    Description

We are a family of four, our son is a 16 years old boy and our daughter is 14 years old. We live in the nice little city of Gouda in a beautiful old water tower. Surrounding the water tower is a large garden which is the domain of our cat.
I'm a creative photographer with my own studio in the tower. My husband is a hardware and software developer and is always building and automating stuff. Most of the time we are working from home.
Living in an old building with a large garden means there are always a lot of things to do. We have more plans than time for all our projects and ideas. We built a greenhouse and are harvesting strawberries and tomatoes.
In spite of all the projects, we are easygoing people and we like to watch movies in the evening (we are curious about your favorite movie and like to watch it!) or playing jeu des boules in the garden with the whole family or the guests.
    We don't drink or smoke.
We are always very involved with our workawayers and truly welcome them as part of the family. Over time, we’ve discovered that a stay of around 10 days works best for us. For that reason, we are not looking for someone to stay for a very long period, but rather for shorter, more meaningful exchanges.

  • Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We see Workaway first and foremost as a way to share cultures and learn from each other. We love welcoming people from many different countries, discovering their traditions and everyday habits, and exchanging ideas.

Some of our guests have come especially to learn the Dutch language and culture, and it’s been wonderful to help them on their way – while learning a lot from them in return!

For our children, it’s important too: growing up with people from different backgrounds teaches them that everyone has their own customs and ways of thinking, which is something to value and celebrate.

As our guest, you’ll have a unique chance to be part of daily life in a Dutch family with two teenagers – with all the fun, energy and occasional chaos that brings. We enjoy sharing meals, stories and experiences, and for us Workaway is all about making real connections.

  • Help

    Help

We are looking for a motivated workawayer who enjoys giving us a hand with different kinds of tasks. Most of the time this means helping out around the house and in our large garden. Typical tasks could include mowing the lawn, weeding, cleaning the windows of the house or the greenhouse, helping to build a wood storage, or painting the fence.

The help is not too difficult, and we usually like to join in as well – for us it’s also a nice way to spend time together, chat, and learn from each other while getting things done. Inside the house we sometimes need a hand with general maintenance and keeping things tidy.

You can stay in our caravan in the back of the garden so you will have privacy. Bathroom and toilet are in the house and shared. We eat three times a day and it would be nice if you will join us.

There will be a bike to explore Gouda and the nature around Gouda. If you like to use the canoe, that's also a possibility. The train station is only a 15 minutes drive away (by bike) so it's easy to visit the other highlights of Holland. Gouda is situated very central. With easy connections to Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague or Utrecht. We can tell you all about it when you are here.

If you are interested to share your world with us, please tell us more about your intentions, experience and your personality. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions. We like to do a whatapp videocall first to see if we connect well.
