Trish and Riccardo were welcoming and generous host, providing everything for a comfortable stay. Trish is a very kind and polite person, enjoyable conversations and sharing life experiences. The property is quite big within a nice setting. Tasks were varied but very manageable. I helped with a few DIY and maintenance/fixing tasks. I would have liked a more structured/list of tasks given for the day to be more productive and also have some free time in the afternoon to explore the area, but because of late start in the morning, sporadic tasks and stopping for lunch, we were just working and no free time left in the day to do a walk or exploring. Food was nice, Trish cooks delicious healthy food. I would recommend to any workawayer planning to visit.

We stayed with Ingrid for 10 days. We both have prior experience with horses, which was one of the main reasons we chose this Workaway. On the first day, Ingrid worked alongside us and explained the tasks. We fed the horses together, cleaned the paddocks, and she showed us how things were usually done. From the second day onward, however, Ingrid no longer participated in the daily horse care. Feeding the horses and cleaning manure are already very time-consuming tasks, and while this could reasonably constitute the main volunteer work, we were also asked to complete many additional tasks on the side. We did not have any days off during our stay, and it seemed to be considered normal that we were fully responsible for the feeding and cleaning of the horses. For us, Workaway is meant to be a cultural exchange and a volunteer experience, which implies reasonable working hours, rest days, and a fair balance between giving and receiving. Unfortunately, this balance was missing in our case. In her profile, Ingrid mentions that she eats mostly vegetarian and reassures volunteers about sufficient protein intake. This did not reflect our experience. We had to wait five days before being offered an egg, which made meals feel nutritionally insufficient given the physical workload. On the positive side, Ingrid took us horseback riding, and the horses themselves are wonderful. We truly enjoyed spending time with them, which was the highlight of our stay. However, overall, we felt more like free labor than volunteers taking part in an exchange. Ingrid mentioned several times that we were “lucky” she had accepted our application for two weeks, whereas we believe Workaway is a mutual exchange, and hosts are equally fortunate to receive motivated volunteer help. At the end of our stay, we were not thanked for our work, which reinforced this feeling. We have extensive volunteering experience through Workaway, WWOOF, and other platforms, and we were genuinely excited about a horse-related experience. Unfortunately, despite the appealing profile, this turned out to be our least positive volunteer experience. After reading previous reviews, we noticed that other volunteers have reported similar experiences. We would therefore strongly recommend future volunteers to communicate very clearly with Ingrid in advance about expectations, working hours, days off, and boundaries. Without clear agreements, there is a real risk that the workload will become excessive and that your experience may be disappointing.

I stayed at two of Sadhu’s properties in Kanyakumari (The Sparrow) and Thuckalay for a little over two weeks and had an amazing time in both places. Sadhu and his family were some of the best hosts I had in my travels and they made sure I was feeling at home all of the time. They attended and helped in great length and provided a bicycle so I was able to scout even further. I helped with taking pictures and videos for their social media and worked on a small video promoting the area for tourists. Thanks to great communication and lengthy interesting conversations, I was able to explore the area to highlight what the region has to offer and I hope the final result of the video will attract more people and travellers to these amazing places. Thank you Sadhu, Carolina and their two wonderful and curious kids Rafael and Emily, and to Roshan (Sparrow manager) for this wonderful stay

We spent a bit over 2 weeks with Hollie and Steve and had a wonderfull time. They were very welcoming and made us feel like at home. We mainly worked alone after beeing told what there is to do. We got to decide very freely how and when to do something and they were always eager to tell us how happy they are with our work. Theyr property is beutifull and we already miss their two dogs Chopper and Duke. Playing ball with Chopper and having him by your side working was always great fun. All in all we can really recomend this Workaway for everyone who likes beeing independant and exploring the surrounding arrea. All the best to you Hollie and Stave and thanks for a great stay!

As soon as I met Damon he instantly made me feel welcome and at home. His place is something special and it inspired me to contribute as much as I could. He is such a kind and understanding person, I truly appreciate that. We had lots of nice chats together, food, sharing company with himself and his family as I was lucky enough to be there over the Christmas period. You're such a beacon of light Damon that really welcomes the sense of community. You and Pip are a delight, I loved taking her for a walk and bonding with her to, bless her <3 I would definitely reccomend Damon's place, please dont be afraid to get stuck in :)

This community is a place I didn’t want to leave and where I know I will return. The children are wonderful. Their smiles, curiosity, and inclusiveness made me so happy. I thank them all for taking me by the hand and letting me be part of their world. I am deeply grateful to “mom” and “dad” the parents of all the children. I thank them for creating this place for the children, for supporting them, and for sharing it with me. They have created a happy place. They asked nothing from me except to be myself and to express my abilities. There is no separation between work and free time here, only sharing, play, and collaboration. The children are eager to learn and wanted me to teach them how to draw. We played guitar together, played “zombie,” cleaned up trash, and shared meals. They taught me the Thai way of life: calm, slow, and full of smiles.

We stayed with Sofi for several weeks, and she consistently demonstrated a professional and positive presence in both the home and school environments. Spent a few weeks here in quiet season, helping out with some gardening tasks and painting the building. Fabio was a very fair host, friendly guy and cooked some amazing dinners for us. I got to explore the local area in my free time with some amazing scenery and nice cafes. I also met some of the neighbours and local community who were all very friendly. Hope you are well Fabio, Ciao

We enjoyed having Astrid stay and help us with the variety of tasks which she did well and graciously. Her sewing skills were greatly appreciated. She did the work and took initiative to do other things as well. I can recommend having her stay.

We had a great time volunteering here! We came during the rainy season, for one month. Before arriving, we had a pre-screening call with a team member to make sure we fully understood the expectations of the roles and were ready to commit. This was really helpful to make sure we could ask all of our questions, talk about the workload and feel ready to commit to the dogs and the team. When we worked at Indies, there were around 200 dogs and our work schedule was from 7ish-1ish (depending on the workload). Every morning, you are assigned to your dog section and are given any additional important information for the day. The majority of the core team are either local Mauritians, French, or Swiss. French is their main language for communication, but also speak English to communicate information. After the work day, we'd often travel around the South of the island to explore the wonderful wildlife and food scene. Each week you get two consecutive days off which is great to plan some adventures farther from the refuge! We miss all of the dogs and are very grateful for our time there. It made a lasting impression on what a life of service and community truly means.

Better late than never! It's been a couple of years since I spent just over a month here helping at the shcool. The whole experience was really enjoyable, we were very well looked after here and I felt very much at home the whole time. I met some great people and got to explore the local area and culture, and the hosts were really helpful in organising activities like skiing, hiking and taking us to take part in an orienteering race. I still often think about my time here and how special it was. It opened my eyes to what nice country Czech is and went on to explore more of the country after I left. Thank you guys! Hope you are well

This was my first Workaway experience, and I couldn’t have asked for a better one. I stayed for two months, from November to January, and during this time I was hosted by Patricio and Phoebe and their two children. Patricio is a calm, honest, and straightforward person. From the very beginning, he was always clear about the projects and tasks we workawayers would be involved in, while also leaving plenty of room for creativity and personal initiative. Phoebe, on the other hand, is a truly kind soul — always approachable, supportive, and easy to talk to. Together, they create a very welcoming and relaxed environment that immediately makes you feel at home. Since it was the low season in Dénia, the main projects I worked on were DIY tasks and repainting parts of the house. The work was well balanced and fair, and there was always a good atmosphere while doing it. One of the biggest surprises for me was discovering wave surfing for the first time — something I fell in love with instantly — and also learning the basics of wingfoiling. During winter, there are very few people around, so you can often enjoy the sea and the beach completely on your own (or often with Donna). These moments were truly special and unforgettable. I would like to thank not only Patricio and Phoebe, but also his parents Paco and his wife, Raoni the kite instructor, and my fellow workawayers Max, Sho, Yordano, and Nacho for making these two months such an incredible and memorable experience. P.S. I truly hope you’ll get the chance to try Patricio’s BBQ chicken — it’s hands down the best I’ve ever had.

Micaela and John opened their hearts and home and I felt so welcome and safe! Their home is beautiful! I very much enjoyed getting the sewing machine out to hem gorgeous linen curtains, helped harvest vegetables from their garden. I also helped with wallpapering one of the most gorgeous living rooms I’ve ever seen. The food we ate was delicious and the produce all came from local farmers and their vegetable garden! So generous! I love the community vibe they have created, sharing meals around a large dinning table together was a highlight. It was so much fun and made making friends really easy!! There is also lots to do in your free time. It was summer so I enjoyed the pool and made use of the gym. I also did a day trip to do some hiking on one of the weekends! I already can't wait to come back!! Thank you Micaela and John!
