Description
Hello! My name is Tom and I'm from Manchester UK. I love being out in nature, music, learning, doing creative projects, and reading.

At the end of April 2025 I left my job to travel & volunteer around the world, to see how other people live, and to learn about the world around me.

I'm really keen in particular to join projects that are community-based where there is opportunity to exchange with others, especially anything where I can pick up some new hands-on skills e.g. carpentry, farming, gardening. If this is out in nature, even better. I really enjoy farm work and am more than happy to lend a spare pair of hardworking hands here.

I'm easy-going, friendly, and sociable, while also appreciating my time alone to recharge. Tidy, organised, reliable, and highly respectful of others' personal space - I've lived in shared spaces for many years and know how to keep things running happily and smoothly.

I worked as a volunteer in hostels in Georgia and Sri Lanka for 3 months in total, so I'd be a good addition for any housekeeping/reception work.

I've also spent about two months in total working on organic farms in Nepal and Turkiye. I'm by no means an expert, but have basic experience in planting seeds, weeding, pruning, picking veggies, replacing irrigation systems, fence building, and taking care of animals.

I taught English in a conversational language cafe in Istanbul, so language teaching/exchange is something I'm also comfortable with.

Besides this, I would really love to learn more about carpentry, gardening, and small-scale farming.

My professional background is in social sciences research, so I can also lend a hand to any boring admin work you might want to get out of the way ;)

I'm also into hiking, swimming, baking, a good card game, going for a run, and being humiliatingly bad at chess.

Tom adapted very easy to the farm, to the animals. 10 days passed very comfortably with him . He followed the rules, was respectful and hard worker. I had a wonderful short but sweet stay helping out on Emine's farm for just under two weeks. The work had a nice rhythm to it with farm tasks followed by dog walks, and the days are well-structured which made it easy to slip into a routine.
