would ask anyone in Georgia about Martvili, you’ll hear stories of its beautiful canyons and plentiful waterfalls. You’ll hear stories of Megrelians, i.e. the people of Samegrelo, who speak their own language, have a rich cultural tradition and a distinct cuisine. And yet, despite the many tourists coming to the Martvili, tourist accommodation here hasn’t been developed much.
That’s where we come in the picture! We aspire to help fill in that gap, starting from scratch, to turn our house into a beautiful hostel, with an artist residence, a bar and much more.

Construction works are slowly ending but we still need a help with plumbing/ gardening/ woodworking/ Deadline is knocking to the door.
    Last minute volunteers needed.
Feel free to write and join our project.
    Best wishes
    Emanuela, Max, Woody

As said before house is located in Samegrelo, a region in western Georgia with its very own language, and a distinct culture. Considering that we are one of the very few foreigners living in the region at the moment, you will get an pure taste of Georgian and Megrelian life.
    – A greet time in the Samegrelo regions with its canyons, hot springs, waterfalls and many more
    – An enriching experience in a vibrating hostel with many international guests

Since October we can call ourselves owners of a huge, old Georgian house with over 3000m2 of land full of fruits and nut trees. The house is amazing and you – just as we did – will fall in love with it immediately. However, seeing that it’s an big old house, it also requires big renovations to transform it into a hostel appropriate to modern standards. We want to do as much ourselves as possible hence the first and foremost skills we need are mainly related to constructing and designing (see below). We also want to cultivate our own fruits and vegetables, build a greenhouse and have cows, pigs and chickens.
But actually, you can be helpful in many ways, probably even ways we didn’t think of :) Maybe when you are here, you’ll get creative and have ideas to give a special touch to our hostel, and we will always be open to hear them.

    Skills needed:
    Decorating & painting
    Laying bricks
    Landscape design for the garden
    Cultivating fruits & vegetables
    Keeping animals

    We offer:
    – Board and lodging (You’ll have your own room until the hostel opens, then the private rooms will be held for the guests and you can sleep in the dormitory)
    – Usually we will cook together or in shifts
    – Samegrelo has a mostly subtropical climate, so expect warm summers with plentiful of exotic fruits like mandarins, kakhi and kiwis.
