Description
Hi there !
I'm Thomas, a 25 french young man who just graduated from university last summer. Interested in sustainable ways of living, ecological and social issues, I'm taking a year (or two 🙃) to travel accross Europe and Asia to live new experiences, learn practical skills and discover more about the world we're living in.
I used to live near Paris, where I grew up until I was 20, I then lived in two cities in the North and South-West of France (Compiègne and Toulouse), and I spent the last two years in Canada, where I finished my studies regarding ecological issues in urban centers.
After being in the education system for more than 20 years and having experienced several professional activities, I'm looking to enrich my understanding of the world through an engagement in several activities that I believe are essential to human life, notably growing food in sustainable ways, building or renovating houses (with a particular interest for woodwork), and I'm also interested in social oriented projects with a focus on community life and supporting each other. I thus wish to meet people engaged in such practices and learn from their experience by actively participating in the work that has to be done. I'm willing to learn a lot from those experiences so I will be glad to help... and I prefer to warn that I will most probably ask a lot of questions :)
Regarding what I like in life, I'm of a curious nature so I love to learn new things everyday, there is rarely a topic on which I won't be interested in discussing about. Also, even if I grew up and lived mostly in urban centers, I always loved to spend time outside camping, hiking or just enjoying the fresh air, and as my interest for sustainable ways of living grows years after years, I feel more and more the need to connect with nature. More generally, I enjoy discovering new places, people and cultures (with a soft spot for local food ;)). I also love animals and appreciate life in community !
I'll be glad to be able to help you in your activity and have the opportunity to live among your community for some time.
Hoping to see you soon !Interests

More details about your skills
I started travelling in September 2023 and I learned various skills from my previous volunteering experiences:
- from the two weeks I spent in an organic farm in Slovenia, I learned weeding and how to plant, harvest, and prepare fresh vegetables to get them ready for being sold on markets.
- in Croatia, I spent two weeks helping a young family to settle on their land. We renovated an old house, plastering the walls with a mix of clay, sand and straw, we renovated an old roof, disassembling the old covering and installing a new one, and we digged tranches to install a water supply network.
- in Bosnia and Herzegovina, I spent almost 40 days helping to build a wildlife sanctuary. Mostly working on the construction of a guesthouse and amenities for the animals, woodworking and preparing furniture, and taking care of the animals (dogs, horses, and a wolf).
Between my projects in Croatia and Bosnia, I also lived 10 days in an alternative community centered around circus in Zagreb, helping in the everyday life of the community and experimenting other ways of life.
- in Türkiye, I built a natural stones staircase in a 2 weeks project and got more experience in woodwork by assisting a carpenter during one week, notably renovating a wooden door.
- in Georgia, I volunteered 6 weeks in Karma Hostel where I helped renovate and build new amenities during the low season. I also helped with the everyday tasks like cleaning and preparing the rooms and I enjoyed a lot the stimulation of meeting people from all over the world.
Generally speaking, I'm in a good physical shape so I can practice any manual work that requires no specifical technical skill, I'm also willing to learn new skills so I'll be happy if you can teach me some ;)
Also, from my previous jobs I have experience working as a waiter so I'm used to contact with clients. I also love animals and I always lived with cats so taking care of 4-legged friends won't be a problem.Age

What else ...
I'm quite an easy living person who love the stimulation brought by meeting and getting to know new people. I'm also interested in left politics and activism. Otherwise, I like to practice yoga and other sports in my free time.
