    Description

We’re a family of 5 that live in three different towns and have a new business in a small farm village in South Iceland, called Þykkvibær.

In Þykkvibær lives Villi (Icelandic version of Will). He runs a glamping dome stay and a restaurant with two brilliant coworkers that live in another building on-site. In Hella (17km from Þykkvibær) lives Dana and our two sons, Sólon and Sesar. Dana is a singing teacher at the local music school. She is also a brilliant singer songwriter and plays both the piano and guitar. In Akureyri (North Iceland) lives Bríet, Villi’s daughter. We’re often scattered all over the country as we have a lot of family up North.

The place our WorkAway would stay is in Þykkvibær. It is a 4 bedroom detached house. Villi has one room there when he has to work. The house needs a bit of TLC so if you’re a handy DIY-er, you could find plenty of fun projects to do. There are also always some DIY projects going on at the farm as we do the majority of the work ourselves.

We could also ask you to drive our boys around after school, pick them up from sports or from a friends house. We have an extra car (company car) that you could use for your own little day trips when the opportunity arises.

We’re looking for WorkAway-ers that can stay at least a month. Time really does fly by and we want people to get to know a young family’s hectic Icelandic life but also be able to explore the country with us or on their own.

Workaway disclaimer below since we run on-site business:
**Please note: we do not ask for help in our businesses - only around our house. No work will take place where paying guests are residing.**

We lived in the UK for 2/3 years so our boys are fluent in English which is really good for anyone wanting to learn Icelandic because they love to chat. We’re both from the North of Iceland, born and raised, one in a big town (big in Iceland), and the other on a farm so we do all the traditional Icelandic things and we’re happy to share the joy with others!
