    Description

Our foundation was established in 2002 to help students who live around our remote village, Hingurukaduwa. We are our village heartbeat, teaching English and I.T/computer skills free of charge to our students. Our reason for existence is to inspire local youths to go ahead to advanced studies, thereby helping them and their families out of poverty.

We have a newly opened knowledge center 30Km away from our center in the middle of tea plantation. If you wish to stay in that beautiful village, we can offer you this opportunity as well. We have a greenhouse agriculture project as well.

The village is situated in UVA province in the middle of the country. It is a very peaceful village with hospitable people.

Our organization is being helped by donors and foundations.

So far, lots of international volunteers have visited our village and given us great help.
You are welcome.... Volunteer families are also welcome - We have a special family room with a small kitchen space...

    ENGLISH CLASSES:

We want you to help our students, aged 7 - 17 years, to improve their spoken English skills; since they don't get a chance to speak English at home or in school. You will be asked to run classes in which you practice speaking with the students, helping them to be more fluent and comfortable in English conversations . You don't have to teach grammar in the class since we do it. Helping the students to improve their speaking ability will be hugely beneficial. There is also a need for volunteers who can work with our teachers, helping them to strengthen their English skills.
There are six groups of students
    1. Primary
    2. slow learners ( no age limit)
    3. beginners
    4. intermediate level
    5. advanced

You can choose any of these groups ( everything is flexible ) We have enough local teachers. We only need your support to make students talk when they have free time.

You will only have to help at least 4 days per week. We prefer volunteers to stay for at least 3 months. ( Two weeks are also welcome, two weeks means three (3) Saturdays)

Our school runs after school and on weekends, primarily it is a Saturday school, so you must be able to work on Saturdays. Your hours would be something like this:
    Saturday - 8 AM to 1. PM ( 1st Center ) 2 PM to 6 PM ( 2nd Center )
During the week: the schedule is arranged personally with you.
You can get two or three days free to travel

So basically you will be teaching at our school on Saturdays. During the rest of the week, we will provide you with group classes according to your desire. ( homeschooling )

    MEDIA & COMMUNICATIONS:

As part of a new project, we are currently looking for help on Social Media, Photography, Video Maker, and Video editing. In order to achieve more publicity, we just created a new Facebook page that needs to be managed (posting and sharing content) and we are in the process of establishing a YouTube channel that will be used also in marketing. Any skills and ideas around these topics are really welcome!
We also want to train the students that are currently doing the IT Course with these media &communications skills.

    IT COURSE:
We provide 3 levels of IT Courses. From the introduction to the computer, Microsoft Office to Illustrator and Photoshop, to Web development and Web designing, and Programing.
    Any help here is welcome!

    GRANT APPLICATION:
We are dependent on support from international and local organizations to continue to support local youths. If you have the skillset to help us be in contact with global aid organizations (UN, Embassies, Foundations) and handle our application work, you could have a very direct impact on the life of many. Excellent written English skills and understanding of our value-add are required for this task.

On special holidays you will be able to join our elder students in outdoor activities such as visiting beaches, playing Cricket, Volleyball, Netball, etc.

Around our village, you can visit the waterfall of our village, amazing hiking opportunities ( isolated beautiful village top of the mountain ), crystal clear rivers, and ancient temples.

Most host families have children who attend the center, and are excited to practice their English skills and teach volunteers some Sinhalese. The location of the homestay is very peaceful and calm.
