    Description

    Hello lovely travelers!

I’m seeking a reliable, animal-loving couple or two solo travelers applying together (age 20+) to help care for my four dogs during high season at Lake Atitlán, Guatemala.

During this busy time, I work more than usual and need help walking the dogs each morning, assisting with grocery runs, and occasionally cooking or helping with household chores.

    Lodging:
Volunteers normally stay in the pink casita, which sleeps two and has a large deck with a beautiful lake view, tiled floor, and access to a shared kitchen and bathroom in the main house.

Occasionally, if it’s a better fit and the schedule allows, I may place volunteers in the red casita, which has its own private kitchen and bathroom. This decision depends on timing, occupancy, and the needs of the household — I’ll always make that decision with everyone’s comfort in mind. A washing machine is available on site.

    About the dogs:
Yovi (9–10), Matilda (3), Chad (2), and Huevo (1) are a joyful, well-mannered pack. They love long hikes and off-leash play once they reach safe open spaces. Volunteers must be comfortable handling dogs on-leash through town and confident about intervening if another dog or animal appears. (Two of them will chase tuk-tuks or motorcycles if not managed properly.)

    Daily rhythm:
I provide everything you need for breakfast, and we share dinner together; lunch is your responsibility.
Work averages five hours a day, five days a week (some days longer, some shorter).
I ask for at least a one-month commitment — the dogs bond deeply and thrive with consistency.
On your days off, there are many places to explore around the lake. Breakfast and dinner are still provided on those days.

    Our household:
This is a calm, drug-free home focused on healing, animal care, and contribution. Please apply only if you’re genuinely ready to live respectfully, wake up early for morning hikes with the dogs, and participate with awareness. If you’re seeking to party, isolate, or self-medicate, this isn’t the right fit — and that’s perfectly okay.

    Health and fitness reminder:
Travel illnesses and injuries happen! However, if a volunteer is unable to participate in the daily help for more than two days, the arrangement shifts from a work exchange to a guest stay with a modest daily rate to cover food and lodging until recovery or departure.

    A note on independence:
This placement suits emotionally mature, self-sufficient travelers who enjoy quiet surroundings, responsibility, and connection with animals. If you’re traveling with a partner or friend, both should be equally committed to the work and rhythm of life here.

If this speaks to you, please reach out with a short note about your background, age, experience with dogs, and why this kind of environment appeals to you.

    Many blessings,
    Krisztina & the Pack

Hello friends. I have a property at Lake Atitlan Guatemala, with 3 buildings on it. The work available is volunteering at the dog shelter in the next town which is a 1/2 hour walk away, or a 10 min tuctuc ride away.

During high tourist season I have the pink casita available - it is a large tiled room with two single beds, or one king sized bed for a couple (the beds can be put together to make a big bed). It has a huge sunny deck with chairs and a table. The kitchen and bathroom are shared with me (one person).
I cook dinner and we eat together. I will buy you what you like to have for breakfast and workawayers make their own breakfast.

In low tourist season I also have a fully equipped red casita with its own kitchen and bathroom. The meal arrangements are the same as described above.

There is a LOT to do in the area. From restaurants, cafes, classes, shopping, to healing and personal development seminars, retreats, facilitators, hiking, swimming, enjoying the amazing view of the lake. Travel around the lake on the public boat system to explore the many towns around the lake.

I have reliable Wifi 24 hours a day, plus I use a signal booster. Guatemala has only 3G in this region. Occasionally, when there is a power outage in the town that has the tower there may be outages, but it's rare.
