I spent a month this winter with Vil in Þykkvibær, and the experience was simply wonderful. The location itself is stunning, a beautiful landscape surrounding a quiet, peaceful little village. Vil is an incredibly helpful, cool, and open-minded host. There were other Workawayers there as well, and the vibe was great, we all got along really well. The work was very diverse and changed from day to day, so there was always something new to do and learn, which kept things exciting. One huge plus was the flexibility: whenever I wanted to visit a nearby sight or explore, I could borrow a car to get there. Additionally, there’s a sports hall in the village that we could use for free, which was awesome. I never went hungry, not even once! There was always plenty of food, and often I could even eat delicious meals at the restaurant. Vil’s claim that you can leave something lasting behind is absolutely true. I had the chance to restore a complete drum kit, adding to the musical arsenal in the restaurant, which felt really rewarding. If you are looking for an adventurous Workaway experience where you will never be bored, I highly recommend staying with Vil!

I spent the whole month of September here, and even though months have passed, I feel like I left a part of myself in that hostel, along with a deep nostalgia for those green and lively days. I warmly thank the staff and the other volunteers for this experience and hope to have another opportunity to return. A small practical note: for groceries, I recommend ordering directly from Tesco and splitting the delivery costs with the other volunteers if you are placing a single order for everyone.

We spent one month there and were very warmly welcomed. It was our first Workaway experience, and it was truly perfect. We worked every morning, which left us free in the afternoons. The work was not difficult, and it was very pleasant to be able to help and take care of the animals. Kim was very generous with us and always made sure we had everything we needed. We became very attached to the animals, and we already miss them. I had the chance to go horse riding several times, which was a real pleasure. The couple often drove us either to the train station or into town so we could visit the area. We even all went to a restaurant together once. This stay will remain a very beautiful memory. Super séjour chez Géraldine. Elle propose des tâches diverses, vous trouverez facilement quelque chose qui vous correspond. Il était très facile de créer un lien avec ses enfants, ils sont marrant. J'ai même eu la chance de rencontrer des personnes de sa famille généreuses et spontanées :) Il y a des balades sympa à faire autour et une forêt. Sincèrement, j'ai passé un super séjour, merci encore !

My partner Claire and I had a wonderful experience staying with and working for Sarah. Getting to spend time with her animals is an amazing perk of this job, as Poppy, Tia, Charlie, and Korkie showed us immediate affection. Sarah was very accommodating, giving us every resource necessary for our success. The work environment was relaxed, we were primarily just working in her yard doing some landscaping projects. The Torrox region is so gorgeous, we can't recommend staying there enough. Sarah's neighborhood is a beautiful community and we had the pleasure of meeting her neighbors for a thanksgiving meal. We can both confidently say we are so glad that we met Sarah and had the chance to converse about the world with her. She is kind, intellegent, and worldly, and a fantastic host in all aspects of a workaway stay. Thank you Sarah for a beautiful experience, we can't wait to reconnect another time.

As our last hosting period before Christmas to wrap up 2025, our 5 weeks spent with Emily and Ash was the perfect end to the year for us all. Everything we could hope for a workaway experience to be, valuable help, great support, great company and chats, lovely bonds and friendships for us and the kids. There was a genuine sense that we could depend on help from Emily and Ash if we needed help at anytime, always going above and beyond with their kindness to be there for us if they noticed we needed help. No jobs were a problem, responsible, trustworthy, hard working, and reliable, and always a great attitude and sense of humor and fun. Thankyou Emily and Ash for all your hard work and great company, we were delighted to host you and wish you all the very best in the future of your workaway adventures. Highly recommend, they are a great team!

I had a wonderful and memorable experience staying at Cara and Cory's place. As soon as I arrived Cara made me feel at home and was super welcome. My goal for this trip was to be surrounded by nature, be somewhere remote, decompress and relax from my previous stressful job in Berlin. This was the break and chapter I needed. For two months I had the joy of teaching Kaya in English, Social Studies, Anatomy and Environmental Science. We also did some fun design tasks, such as brainstorming and doing logo sketches together. She was a really sweet student who has a deep passion for horses and many other animals. In my freetime, I enjoyed the beautiful nearby beach, Playa Preciosa, went on walks and spent time with mostly Kaya and Cara. During leisure time, I would continue some of my own design projects, research and be inspired or go out and take pictures with my camera. Sometimes, I would join them for a drive into town to go shopping or when they went to visit Kaya’s horse Sunny, a very gentle yet playful horse. Such a cutie! It was cool to take pictures and videos of Kaya riding on the beach and watch her practice. I would also take some of their dogs on walks. Rollo, Obie, and Nati were the absolute cutest dogs ever. I got so used to them, I already miss them! I’m so happy that I’ve gotten to know this family, they are such a welcoming and super-hardworking family and I couldn’t be happier that I got to spend the last two months there. I have learned a lot about myself and had the chance to grow as a person. Putting yourself in a drastically different environment can have many perks and learning lessons. Thank you for everything and for trusting me Cara. I wish you guys all the best, we’ll stay in touch!

I spent two peaceful and comfortable weeks at Caroline's house. She is an amazing, inspiring and courageous woman! The locals in the village are also very friendly towards foreigners. You can enjoy excellent coffee in beautiful seafront locations at reasonable prices. The students are all nice and highly motivated to learn! Classes usually last two and a half hours, both before and after lunch. Caroline cooks delicious local dishes and is always ready to help with organisational issues. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to try their hand at teaching while living by the sea.

Laura is exactly what you’re looking for in a helper. She’s very friendly, chatty, and always in a good mood. She’s up for anything. No matter what it is. Work days, play days. She’s happy being busy or just chillin. Laura is very good with the animals and very good at spotting problems. When I went back to work she was happy to step up and help keep the others on track. It can be a bit confusing here with so many animals… many that need daily supplements, vitamins, extra care etc. She never forgot what was what. She’s mature, responsible and definitely has common sense. That magic quality we’re all looking for as hosts. She really and truly loves animals and is happy to do whatever it takes to keep them healthy. Even if it means changing a horse’s bandages in the dark in -40. She doesn’t quit until everything’s done. I really appreciated her hard work and dedication to keeping this farm running smoothly. It didn’t go unnoticed. Laura is definitely welcome back anytime. We really hope that she comes back in the summer so she can experience this place without 2 feet of snow.

I will always keep Madli, Oliver, and their wonderfully creative daughter Hele in my heart and memories as my true Estonian family. From the first day they welcomed me as a friend, I immediately discovered how open-hearted, kind, and generous they are. They always communicated clearly with me about the tasks and expectations and were very flexible with the schedule, so I could easily adapt it to my research. I am so grateful that they were such a big help with my sauna research (which was the reason I came to Estonia). I am also grateful for sooo many other moments: for teaching me how to do some works in and around the house and how to make fire professionally ;), for playing hide-and-seek or dancing with Hele, and for spending time with their lovely dog Ku. Thank you for the long walks in the forest, for having sauna together, for yoga sessions, playing vinyl records, all the conversations and sharing, and for offering me a safe place to be during my travels. With them, I felt that the Workaway experience truly had another dimension—not only helping each other, but also getting to know each other’s lives, having a meaningful cultural exchange, and learning from one another. I also felt how beautiful it is to be truly accepted into a foreign family. Thank you for all the laughs and funny moments, for your creativity, for your sense of humour, as well as for the depth you brought into our daily lives. I truly wish you many more amazing Workaway experiences, and I hope that someday we meet again. :)

I stayed here for about a week from the end of the year. Even though I contacted you suddenly, I am really grateful that you welcomed me. The facility was very interesting, but this time I stayed in the mountains. The air in the mountains was very fresh, and it was a wonderful environment. Everyone, especially Mr. Romy was very kind to me. At night, we ate together and they taught me about the Philippines. On the last day, they even took me to the market. I really enjoyed spending the New Year in the Philippines with these people, which is not an experience you can easily have! I recommend this place for anyone who likes meditation and nature! Thank you so much to everyone until the very end!

Thanks to Lobke and Onno, our project made a huge progress and it was very satisfied. They mainly helped to reconstruct a house deck. Even it was sometimes laborious work, they finished nicely. Without Onno's physical power, it would have taken a very long time to complete. They didn't just follow instructions; they had their own ideas about how things could be improved. And that was also a great help for us. We also enjoyed talking many things with them in dinner time. Thank you so much for coming and hope to see you again!

I spent two absolutely amazing months with this family in Ireland, and this experience will stay with me forever as a truly meaningful human adventure. From the very first day, I felt warmly welcomed and surrounded by kindness and care. During the first few weeks, I stayed in a very comfortable converted container, fully equipped with everything I needed, which allowed me to have my own space and privacy. Later on, I moved into the family home, staying in the guest bedroom with an extremely comfortable bed, always with great respect for my privacy. My tasks were varied and enjoyable: housekeeping, a lot of cooking, helping the girls with their sports activities, gardening, bringing in wood for the fireplace, and tidying up. Everything was adapted to my preferences and abilities, never restrictive, and always done in a spirit of trust and exchange. I also had plenty of free time, which allowed me to go for walks with the dog, enjoy the beautiful surroundings, and even travel for a weekend in Dublin. The balance between work and personal time was truly perfect. Meals were healthy, balanced, and varied: vegetables, fruits, meat, fish, dairy products, and delicious homemade bread baked by Richard. I also cooked a lot using Claire’s recipes, which helped me learn so much. I genuinely felt fully integrated into the family. I accompanied the girls to their sports activities, attended many of their performances (piano, singing, football matches), and even had the chance to go milking cows on a farm thanks to Richard. Every Friday, I enjoyed a very relaxing yoga session with Claire, which quickly became a special moment of the week. I also met many of their friends and shared wonderful, convivial meals together. Cultural exchange was present every day: the girls taught me many English words, and in return I taught them French. Richard and Claire are truly admirable parents—kind, warm, and deeply family-oriented. Bea, Eliza, and Isabel are three wonderfully well-educated, curious, and funny girls who taught me so much and, above all, made me laugh a lot. We shared so many beautiful moments together. I am leaving with unforgettable memories, deep gratitude, and the feeling of having been part of their family. I would recommend this experience without hesitation ❤️

Julia and Christoph are a creative couple that I experienced as attentive, social, fun, conscious, organized and warmhearted. Still so grateful to all the energy you put in physical work, support and in creativity. They shared a TRE session and a special yoga workshop at sunset, performed a rap act about plants in the kitchen and.. the signature sound games we made up together are still going around here after almost a year! Precious memories!

I loved every second of Julia's and Santiago's time at my place for two months. I feel like I have connected with a sister and a brother. They were very calm, very friendly and willing to finish stuff to do in the house even though I did not have the energy to contribute at that moment. The kitchen and the house was always clean. Common areas was always tidy and cozy. They also valued and respected my personal space. We even had a cozy, warm Christmas dinner, where I wanted to provide a family environment for those who couldn't be with their families to celebrate holy vacations. All of my friends who were invited loved them a bunch. Timon and I miss them a lot. Especially Timon! He was confused when he suddenly was alone at home without no humans to play with him. Lol! Hope to see you soon! Highly recommend them as a host and a friend. :)
