We are quite a big International hostel which is also a registered charity, situated deep in the Wicklow Hills. We have 133 beds and we have visitors from all over the world who come to stay with us. If you love the outdoors and enjoy fantastic scenery then this is the place for you.
Covering almost 20,000 hectares (that's 58 times bigger than Central Park!) - you will not be bored, but make sure to bring your walking boots.
Glendalough is very amazing but we feel it's only fair to let you know the closest village of Laragh is 2 km away. It has a small store where you can buy food and wine. It also has an ATM machine.
However if you are suffering from Cabin Fever you can take The Glendalough Bus on your next day off and you will be in Dublin in just over one hour.

Glendalough is situated in the beautiful Garden county of Wicklow. It is the site of an ancient Monastic Settlement dating back to the 4th Century. It is steeped in History and many of the ancient ruins are still in tact including a Round Tower, which is one of the finest examples in Ireland. Volunteers will be able to learn all about the history of Monastic site during their stay.
There are also the ruins of an old mining village in the valley which can be explored and learned about.
Here at the hostel we speak English and a small amount of Gaelic and all our staff enjoy conversing and helping each other to improve. There are many wonderful walking trails in Glendalough, the most famous being "The Spinc". Our volunteers enjoy walking these very much and can help advise our guests on the walks.
Also we are lucky enough to be situated in the Middle of the National Park and we are a stop on the famous "Wicklow Way Walk".
Our permanent team members are Trish, Andy and Kate and we strive to help our volunteers in any way needed.
We are looking for independent, friendly open minded young people. We are situated in a rural area with only 2 buses in and out per day so a love of nature will be a bonus. We prefer our volunteers to be 21 year + who have had a little experience looking after themselves! You will have 2 days off together per week. Weekends (Saturdays/Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays) are our busiest times so you will usually not have these days off. We ask that our volunteers stay a minimum of 4 weeks.
We have a few bikes at the hostel so you can explore the area either on bike or on foot. In summertime you can cool down with a swim in one of our lakes or rivers.
We ask for 15 hours help per week over 5 days. Help comprises of housekeeping, cleaning, maintenance help and basic gardening.
The roster is set from Monday to Sunday and is usually prepared on a Sat or Sun so you can plan your days off. Any special request for additional or specific time off is always accommodated.
We are a very busy hostel. We have a great work ethic and we have great fun and laughs whilst doing our every day chores.
We look forward to hosting you.
We apologise but due to the large amount of applications to our project, it is impossible to answer each and every application. Thank you for your understanding.
You will be accommodated in shared accommodation with other staff.
We cannot provide private rooms for couples but they are welcome to share with other staff.
Continental Breakfast is included (self-service) every day and dinner is provided if and when we are catering for hostel guests. However, on days which we are not catering, staff must cater for themselves (our staff usually share the cost of the food and the cooking together).
Many great friendships are formed at Glendalough and the partings are very sad. We highly recommend that you join us and experience an unforgettable time that will stay in your heart forever!
