Description
Hello,
We are a family of three; Nina, Dan and Rokia. We're from South Africa originally and we love to travel and to meet travellers! Through our travels, we've landed up living in beautiful Picton, a great place to be!
We both work in the environmental space for ngo's, and have extensive experience in sustainability and Permaculture fields. We both work part-time, homeschool our daughter, upcycle furniture and run Permaculture courses on the side. We love music, art, books, nature, bike riding, surfing and adventure!
In exchange for 2-3 hours of housework, sharing the load with homeschooling, and possibly some help with upcycling furniture (if this interests you) we offer a comfortable room in our home. We would ask you to chip in with your own food.
There is the possibility of getting involved in some of our enviro/ sustainability work if it interests you, but is not out primary need. We are more needing help around the house and homeschooling, as well as cultural exchange.
Our location is ideal, backing right onto a nature reserve with a bike/walk trail that will take you straight into Picton town (10min walk) or Waikawa (20min walk). You can also walk to the top of the hill for a magnificent view of the Marlborough Sounds!
We're looking to host people who want to stay one to two weeks max. Must be reliable, sensitive and responsible 🙏Types of help and learning opportunities

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
We come from South Africa and have travelled quite quite bit.. plenty of cultural exchange potential there. We love art, reading and music.
You can experience Picton, you may meet some of our friends - we have a diverse and interesting array of non-mainstream friends. You may learn a bit about childcare and homeschooling.
You may learn about sustainability from our years of experience in the field.Projects involving children
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
Help
The help we require is house cleaning and cooking, possibly helping with homeschooling/ hanging out with our awesome daughter. As mentioned above, possible helping with furniture upcycling and/ or other sustainability projects.

We would love the chance to practice our Spanish.Accommodation
A room with en-suite in a big house.
We have one comfortable queen bed in the spare room where you will be staying, so this would suit couples, a single person, or friends who are willing to share a bed.
Kitchen/ lounge areas are shared.What else ...
Picton is a good location to spend a couple of days before heading north on the ferry to Wellington, or before continuing down to explore the South Island.
At the centre of the Marlborough Sounds, the natural beauty is exceptional. Epic coastline to the South in Kaikoura, mountains (including ski fields) and lakes to the west, inland.A little more information
