    Description

We have a workshop on 10 acres, and a garden that is asleep right now for winter, a few trees and a lake. We are restoring a classic 1946 Ercoupe aircraft, and my husband is a licenced Aircraft Maintenance Engineer so has all the skills and tools for the job. He is also a pilot and was a flight instructor. He's also building an RV10 kit in conjunction with another local man. We have a Beech Sierra and make the occasional flight if the grass/snow runway is clear. We've a chicken house where a dozen layers will be clucking this year, and a couple of small greenhouses. I'm a crafter and cook, and bread maker.

We need some very practical help, with Dennis and I on the various aircraft and with me around garden and the twice weekly craft fair. Some routine maintenance on farm buildings is due. Garden beds will have to be turned over and planted in May, then weeded and maintained all season. Chickens and pensioning horses will need caring for.

Cooks and bakers are welcome to experiment. If you paint or sketch, we probably can help with supplies. There is a very nice piano. Other arts happily helped along.

We are generally quiet people, and our place is about 35 kilometers from town. We have great neighbours, and a supportive, though scattered community. We often wind down with Byron Lee and Bob Marley, loud classical or Latin music, and bad cooking shows. We have great TV and lots of DVDs. F1 fans particularly welcome, Dennis is a big supporter. I'm a Blue Jay's fan. Aviation knowledge freely given. Basic Meteorology tutoring offered.

During our working lives we traveled the world for various jobs, and have a wealth of experience, which we would love to share. Besides our varied aviation experience I am a qualified English teacher. We'd love to learn about you.

We are mostly alcohol free, but the 'other' completely legal drug is okay by us. However, no tobacco please.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We pride ourselves on our life experience and our travels, and our knowledge of our community and our country. We lived overseas for many years in the Caribbean and in the Middle East. We are also happy Canadians, with a true love of our community and culture. This is ranchland, and a visit to the rodeo is likely. A few sightseeing trips by car and aircraft are definitely in the plans!

We are eager to learn about other people and places. I am a Cambridge certified TESOL/TOEFL instructor, and am crazy about English. I don't want to be a school teacher but informal lessons and corrections are always on offer. I am also certified to teach air radio telephony. My husband is 'Mr. Aviation', and can pass along 50 years aviation knowledge. We can teach garden skills, aircraft maintenance, workshop skills, vehicle maintenance, how to drive a tractor, cooking and baking. We have a small library and love to read.

  • Help

    Help

Rebuilding old garden beds is a priority this spring, help would be be welcome. The soil needs quite a lot of work. I'm recovering from ankle surgery, digging isn't my forte!

Our traveler would be welcome to help my husband with the RV10, it be a very practical learning experience. Help with the Ercoupe restoration is possible. Also, we maintain our own aircraft: our workawayer can expect to see this part of BC from the air more than once, and learn a lot about how planes work.

I will need further help with the garden in late spring and summer. Planting, weeding, general care. Toward fall I will need help with harvesting and preserving.

Help with evening meals and occasional cooking appreciated. Housework and yard work are constants, but not heavy.

There will be one or two pensioning horses that need daily monitoring, and a dozen or so laying hens. Henhouse maintenance, egg gathering, feeding and watering, will be tasks.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

There is a private bedroom and toilet/shower room for the traveler's use, in a separate part of the house. They would have a desk and chair for their computer, and we would discuss television and movie use, as we have a large collection. No Netflix, but we do have Prime.

WiFi is good, and we now have mobile phone coverage in limited parts of the house.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

As we are quite far from town, you won't enjoy it if you need 'nightlife'. We drive in once or twice a week, and even then we have a list of what to accomplish. You will like it if you want quiet, a dark night sky, and a calm ramble around the place. People under 25 tend to be a bit too energetic for us, we have a better experience with older travellers.
