    Description

I am Miya, 34 years old, originally from Germany, and have lived in Norway for 4 years now.
I have been volunteering and travelling a lot before myself, and look forward to be able to give back now that I have found a more permanent place to stay and milk goats as a hobby that I can use a helping hand with. I have recently begun to milk two of the goats and produce yogurt and cheese for my and my friends' and guests' own consumption.
Here in southern Norway, you can experience warm summers by the sea with swimming, fishing and kayakking, foraging in the woods for blueberries, or mushrooms in autumn. There are also nice rock-climbing opportunities nearby.
In winter, we usually have some weeks of enough snow and ice to long-distance ski and ice skate, and otherwise just 1-2 hours drive north you can find designated skiing places.
My boyfriend, Simen, also 34, is basically living at my place every other week, my landlord, Espen, 44, lives in the main house on the same property and comes around now and again and sometimes takes guests along on his outdoor trips with his three sons, aged 12-14.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We have a very nice community with the neighbors. If you are into horsebackriding, we can arrange for you to help the young couple on the other side of the road and go for riding tours with them in exchange.
You can learn about goats and milking and making cheese, or you can teach me more about making cheese if you are advanced or have special recepies.
I have a piano, an accordion, some flutes, a violin, a clarinet and a cajón at home and enjoy jamming.
You can visit the local pub or other local village events, spend a night at a lighthouse on an island, or visit the local wooden church, and the Cities of Grimstad and Lillesand are only 15 minutes away by car.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

You will have your own little room with a double bed in the house.
We will make some food together, and sometimes you will make for yourself, you will be free to take everything you find and make suggestions for the shopping list. I buy mainly vegetarian food, when it comes to animal products, I try to use only milk and cheese from the goats, eggs from my boyfriend or the neighbors, and self fished fish / self harvested seafood, and meat from local farmers or from my friends who hunt.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

I want to create an inclusive and safe space free of racism, sexism, classism, ableism, homo- or transphobia and other forms of discrimination. If there is a need to address any of these issues, I will be open for respectful communication, and expect the same from you.

There is a second little electric car that you can borrow to explore the region.

Since I will be working full-time, you will be on your own on weekdays between 8:00 and 17:00. On the days when you are helping and I am at work, we will discuss the chores the evening before, and you will keep track of time by yourself. Once you feel confident enough, it would be great if you could take the morning milking shifts on your own.

It is an advantage if we can arrange for you to have your two days off on weekdays, and we can do chores around the animals, garden, and house together on weekends.
Having been a volunteer myself many times, I know the advantages of having fixed working and free times, so you will in no case have to help longer than 4 hours a day - if a task is not finished in that time, it just has to wait until the next day:)
