I had a really fun stay with Joanna, Didier, Elisabeth and the kids. Argelès-sur-mer is a beautiful area . It's perfect for appreciating nature all around you. The family also took good care of me. They were mindful of my vegetarian diet and very hospitable. I improved my French, especially thanks to Joanna teaching me new words every day. This was my first Workaway experience and I want to thank you all for making me feel so welcomed. It was a pleasure to get to know the whole family. You are all wonderful.

Beautiful location, AMAZING dogs, great food and wonderful company, the best work away ever? We spent two weeks here - it was so amazing to start every morning with a long hike with the dogs, all amazing and loving in their own ways. We also got to help out at a sterilisation clinic which was great experience. We enjoyed our time with Krizsztina, she was so welcoming and a great chef - we enjoyed our dinners together, especially one evening cooking over the fire with the dogs, beautiful!

I spent two weeks here and had an amazing experience. The place is very remote, deep in the jungle in the south of Costa Rica, waking up to monkeys and being surrounded by nature was unforgettable. Colin is a very generous and attentive host. He made sure we were always comfortable, cooked great meals, and took us surfing and boogie boarding. It really felt like being welcomed into his home. The work was mostly construction (we helped build stairs), which was interesting, even if it can be hot. The tents are spacious, comfortable, and well set up. Overall a 5/5 experience. I definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a unique and immersive stay.

I stayed with Hiroshi-san for one week in August. Although there was no boat-building to experience, Hiroshi-san made sure to provide a range of cultural activities that contributed to a very memorable time overall. Hiroshi-san is a very inquisitive, disciplined and particular individual who appreciates clear communication. During my week’s stay, I helped to clean his house and supported with his gallery bar (one of his many creative projects). I met other local artists and craftsmen, including furniture makers, potters and boat-builders, and Hiroshi-san’s local kendo club and former workawayers. We travelled a lot by car throughout Okayama and even up to Tottori, so I was able to see much of the landscape in this region. I really appreciated this as it was my first time in rural Japan, and Hiroshi-san was very open in sharing his upbringing and his life experience, providing a real insight into local life. He is a good conversation partner, and in our time together we discussed a variety of topics, including history, culture and tradition; political and social issues; our careers; language exchange; music and art. My trip was very timely as I had the rare opportunity to participate in a workshop to create an Okinawan style of funadama (船霊) by Japan’s first female sabani boat-builder 國岡 恭子 Kyoko Kunioka. I also had the privilege of sailing into the Seto Inland Sea with ‘Jomon-san’ (雨宮国広 Kunihiro Amemiya) and learned of his incredible project, ‘Minna ミンナ’! These were truly very special experiences that I will never forget. I look forward to keeping in touch with Hiroshi-san, and the many others I have since met -- じゃあまたね!

Kathleen and Philippe are incredibly friendly and kind-hearted people. I had a fantastic time staying with them. We cooked together every day, which always led to great conversations and lots of laughter. I also helped them with gardening. During our outings together, they showed me some amazing places, and I met some really nice people. I’m going to miss them both very much, and I highly recommend that everyone stop by and lend a hand.

Our experience with Chris was wonderful. She cooked amazing food; I still haven't forgotten the vegetarian lasagna. Doing yoga together was also a real pleasure. Thank you for being our guest. We hope to see you again.

As soon as I get to the ranch, felt immediately at home, warmly welcomed by Loraine, Jack and their fun kids. I knew I was at the right place when we started to talk about NBA for two hours and my first night ! Loraine and Jack are good communicator, flexible and caring hosts. I always did my tasks with pleasure, learning A LOT from their knowledge and skills, especially about tree planting and preservation ! The cultural exchange part was next-level for me through all our discussions, extremely grateful for that. Big up to the kids/siblings and the local baristas in the studio! Love you my American family 🫶🫶🫶 !!!

Denisa was an amazing volunteer to have here, and we truly enjoyed hosting her 😊 She’s friendly, respectful, and brings a very positive and relaxed energy to the space. During her stay, she supported us with daily tasks and was always willing to help when needed. She got along really well with both the team and the guests, making everything feel easy and natural. Something we especially appreciated was how open she was to connecting with everyone — we had several conversations in both Spanish and English, which created a really nice dynamic and helped others practice as well. Overall, it was a great experience having her with us. We’re very grateful for her time and would absolutely recommend her to any host looking for a kind, reliable, and easygoing volunteer 🙌

Abrazo gigante "Good woman" 😉

Lovely experience. Miranda displayed great work ethic from day one. She is well travelled and offers the opportunity for many interesting conversations. As far as children she is a star, builds great rapport and great care, while still maintaining discipline. While she was here, she spent her extra/free time creating a beautiful garden. The avid multitasker, while our son was sleeping, she would get to work putting things away and cooking. Her cooking was incredible. Both tasty and healthy. Thanks so much for your time with us K :).

My experience with Ale was very nice! He helped me a lot with different things in the house. It was great that he could work on his own and in most cases knew hot to do it, I didn't even need to explain too much. He also gave me some ideas for things. He was very respectful and willing to help in the house. He also kept the place clean and tidy. He stayed a bit more than the agreed because we ended up doing more projects. I just wish we could have shared some more conversations about life in general... but maybe next time!!! Good luck, Ale, and thanks for everything!!

I feel so grateful for having spent 4 weeks at Kris’s ! Kris is a 6-star generous and caring host. I spent at first ~20 days and came back an extra week because I loved the place, the tasks and the warmful atmosphere of the Nelson village. I personally was there during colder weather and was mostly splitting/stacking wood. The accommodation was cosy, I felt super safe and comfy. If you like to work outside, being connected and surrounded by nature and wanna learn something about gardening/composting, this experience is top-tier. I also learned a lot about sobriety and sustainability. I truly appreciate all my discussions with Kris. She’s super smart, open minded and full of wisdom, I learned a lot from her ! Thanks again for everything 🙏 ps: I miss the cooked sweet potatoes in the oven stove !!

Having Joanne and Matthew was an absolute privilege. As highly experienced Workawayers, they brought a rare level of awareness and emotional intelligence, ensuring everyone felt included and happy. They are incredibly respectful guests, always keeping the house tidy and sharing their talents in the kitchen with delicious communal meals. On the work front, they were resourceful and proactive, always finding solutions and moving projects forward with ease. We trusted them so completely that we were happy to give up our own bedroom to ensure they had the privacy and comfort they deserved. Beyond their help, their story is deeply inspiring. Having traveled for over 10 years, they truly embrace life to the fullest and made us rethink our own perspectives on living. From hiking the local forests to exploring Nemi and Genzano, they made the most of every moment. Thank you both for your help, your presence, and the inspiration you left behind!
