From the very beginning, my time at the house felt like coming home. Cesar and his family give you such a warm welcome. Cesar is a great surf instructor who wants you to get the most out of yourself so you can become independent. That was really helpful for me as a beginner, and I feel like I learned a lot and pushed myself beyond my limits in a relatively short time. Thanks for the support. We always eat meals together with the other volunteers and guests, which creates a very family-like atmosphere. The tasks are simple, and it was a lot of fun to cook together, for example. Cesar is a great host, and he makes sure you’re always taken care of. He even went out of his way to make sure I had a wonderful time on my birthday. Huanchaco is a great place to experience authentic surf culture in Peru. Thank you I’ll miss you all.

I had the pleasure of hosting Ramon during his stay with us, and I can highly recommend him to any future host, employer, or volunteer project. Ramon is a very interested, thoughtful, and reflective young man who was genuinely eager to learn and engage with the people and realities around him. We had many stimulating discussions about development cooperation, cultural differences, and social challenges. I particularly appreciated his critical yet balanced perspective and his willingness to reflect deeply on what he experienced. He fully immersed himself in our work and community life, showing flexibility, initiative, and a positive attitude. Whether helping with practical tasks, supporting activities at the kindergarten, documenting projects through photography, or assisting wherever needed, he always contributed enthusiastically and reliably. Beyond the work itself, it was a pleasure to spend time together exploring the beautiful Eastern Highlands. We shared many memorable moments, meaningful conversations, and wonderful experiences that enriched both our lives. A special highlight was the week when his girlfriend Nelly joined us. We thoroughly enjoyed having her with us, and she fit naturally into our community. Their visit together brought even more joy, laughter, and positive energy to our daily life. Ramon's openness, curiosity, respect for different cultures, and genuine interest in people made him a valued member of our community. We loved having him with us and would warmly welcome both Ramon and Nelly back at any time. I can wholeheartedly recommend Ramon. He brings not only practical support but also thoughtful reflection, meaningful engagement, and a warm and friendly personality that makes him a pleasure to work and spend time with.

We had such a wonderful time with Francesca, Matteo and Pietro! We really felt at home from the very first moment, as if we were staying with old friends. They are so laid-back, easy-going and genuinely friendly. Francesca and Matteo let us work at our own pace and the work we did was varied and interesting. Their house is very special and sweet, set among a beautiful garden spread on various terraces, and it feels like a little and tranquil world of its own overlooking the sea. We had a joyful time together, over interesting conversations, around the table or at the beach, and our sons also shared some great moments playing together (grazie Pietro for teaching us this cool finger game!). Thank you so much for such a pleasant and lovely stay. We're really looking forward to meeting you all again.

Rose was pleasant to be with, she contributed well in medipootation, baking and making FUDGE! (for all sweet tooths...) Although young, Rose already has a good knowledge of life, the universe and everything, so we had good fun with discussions in the evenings. I wonder when she will be back, for more snow maybe? (for the "poop scoop duties"...?) Extra thanks for all the drawings in the guestbook :-) and good luck with all your travels!

I had the most incredible experience au pairing for this family in the beautiful seaside town of Santa Margherita Ligure, Italy. From the very beginning, I felt welcomed, supported, and genuinely treated as part of the family. Moving to another country can feel daunting, but they made the transition so easy and ensured I felt comfortable and at home from day one. My role involved helping their son improve his English through everyday conversations, activities, games, and spending time together. It was such a rewarding experience to watch their confidence grow over the weeks and to see them become more comfortable communicating in English. He was a joy to be around curious, kind, energetic, and always eager to learn. Building a relationship with him was one of the highlights of my time in Italy. The parents were incredibly supportive and respectful throughout my stay. Communication was always clear, and they made sure I had everything I needed. They trusted me, valued my contribution, and created a positive environment where I felt appreciated. They were also very understanding when it came to balancing my responsibilities with enjoying my time in Italy, which allowed me to make the most of the experience. Living in Santa Margherita Ligure was absolutely magical. The town is one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited, with stunning sea views, colourful buildings, charming cafés, and a welcoming atmosphere. During my free time, I loved exploring the local area, walking along the coastline, enjoying the beaches, and discovering nearby towns such as Portofino and Rapallo. The location offered the perfect combination of Italian culture, beautiful scenery, and a relaxed lifestyle. One of the things I appreciated most about this experience was how much I learned personally. Living with an Italian family allowed me to immerse myself in the culture, improve my understanding of the language, and gain confidence in adapting to life abroad. I made memories that I will cherish for years to come and formed connections that I am incredibly grateful for. I cannot recommend this family highly enough to any future au pair. They are warm, welcoming, kind, and genuinely care about creating a positive experience. My time with them exceeded all of my expectations, and I left with wonderful memories, new skills, and a deep appreciation for both the family and the beautiful town they call home. It was truly a once in a lifetime experience that I will never forget.

I spent a month at the Youth Hostel, and I had such an amazing time! The staff - Fatima, Anna and Martaa - are simply amazing people who made me feel so welcome and well taken care of <3 Great conversations and daily laughs are guaranteed :) (heee heee) The work was very fair - 3 hours a day (10-13) for 5 days a week, meaning you’ll have a lot of free time during your stay. The work mostly consisted of cleaning the guest rooms and common areas. While I was there, we also set up and decorated the glamping tents + did some weeding, all very enjoyable work. The living conditions were good, you’ll share a room and bathroom with up to 5 other volunteers (girls/boys seperate) + kitchen/dining room/tv-room all together (including guests). The surrounding area was just stunning! The view from the hostel is simply breathtaking, and there are lots of beautiful hikes ranging from slow walks along the river to hilltops with a panorama view. If you are a nature lover and enjoy hikes, this is the place for you :) The hostel is close to a small village named Enniskerry + Bray and Dublin - all places with lots of things to do! Useful notes/recommendations: - If you are not travelling with a car, the walk from the nearest bus stop to the hostel is about 35 minutes. Good to keep in mind if you’re bringing a lot of luggage, but it is possible to get a taxi from Bray/Enniskerry. - When using public transport in Ireland, the most practical form or payment is something called a Leapcard. You’ll be able to acquire one after arriving, but for the first day of travelling if you go by bus from Bray, bring 2-3 euros in coins (1-2 euro coins + cents) so that you can pay for the bus (they don’t accept card or change, you need the exact amount in coins, about 2,60 euros). - Bring a rain jacket! The weather changes a lot. - I recommend bringing a pair of slippers/flipflops to wear inside and for walking between the different buildings. I wore mine so much that Fatima had to spare me a needle to keep them from falling apart in the final week hehe - If possible, bring a few groceries for the first day (lunch/dinner). There is usually some free food left by guests/previous volunteers, but it is good to be on the safe side as a trip to the grocery store will take up most of your afternoon. All in all, this Workaway was everything I hoped for and a difficult one to leave. I am grateful for all the people I met who made my stay one of the most memorable experiences I’ve had so far <3

Cacilie was a cherished member of our team this summer! She channelled her inner-gardening master and helped us get on top of time sensitive weeding, mulching and invasive species control! Her pomegranate rice dish is our new fav and we appreciated her humour, curiosity and big heart. You would be very fortunate to have her on your team!

my stay with Ged and Kathy was honestly amazing! I'm so glad I found their profile on Workaway because they are truly amazing hosts. the work is fun, and you build more confidence around horses. Also made lots of friends because they (often) host multiple workawayers at a time so you're never really alone. It's a great environment and everyone was so nice! if I come back to Australia I'd 100% come back. Thank you for everything Ged & Kathy.

I worked for Will for 6 weeks from the middle of March through April for the grape harvest. The environment was very relaxed and set in a beautiful place in the mountains. Will worked to find projects that suited me and he was very easy to communicate with. If you are hoping to learn about wine, enjoy the mountains, and happy to be independent, this is a great place.

This was my first volunteering experience, and it was absolutely amazing! Jane and Dennis are incredible people, and I highly recommend this experience. I stayed with them for a little over two months and learned so much during that time. Jane is an English teacher and helped me tremendously. When I arrived, I could barely communicate without Google Translate. By the time I left, I was able to have conversations without it. Of course, not perfectly, but well enough to communicate and be understood. Jane also makes spices and vinegars to sell at a local market, where I had the opportunity to help. I also helped renovate the chicken coop and was there when she got 8 chickens and 3 ducks. She has a wonderful vegetable garden where we planted a variety of vegetables together. Dennis is an aircraft engineer and pilot. He and his friend Mike are building an RV-10 airplane, and I had the chance to be involved in the project. Dennis taught me many things throughout the process. He also owns a Beech Sierra 200, and we enjoyed some incredible flights together. We attended the annual classic car gathering, where I had the opportunity to ride in his unique Panther Kallista. We also went on several trips and outings during my stay, making the experience even more memorable. One important thing to mention is that Jane and Dennis are very modest people, but they are truly master chefs! I can honestly say that I had some of the best culinary experiences of my life with them. Every meal was delicious and prepared with great care. As for the work, it was varied and relaxed. I helped with the airplanes, the garden, the vegetable patch, the chicken coop renovation, and repairs to the animal fences. When I arrived, there was only Luna the cat. By the time I left, there were also chickens, ducks, and two horses belonging to a neighbor. I also had a spacious private bedroom and my own bathroom, which made my stay very comfortable. Finally, thank you, Jane and Dennis, for everythin

I was volunteering at Totora for 2.5 months and I loved it! Laura and Diego are amazing hostes, and make you feel very welcome. They communicate very well what your tasks are and what they expect from you. You help around the hostel, and you mostly stand in the reception and handel check ins and board rentals. Diego is often around himself if you need help or have questions. You also help with laundry and generel cleaning, they do also have a cleaning lady. Sometimes you also change bed sheets. You have 5 shifts a week, with two days off. I would a 100% recommend this place. Its also the second time im in Huanchaco, and I just love the city and its people. The surf here is for all levels and you get discounts on board rentals and classes when you volunteer. The city is both chill and also has a few parties a week. So there is always something to do in you free time. Thank you so much Laura, Diego and Santi for making my time in Huanchaco very special, I will see you next time!🫶🏻🤙🏻

My stay with Nicky and Mick was perfect. They are such caring, welcoming hosts, and now my very dear friends. Bormes is a beautiful village, but the view from their home is the most charming. I am taking away so much knowledge and experience of Mediterranean gardening, Nicky knows her stuff! Thank you both

SinLei (Eva) stayed with us for 2 months. She was so helpful with my 2 kids, who are not always easy! She made up all sorts of fun games for my 4.5 year old and got him really engaged in a variety of activities, and off the tv. She was also really good with my 1 year old and was able to handle them both for short periods if I was on a call. She is easy to live with, is friendly, tells funny stories, can make super fun balloon animals, is easy going when it comes to food, and keeps a clean space. Highly recommend Eva especially if you have young kids, she clearly loves children!
