There are simply no words for the 2 months and a half I spent here ! I’m just so grateful to have had my first volunteering in this hostel. Shelly is the most amazing host you can ever have, she is pretty much incarnating « Pura Vida ». Her and her family will make you feel like the hostel is a home away from home. They’re all really helpful and great to talk with. Regarding the tasks everything is pretty easy and intuitive (reception and cleaning mainly). The timetable is also very accommodating, you can always ask for changes, it’s very flexible. The location is perfect ! You will be away in the jungle without being too far from any restaurants or grocery shops. The closest beach is a 10 min walk from the hostel. As for the volunteers well it’s usually becoming a big group of new friends ! You’ll be able to hang out on your days off together, or in the evenings. Again a huge thank you to you Shelly and to your family !! You hold a special place in my heart for ever ❤️

Yanis is an all around great guy. He worked hard as a chef in our kitchen for 6 months this season He was really great at all tasks thrown his way and is very adaptable. He's also a skilled worker and an excellent colleague. He's easy to get along with and has a good sense of humor. Great guy, thank you Yanis!

Bert is a very smart, kind, and interesting person. From the very first hour, I felt at home. He took me wherever I needed to go, we shared great meals together, enjoyed fun and light tasks, and had some excellent chess and table tennis games. I highly recommend him, especially for anyone who’s looking for peace, good conversations, and fresh air.

I absolutely loved my time here and can't speak highly enough of the place. The grounds itself is this amazing oasis tucked away in the mountains by the river. Everything has been built with such care and consideration of the environment around it. You can hear and see all the variety of birds that call this place home and you can really feel the tempo of your own internal rhythm slow down when you stay here. The accommodation for volunteers is lovely and far more comfortable than I had experienced in hostels throughout Colombia. You really feel you are in a hotel even if it is a shared room. The volunteer "work" was really enjoyable and nice to get back into nature, also a great opportunity to learn about organic farming practices. The food is stunning with so much coming from the onsite farm you can taste the freshness and it really makes you appreciate the work from farm to table. I really enjoyed and learned so much in my time here, and it is of course thanks to the kindness and generosity of the staff. From working with Leo in the garden and him sharing his passion and knowledge about organic agriculture. To learning Spanish with Carlos whose enthusiasm is infectious and his ability to breakdown learning languages into something digestible and practical genuinely makes learning fun again, from a self proclaimed "non-languages kind of person". To Cami and Luna at reception who are there to help with any issue/task/question you may have and have a limitless amount of patience for anyone looking to practice or trying to learn Spanish. And lastly but not least Jesse who is a jack of all trades around here who is always about to help or answer questions you may have . A genuine salt of the earth person who has cultivated a really kind, warm and reciprocal community here. What they have built here is truly a gem and it was a pleasure to be part of it, even if just for a while.

Volunteering here was an amazing and enriching experience that I will always carry with me. From the very beginning, everything was well organized and professional, creating a welcoming and positive environment. Isaac and José Luis were exceptional hosts: patient, kind, and always supportive. They taught me a lot, both professionally and personally, and made me feel like part of the family from day one. Their openness, trust, and human approach truly make a difference. This is a very professional project with high standards, great organization, and a wonderful community atmosphere. It’s a place where you feel valued and respected, and where collaboration and teamwork are encouraged. I am truly grateful for this experience and I highly recommend this place to any volunteer looking for a meaningful, well-structured, and human Workaway experience.

I had the opportunity to spend a few days at Edwan’s glamping and support him with the daily tasks. I got to know Edwan as a very open, helpful, and positive person. I especially appreciated the clear and uncomplicated communication with him. The glamping is lovingly and tastefully set up and offers everything you need for a comfortable stay. The view of the mountains and the sea is fantastic and truly makes this place special. As my stay was rather short, I can only say limited things about the different work activities. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed my time with Edwan and always felt very welcome. I can absolutely recommend a Workaway stay with him and would happily come back anytime.

Gabriel stayed with us for two weeks and it was a pleasure to have him around. We shared some meals and time together as well as some of the tasks he was willing to help us out with! He is an amazing handyman and carries much better tools in his camper than the ones we have so all of the tasks were much more easily carried out thanks to him! Unfortunately, the weather was not so great during his time here so we could not do much outdoors or show him around this lovely area. All the best in your future trips! ¡Buena suerte, Gabriel!

We had the pleasure of hosting Lis for three weeks unexpectedly after her original host canceled and she had difficulty finding another placement. Although we don’t usually host this time of year due to limited outdoor work, we are so glad we decided to welcome her. Lis is a funny, happy, and positive person who brings great energy into the home (and she loves to sing!). She is an extremely hard worker who sees what needs to be done and just gets on with it without ever needing to be asked. She even took the initiative to repair a broken closet door on her own. She is a fantastic organizer and helped us with organizing around the house, painting trim, and cleaning. Lis is also a wonderful and creative cook—she prepared several dinners for our family completely on her own and even surprised us with delicious homemade baked treats for dessert. Lis was a joy to host, and we highly recommend her to any future Workaway hosts. Any host would be lucky to have her.

Its been a little over a month now that I left Tim and Nina's farm, and its almost already becoming nostalgic thinking about it. It's a nice place, and I was happy I could experience it in its autumn beauty for the first few weeks of my stay and thereby discover islands on the lake to enjoy the solitude and quiet that the season brings to it. Even more I appreciated Tim and Nina. Two genuine persons who are both intentional, clear, welcoming and non-demanding. Most of the instructions I gained from Tim, and he always did it the same way -with diligence while being open to input. This made it great to work with him. The fact that they both ran multiple restaurant must also not be understated! I guess that I havent eaten so well before for 5 consecutive weeks.. Thanks Tim and Nina, I am grateful for the contrast you so effortlessly offered.

Alexandra stayed with us for over two months and was a lovely part of our home and day-to-day operations. She helped with room turnovers, housekeeping, animal care, light gardening, and general property upkeep, and handled tasks calmly and independently. She has a gentle, kind nature and was very respectful of both guests and our family. Alexandra worked well in a quiet, rural setting and brought a positive, thoughtful energy to everything she did. She was especially great with animals and formed a strong bond with our dog, Archie. We really appreciated her time with us and would happily recommend Alexandra to other hosts looking for someone caring, reliable, and easy to live and work with. — Tim and Rebecca

We stayed with Michael and Vincenzo for a week in November and had a wonderful time. They were good company with many a story to tell as we chatted over dinner together. There was loads to do on the property and we were given full autonomity to see through what we could in our little time there. Meowmeow the cat would often keep us company which was really cute. We can understand why most travelers to New Zealand don't consider visiting the area. It isn't on the main route from Tongariro to Wellington and is a bit of a drive (the SH2 isn't an easy drive!). But it is an amazing area (the Paths of the Dead entrance scene was filmed nearby for any Lord of the Rings fans! And there's a huge sea lion colony along a beautiful coastline!) and one that is easily assessible while staying with Michael and Vincenzo.

I can only agree with all the Workawayers before me and say that Leda, Nataša and Emilio made me feel welcome from the very first second. My main task was to speak as much German as possible with Leda. She is such an amazing, open, interested and attentive girl, and we bonded very quickly over our shared interests. Communication with Nataša and Emilio was open and clear from the start. I could ask them any questions I had and always felt heard and seen. I particularly remember the long conversations with Nataša and her hospitality. Not only did she accompany me to the train station for my trip to Milan, but she also took me to the airport at the end and looked after me when I got sick. I also greatly appreciated Emilio's cooking skills and kindness! Bergamo itself is a beautiful city. There is so much to see, you can quickly reach surrounding cities such as Milan by bus and train, and when the weather is nice, you can spend hours just walking around the city and enjoying the atmosphere. Unfortunately, I had to leave earlier than planned, but thank you very much for giving me the opportunity to stay with you and I would be very happy to see you again!

Elke has been an incredible volunteer. Someone who doesn't shy away from taking ownership in the project, is multidisciplinary, and very easy-going. She takes initiative, is always resourceful, and embodies the lifestyle. It has been such a great pleasure and support to have Elke participate in our project. Anyone would be lucky to host her. Our doors are always open.

Jordany is a fantastic individual — smart, talented in many areas, kind, thoughtful, clean, and well-mannered. He is computer-savvy, a great cook, and a genuinely lovely person. It was an absolute pleasure to host him. While he was with us, Jordany helped with an incredible variety of tasks. He assisted with cooking, sculpted beautiful rice kittens, and even built and decorated a gingerbread house. He varnished, picked up various items we needed around the city, and was wonderful with our hyperactive dog, Isabel. Jordany is a joy to be around — always kind, thoughtful, light-hearted, and positive. He also helped translate a house guide for our household appliances for future guests and got along exceptionally well with people from many different backgrounds. At one point, he even chopped down a banana tree! We truly miss Jordany and hope to see him again one day. We are very appreciative of all the work he did while here and would highly recommend him to other hosts. We wish you all the very best, Jordany.

I volunteered here for six weeks. I came with the goals of improving my English, enjoying summer while it was cold, dark and wet at home, hopefully having a cool time and broadening my horizons. I was more than satisfied in every way; it was a super great experience. First of all, from day one you feel very welcome, the whole staff are very interested and always friendly. The volunteer supervisor trains you very well, you are never overwhelmed and can always ask questions. You quickly notice that the hostel has a lot of experience with volunteers, which was perfect for me as my first volunteer work with Workaway. The clear requirements and fixed structures ensure a good overview and transparency with the requirements for volunteers; you are never surprised by unagreed things. The tasks at the hostel provide a good structure to the day and allow you to meet open-minded travellers, so the evening or weekly programme often takes care of itself because you get to know lots of like-minded people. Any problems can be addressed at weekly meetings and in general, but these are usually very brief as there is nothing to criticise. Thank you very much for the great time at the hostel, which I will certainly remember for a long time to come!

We are incredibly grateful for the time, energy, and dedication Timothee brought to our organization. From the very beginning, he went above and beyond what was expected, consistently showing genuine passion for helping us and our animals. We cannot thank him enough! His positive attitude and willingness to step in wherever needed made the most meaningful difference to both our team and the animals we serve. We would welcome the opportunity to work with him again without hesitation and highly recommend him to any organization seeking an outstanding volunteer.

Though I wasn't there very long (under 2 weeks) I felt very welcome there. An interesting and diverse group in Nalangil, I enjoyed building the stairs and shelving, and rebuilding and completing the laundry/shower block. I hope to return in February or March, 2026. A very different experience from most of my many Workaways, similar to Mullumbimby in NSW. There are no llamas.
