Vera was such an excellent guest to host. She’s friendly and down to earth to deal with but also quite independent. While she stayed for roughly a week she stoically tackled the huge job of the creeping jasmine vines in the garden as well as some outdoor painting, water blasting, car cleaning and so on. Throughout I was quite confident leaving her to work independently - at times I was actually away and she just got on with it. As a person, she was very easy company and we had some good chats- she was particularly interested in visiting the nature in the area . I’d be happy to recommend her for any work you are considering you need help with.

I stayed with Heyner and Jenny for 3 weeks from end of May to mid-June and it was such an amazing experience! For everybody that wants to experience the rural costa rican life with the most heartwarming people, surrounded by animals and enjoying a very tranquil lifestyle - i can really recommend this place! The volunteer house is simple but comfortable. Everybody has their own room and there is a shared bathroom and washing machine. Everything is out of wood and completely open so you should be open to living very close to nature:)
The work was about 3 hours/day and I mainly took care of the goats and sheep with Miguel, which was very easy. Don't forgot to pack clothes that are thin and can get dirty!
Jennys food (3 meals a day for about $9) is amazing and i would really recommend spending those $9 a day, otherwise there is also no real possibility to cook for yourself/eat out.
I would recommend checking if there are other volunteers staying as well, cause otherwise you might feel a little lonely or bored, because besides of work, the meals and some karaoke at night, you'll have a lot of free time. I would definitely recommend bringing books/work/projects;) There are some bikes that you can use so you can get to palmar norte (super markets, sodas and a thrift store) in about 20min or you can go to the waterfall(catarata), just ask Heyner he'll recommend you places and trips;) On my days off i went to Drake for one night which was very nice, Heyner was very helpful with planning the trip and arranging everything.
Besides Heyner and Jenny, their daughter Axa, her boyfriend Eike (from Germany) and their nephew Miguel are living on the farm. Eike is fluent in english which can be helpful if you don't know any spanish;)
Overall it was just a great experience and I'm always gonna remember my time with you guys!
Muchísimas gracias Heyner, Jenny, Miguel, Axa, Eike y Rory para el tiempo que tuve con ustedes! Me sentí como en casa y los voy a extrañar!🫶🏻

I had the opportunity to spent only 3 days in this house. It's really cozy and comfortable, very close to the city center shopping mall and the stadium. I recommend this place if you want to enjoy the amazing Nagasaki .

Had an amazing experience staying at Dionny’s house. My days in Tinco were spent either working on the farm with Dionny for an hour or so, out and about with the other volunteers on a side mission (collecting wood from a random tree Dionny had bought, for example), or on day hikes in the beautiful mountains… but teaching English to the local children was the real highlight for me. Work was only 1-2 hours a day max, and they’re really flexible about which days you work. Alan was great with communication and has a good sense of humour. Would highly recommend this place to others!

Mimi is an absolute delight. A fun and hard working guest who is a pleasure to have around. She weeded in the rain, helped me clear a shed, and is a dab hand in the kitchen as well. Talk about packing a lot into her 23 years, she is an interesting and interested person in the world - I wish her every success and recommend her highly to other hosts.

Diarmaid was an absolute lifesaver. He helped get us through one of the most challenging periods of our low season, when we were without a manager. He went above and beyond to support the team and keep things running smoothly during a difficult time. We are incredibly grateful for everything he did and would highly recommend him to any host.

I was at Tanya´s home just three days, which was enough for me to get to know beautiful Groningen, the tasks at her garden are super easy, not hard at all. Her place has a central location, which I loved. I expected a little bit more food, since it was a physial job. All in all a good experience.

I had an incredible experience in Tunja! The host is extremely kind, and the students are great. Most of them are teenagers in the class size is usually between 2 to 8 students. I stayed only three weeks but if I had had more time I would have loved to stay longer because I really felt at home in the apartment and the city in general. I can highly recommend this workaway if you’re interested in trying to teach English and having a temporary “home” in a very peaceful and calm city in Colombia.

I had a wonderful stay with Gail and can highly recommend this Workaway experience. Gail is a fantastic host who is kind, welcoming, and always makes you feel at home from the moment you arrive.
The work mainly involved gardening tasks such as pruning trees, planting flowers, and helping maintain the beautiful outdoor spaces. The tasks were varied, enjoyable, and clearly explained, making it easy to contribute and learn along the way.
One of the highlights of my stay was Gail’s cooking. She prepared delicious meals every day, and it was always something to look forward to after a productive day in the garden.
The accommodation exceeded my expectations. I had a luxurious private room with everything I needed to be comfortable, making it easy to relax and recharge.
The island itself is a wonderful place to spend time. The community is friendly and welcoming, and there are great people everywhere you go. It was a pleasure getting to know both the locals and other visitors.
Overall, this was an amazing experience with a perfect balance of meaningful work, excellent accommodation, great food, and wonderful company. Thank you, Gail, for such a memorable stay—I would gladly return in the future!

Micaela and John are absolutely wonderful! Their profile very accurately describes the experience, and being at the château was even better than I expected. Everyone was so welcoming, and I felt at home from the day I arrived. I really loved sitting down for meals together, experiencing local and international cuisines, and discussing our days. Everyone was so open to learn from one another, and I loved hearing and sharing stories. Through the different tasks around the chateau, I learned important skills in maintaining a home, gardening, taking care of animals, and practicing sustainability. Everything I learned will absolutely benefit me longterm. I am so grateful for this experience and would definitely come back!

I spent one week here and had the chance to be their very first Workawayer. I was feeling a bit exhausted from my nonstop traveling and the tropical heat before arriving, . Staying at Ashoka (Pelan Pelan) helped me slow down and recharge.
The hosts are very humorous and have such positive energy. We spent a lot of time joking, laughing, and enjoying each other’s company. They live in a small town near KK and are working to build an art community there. They run a lovely second-hand shop, organize flea markets, promote upcycling projects, and create murals around the town. ask them what’s happening locally before you arrive😉
The local community is wonderful. We shared authentic local meals together, and there is also a lovely lady downstairs who taught me how to weave a bag.
Practical info for future travelers: it can get hot around noon, but usually cools down after the late-afternoon rain. Evenings are especially pleasant.
Ann and William have been renovating this place for the past two years. They are not in a rush—they take things one step at a time. Please respect and embrace their “Pelan Pelan” (take it slow) philosophy. 🧘♀️☺️

I loved being part of Nina, Dan and Rokia's little family so much I even extended my stay for a day!
Rokia is the sweetest 7 (almost 8) year old and I felt so much joy spending time with her, from cleaning windows, to role playing in the playground, having pillow fights and even creating a picture book together!
Other highlights included when Dan brought us on their little dinghy for a paddle in the harbour, and going to meet other locals at their community garden.
If you're interested in having kids of your own, or if you like kids in general, I'd highly recommend staying with this wonderful family. Nina and Dan pour so much love and energy into Rokia, it's inspiring to witness.

Emma captivated us with her energy from the moment she arrived as a volunteer. She was a great help in the kitchen and the garden, and we were truly amazed by her artistic skills and craftsmanship; the flower patterns she painted on our main entrance door are absolutely eye-catching. We had such wonderful conversations with her, and we are eagerly looking forward to hosting her again.

Sophie and Simon were kind, generous hosts and their property is a beautiful grove of cork oak and eucalyptus in the middle of nowhere. Our accommodation was two beds and a kitchenette with a small camping stove and mini fridge that was totally adequate to make our own breakfast and simple dinners, but Sophie and Simon made delicious, large, nourishing vegetarian lunches and often asked about our preferences. The work was light and enjoyable, a few hours each day, clearing dead wood and detritus from the land and green house to prepare for fire season and tidying up in general. It was a nice place to disconnect, be of service, and connect with new people. Sophie & Simon are very open minded people with interesting hobbies and history. There were many opportunities for them to take us to see music, go dancing, explore spiritualism, or visit the farmers market or the beach. There is a thriving alternative international community nearby, but there’s no pressure to immerse.
Something of note is that nearby villages are not accessible by foot, and sparsely accessible by bus. This would be a good fit for someone looking to settle into the land and natural surroundings.

From the minute I met Geraldine, I knew we were going to have a good time. Her sense of humor and warm heart made me feel welcome and at home. One of the most unique and youthful ladies I've met, she's got spunk. She felt like an old friend 🩷
Her spot in Passy has such great access to
trails and an amazing view of Mont Blanc:)
Me and a few other workawayers got close and we all had fun making dinners, going on adventures and talking.
Spending time with her animals was also a treat. Both dogs are the sweetest and I miss them already :,) And paco the parrot...he's the boss of the house.

So special place. And JJ is the best man in the world!
We had so many deep conversations, he is always so open to share the experience and to help with his knowledge.
The atmosphere was like everyone knows each other for years.
It's a place to really get immersed in the everyday life in the raw, jungle enviroment.

My time at the hostel was nothing short of amazing! It was my first time volunteering at a hostel and i'm glad I did it here. The hostel is small, cosy and feels like a home instead of a big dormitory. There is peace and quiet if you seek it, and also the warmth and conversation of many friendly guests. I'd say the hostel attracts a certain kind of people, which creates a very chill and warm atmosphere :)
The work is pretty straightforward, basic housekeeping and cleaning plus reception work. Hours are pretty flexible, and the owners take good care of us volunteers. Though meals aren't provided, Marina will ask us for a grocery list and buy it for us to cook ourselves, which helps alot. It was also really sweet of the them to bring some traditional pastries for breakfast sometimes! The owners really do their best to make us volunteers feel taken care of and comfortable. I was fortunate to have another volunteer, Cristian, working with me. Thanks for being such a reliable and patient partner to work with!
Overall, I'd say I really enjoyed my time here! Definitely will be back to visit again :) Thank you guys for the opportunity to have this wonderful experience! 😉
