Our foundation was established in 2002 to help students who live around our remote village, Hingurukaduwa. We are our village heartbeat, teaching English and I.T/computer skills free of charge to our students. Our main objective is to enable students to achieve their goals.
We have newly opened knowledge centre 30Km away from our centre in the middle of tea plantation. If you wish to stay that beautiful village, we can offer you this opportunity as well. We have an greenhouse agriculture project as well.
The village is situated in UVA province in the middle of the country. It is a very peaceful village with innocent and hospitable people.
Our organization is being helped by donors and foundations.
So far, lots of international volunteers have visited our village and given us great help.

We want you to help our students, aged 7 - 17 years, to improve their spoken English skills; since they don't get a chance to speak English at home or in school. You will be asked to run classes in which you practice speaking with the students, helping them to be more fluent and comfortable in English conversations . You don't have to teach grammar in the class since we do it. Helping the students to improve their speaking ability will be hugely beneficial. There is also a need for volunteers who can work with our teachers, helping them to strengthen their English skills.
There are six groups of students
2. slow learners ( no age limit)
4. intermediate level
6. staff and school leavers ( university students only come to the centre weekdays morning )
You can choose any of these groups ( everything is flexible ) We have enough local teachers. We only need your support to make students talk when they have free time.
You will only have to help at least 4 days per week. We prefer volunteers to stay for at least 3 months. ( Two weeks also welcome, two weeks means two Saturdays)
Our school runs after school and on weekends, primarily it is a Saturday school, so you must be able to work on Saturdays. Your hours would be something like this:
Saturday - 8 AM to 1.PM
During the week: schedule is arrange personally with you.
You can get two or three days free to travel
So basically you will be teaching at our school on Saturdays. During the rest of the week we will provide you group classes according to your desire.
MEDIA & COMMUNICATIONS:
As part of a new project we are currently looking for help on Social Media, Photography, Video Maker and Video editing. In order to achieve more publicity, we just created a new Facebook page that needs to be managed (posting and sharing content) and we are in the process of creating a new website. Any skills and ideas around these topics are really welcome!
We also want to train the students that are currently doing the IT Course with these media &communications skills.
We provide 3 levels of IT Courses. From the introduction to the computer, Microsoft Office to Illustrator and Photoshop, to Web developing and Web designing, and Programing.
Any help here is welcome!
On special holidays you will be able to join our elder students in outdoor activities such as visiting beaches, playing Cricket, Volleyball, Netball, etc.
Every volunteer will be provided 1 or 2 trips to beaches or waterfalls and assistance will be given for you to visit other tourist destinations.
Around our village, you can visit to the waterfall of our village, amazing hiking opportunity ( isolated beautiful village top of the mountain ), crystal clear rivers and ancient temples.
Volunteers are provided a host family to stay with and basic traditional food. Host families are very friendly and welcome the opportunity to practice their English skills as well. Most host families have children who attend the center, and are excited to practice their English skills and teach volunteers some Sinhalese. The location of the home stay is very peaceful and calm.
There are many interesting places to visit close to our village. Some of which include the elephant orphanage and safari park, Yala sanctuary, beach of down south, highest waterfall in Sri Lanka and other water falls. There are many beautiful mountains to hike.
