Hey Mark and Sarah! Just wanted to give you both a huge shoutout for your 10 days volunteering with us in Ruboni. It was awesome having you here! Mark, your energy across conservation, artemisia harvesting, and computer work was really impressive. You jumped right in and made a solid impact, which we totally appreciate. And Sarah, even though you had a few tough days feeling under the weather, you still showed up and contributed so much. Your dedication, even when not at 100%, didn't go unnoticed. You both tackled a bunch of different tasks and really helped out. It was great seeing your commitment, and everything ran smoothly because of your efforts. Thanks for being such a fantastic part of the team!

Thank you Eva for your great help. Eva stayed with us for 3 weeks in January and she was a really good help. She is a kind person and adapted quick to our busy life. Eva helped around the house, cooked us lovely swiss Roesti and a nice chocolate cake. She did her tasks independently and also looked around where she could help. The 3 weeks went quickly and we would have loved her staying longer:). We recommend Eva to anyone who is looking for a nice person to be part of their family.

Malte was a great volunteer who volunteered on his own for the first time. He quickly familiarised himself with things he didn't know before, and no matter how exhausting it was, we had good conversations and he always had a smile on his face. I would definitely suggest Malte as volunteer to be part of a bigger team. Thanks for your valuable help!

Muna is a very nice, welcoming host who really wants to make sure you get a nice cultural experience in return to your help! He showed me around and teached me a lot about Buddhism and living surrounded by nature. Still I also feel like I need to add that the communication before I arrived could've been better. For context, I am a young woman travelling solo and at that point trying workaway for the first time, and the location is a bit cut off and in a nontouristic city. I expected to be hosted by a couple or family but then Carla texted me in the morning of my arrival that she's not even in Sri Lanka right now. I also read in the profile that I would have my own bedroom which wasn't the case, I actually had to ask for at least having the bed to myself, which Muna was happy to offer though. In addition when I arrived there were no guests at all (due to the recent floodings) which was clearly understandable but would've been nice to know in advance. The dogs are very cute, and you can spot many animals. Also even though I didnt expect it, Muna covered all the food which was very generous. So overall I'm definitely thankful for the experience! It was just a bit unfortunate that the beginning (since I didnt know Muna yet), didnt make me feel very comfortable since it could've been avoided by proper communication i guess

Lily (Elizabeth) and George were absolutely fantastic, nothing was too hard for them, the 3 weeks they stayed with us flew by, so much was accomplished by them after a really long winter we were way behind with maintenance of the paddocks ( fallen trees) winter wood stacked and weeds slashed, Lily and George just about completely finished everything. They were keen to learn, always happy and chatty with lily’s million and one questions, never any dishes left in the sink, and great at games 😊 We would have no hesitation in recommending them.

I would definitely recommend staying at this hostel :) I had a really nice time and even came back for another two weeks during my time in Sri Lanka because its very easy to socialize, there are many other volunteers and somehow the vibe is always good. Apart from the shifts you still have plenty of time to go surfing, join the yoga, go to the beach or join the fun daily evening activities! The shifts themselves are also fine, there's a document that explains everything so you will learn it easily and its also nice to talk to the new guests :)

I had a meaningful and memorable Workaway babysitting experience with this family. I spent the most time with the youngest, Rayan, who is such a loving and adorable child. Caring for him and spending time together was truly special for me. Yousef and Zeina are both strong-minded and expressive in their own ways, but also very warm and affectionate kids, which made getting to know them really rewarding. At the beginning, there was a moment where a misunderstanding almost happened because of my language barrier. However, when I tried to explain myself again, the hosts took the time to listen to me with openness and patience. I was very grateful for that—it made me feel respected and understood. I also had the chance to meet many members of the family, which was a fun and enriching experience. Sharing meals together and discovering a wide variety of Egyptian food was something I truly enjoyed. Cooking with Grandma Gugu, in particular, is a moment I will deeply miss—it was warm, generous, and full of heart. Overall, this experience allowed me to connect with the family on a human level, learn about their culture, and create memories I’ll carry with me. I’m thankful for the time we shared.

Mina has been a mid winter suprise; she applied during weeks of unusually wet & stormy weather yet I welcomed her with enthusiasm due to her excellent reviews. I did not regret a minute of my decision, since she was a great help sitting the dogs as I had to go after routine errands in town which is 3 hours return trip besides the time needed to have errands done. Whenever weather permitted she helped with some weeding, dead heading and sweeping leaves; turning the compost over; she helped gathering vegetables and greens from the garden, washing and preparing them for cooking. She is practical, easy with problem solving and is skilled with a screwdriver, hammer and pliers too. She is a true and thorough cleaner! My books have never been so clean for years. She is alert, has a strong sense of responsibility; has an eye for detail, she remembers what she took from where and puts it back in its place so I did not suffer looking for things after she used them. I can not imagine how sharp she could be if it was not for the unfortunate social and political chaos going on in her country Iran from which she could get no information due to all kinds of communication cut during her first days of arrival. She's been great with Corek the man of the house and Aira her majesty the queen of the property; their tails were whirling like windmills on a storm each morning when Mina arrived by the main house. We can't wait to have her back.

It was our first volunteering experience in Malaysia and, honestly, we couldn’t have started in a better way. Everything and everyone makes you feel welcome, as if you were “at home”.The hostel is one of the best we’ve ever stayed at. Clean, comfortable, with many different spaces for whatever you need. The staff and the other volunteers are always in a great mood! We were there around Chinese New Year and it allowed us to learn a lot about a culture we previously knew very little about.A big hug and we’re sure we’ll come back!

My experience at the center was incredible! I stayed at Senuja Homestay, and they were the best family to experience Sri Lankan culture in depth. The center has three different locations, two of which are in the mountains in beautiful settings. The children have a fantastic level of English, and it's so enjoyable to share and play with everyone so they continue learning. I loved that the organization wasn't too structured because it gives you freedom to act. So be prepared to create your own classes and games! I only have words of gratitude for Mr. Janaka for creating such a lovely space, for all the children who are so sweet, and for the family who hosted me—I'll carry them in my heart forever! I would definitely go back; I already miss you all🧡

I am very grateful that you shared your plans with us honestly and clearly, including any possible changes. This kind of open communication made us feel very reassured and at ease. Your talent for drawing was a lovely surprise. Even after you returned home, Gourd continued to learn from you—especially drawing flowers and plants—which impressed him greatly. Thank you for sharing the story and photos of the mushrooms with us, and for telling us about life in Canada. We could really feel how much you love your homeland, how fortunate you are to have been born there, and how deeply you care for your two older sisters. Everything you shared felt new and fun to us, and we truly enjoyed learning from you. By the way, thank you for telling me you like going to the gym. We've lived here but had never been before. Even after you went home, we have continued to go to the gym from time to time. ⋂‿⋂

Vivienne and her son Alby have made my first ever Workaway experience truly memorable. I stayed with them a little over two weeks and by the end I felt that I had gained a new family overseas. Vivienne has included me into her lovely circle of friends, made sure I was not lacking anything and showed me around their beautiful area. Her son Alby is creative, witty and very funny and she is doing a wonderful job in raising a respectful and lovely human. She is also a fantastic cook and pastry chef and I felt spoiled by her yummy meals. A lot of the work is in tandem to Vivienne or making sure someone is home in the mornings whilst she is at work. The work felt very reasonable - I mainly played with Alby and kept an eye on him and helped out with daily household chores (as you would in your own home). She always respected my personal space and ensured I got time to myself and days off to explore.

Paulie and Rafael arrived with a deep sense of purpose and presence, bringing a genuine desire to engage, contribute, and be part of something meaningful. Their way of traveling is rooted in connection—learning from others, sharing what they know, and offering their energy in service of a greater collective experience. They were incredible collaborators: always smiling, deeply committed, and working with exceptional care and attention in every activity they took part in. They dedicated themselves fully to distillation, the care of the garden, and the preparation of organic products, approaching each task with curiosity, responsibility, and respect, while also sharing openly and connecting with the entire team. It was a true pleasure to share time and space with them. They are, without a doubt, among the most interesting, kind, and inspiring travelers we have met. We wholeheartedly recommend them and strongly encourage other projects to welcome and count on their presence.

It was an absolute pleasure staying with this host. From the very beginning, I felt welcomed, respected, and treated as part of the home. The atmosphere was warm, calm, and full of good energy. Communication was always clear and patient, and I truly appreciated the understanding and kindness shown toward me while I was still improving my English. The tasks were well explained, fair, and meaningful, and I always felt trusted and supported in my work. Beyond the work, I am very grateful for the conversations, laughter, and shared moments that made this experience so special. This was not only a great Workaway experience, but also a beautiful human connection. I highly recommend this host to any workawayer looking for a genuine, respectful, and enriching experience. I will always remember my time here with gratitude and affection.

Even though I only stayed with Mahesh and his family for a few days, I can completely recommend him as a host if you want to gain a real insight into the culture of Sri Lankan People. The communication with him was always clear and easy. His wife Rosemary is very friendly and his children are very open minded. We even got to spend the traditional Poyaday with them and got the chance to be part of a school ceremony. Mahesh showed us beautiful beaches around Tangalle and we also joined one of his and his Childrens Karate classes. Thank you Mahesh!

Tracie is such a lovely person, and I absolutely loved staying at her place. The house is beautiful, and the garden is incredible — so many plants everywhere, it felt like a little paradise. She’s also an excellent cook, and even before I moved in she made sure to ask what food I liked so she could prepare everything perfectly for me. She was thoughtful in every way, always making sure I had what I needed. Tracie and Pete also took the time to show me around, and we visited waterfalls and explored so much nature together. They are just two genuinely wonderful people, and I’m really grateful for the experience. If I’m ever in Cairns again, I will definitely go back to visit them!:)

✨ We had the absolute pleasure of hosting these two wonderful volunteers, and I can truly say they were the best company one could wish for. From the very beginning, they brought joy, kindness, and positive energy into the house, and we shared unforgettable moments together. They managed the place completely independently while I was away — everything was spotless, organized, and beautifully maintained. Their dedication and responsibility gave me such peace of mind. On top of that, they helped with cooking delicious meals: crepes, salads, rice… and we enjoyed lovely dinners together. Our karaoke nights were magical — listening to them sing felt like hearing a pair of angels! Beyond their work, they were simply delightful companions. We laughed, shared stories, and created memories that I will treasure forever. Their presence made the house feel alive and full of warmth. I wholeheartedly recommend them to any host. They are reliable, hardworking, and bring so much joy wherever they go. Hosting them was a gift, and I am deeply grateful for the time we spent together. Thank you both — you will always have a special place here, and I hope our paths cross again someday! 🌿🎶✨

Yiran is an amazing young woman that fit into our little family like a charm. Zuma loved her from the get go for all the long walks she took her on. She was most helpful in everything we asked of her, our yard is looking beautiful and I cant wait to see all the flowers we planted and seeded grow. She helped Kurt with some computer issues and we had fun cooking together and some art projects. She taught me how to make dumplings and spring rolls, yumm. We wish her all the best with her studies and travels.
