    Description

Living at the Palace: which is a lived in, relaxed home, but it is also a massive work in progress. Most of the time it is quiet and peaceful here, but you need to be okay with a bit of grit. This is an old factory and we are always working on it, so things are often unfinished. You will be walking long distances between the kitchen, the bathroom, and your bedroom. We use compost toilets and the systems are simple. It suits people who like a calm atmosphere and their own space, but who are also hardy and comfortable with a more basic, rugged way of living.

We are friendly and grounded, but we take the work seriously. We do not micro manage or hand out daily to do lists. We look for people who are self motivated and can see what needs doing and just get it done. You should be comfortable with the shift from a quiet residential day to the energy of an event day. We value a proactive work ethic and clear, direct communication.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

This is a chance to stay in a unique property and see how a community run venue actually operates. If you like the idea of a beautiful, historic space with plenty of personality and a mix of quiet time and solid project work, you will fit in well.

    Help

We need people who enjoy being useful and like getting their hands dirty.
    • Property Projects: We always have active building, painting, or organisation tasks on the go.
    • The Land: Working in the vegetable gardens, the orchard, and keeping the five acres looked after and happy.
    • Event Prep: Helping us occasionally prep the venue by cleaning and resetting the space so it is ready for guests.
    • Daily Flow: Keeping shared areas like the kitchen functional and tidy for the whole crew.

    Plus lots more!

    What else ...

We live an hour from the beach; Apollo Bay, The Great Ocean Road, The Twelve Apostles, Lorne, etc.

We live 10 minutes from Colac, a small city with all your typical shops, supplies, and public transport. There are 3 cities all within an hour of us; Geelong, Warrnambool, and Ballarat. And we are just under 2 hours away from Melbourne.

The Otway’s is a half-hour drive from us and there are endless bush walks and waterfalls to explore! The Grampians is a 2-hour drive from us but well worth the trip.

We have a lot of animals on the property already, so prefer not to have extra at the property. However, this is flexible so get in touch and we can discuss individual circumstances.
