    Description

This is a non-profit organization (NGO) founded in 2013 by ing. Liljana and her family in Vlora, Albania, with the mission of ensuring the protection, welfare, and education of animals, primarily stray dogs and cats.

Liljana founded the organization together with her family, beginning by rescuing stray animals and caring for them alongside her children. What started as a small family effort on their own property has grown into a lifelong mission. To this day, her family remains the heart and main supporters of the animals here

Our team is made up of six dedicated people: Liljana our CEO, our shelter worker, kennel keeper, intern, shelter maintenance technician, and transport assistant for our animals.

For over a decade, we have been working to build a culture of respect, care, and coexistence between people and animals, becoming a strong voice for their rights and wellbeing.

    Our Mission:

    1. The protection of animals and, in connection with it, the protection and appreciation of nature.

    2. To carry out activities for the protection of animal rights through promotions, including educational activities in school of every level and category, encouraging solidarity, voluntary work and social aggregation and the development of cultural activities.

    3. To cooperate with the relevant entities charged by the legislation in force with the protection of animals and the protection of faunal resources and the environment.

    4. To promote the perfection of legislation regarding the protection of animals and their welfare.

    5. To take care of the creation and administration of structures for assistance and shelter of animals and the protection of natural ecosystems.

    Our Core Activities involve:
    - CNVR operations and on-site veterinary care.
    - Rescue, treatment, rehabilitation, and rehoming of stray animals.
    - Education programs for children and adults.
    - Long-term & Short-term Volunteer programs.
    - Rehoming and adoption in distance.
-Reporting cases of animal cruelty to law enforcement.
    - Advocacy of Animal Welfare to the Municipalities in Albania and Albanian citizens to respect the Veterinarian Law.
    - Pursuing efforts to be potential partners with the Municipalities of Albania.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Our volunteers come from all over the world, and speak several languages here, including English, Italian, and Albanian. There’s a lot of experience in animal care and nonprofit work, and everyone is happy to share about their culture.

The shelter was built from the ground up by Liljana as the first private animal shelter in Albania. You will enjoy the contact with dogs and cats and the energy in this place we call Paradise. We will be very happy that you will be part of realizing our mission.

Albania is a discovered country and full of history. Beyond the work, this is a great place for cultural exchange. The shelter is in the perfect place to access the city and the surrounding areas. We will be able to point you to places where you can experience Albanian culture, traditions, food, and daily life.

  • Help

    Help

This is a community-based rescue working to give stray and abandoned animals a second chance. Every dog here has their own story and our goal is to provide them with safety, care, and hopefully a loving home.

With 2-3 staff and many animals in the shelter and outside to look after, volunteers play a huge role in our daily operations.

    The tasks:
    • Feeding and caring for dogs and cats.
    • Cleaning kennels, food and water bowls, bedding, and outdoor yard.
    • Bathing and brushing dogs.
    • Training the dogs.
    • Walking the dogs
    • Gardening
    • Helping socialize shy or nervous dogs through calm interaction and gentle play.
    • Organizing and moving supplies.
    • Assisting with cleaning or basic household tasks at the volunteer house.
    • Promote adoptions and share our mission.

In some situations, you may also help us get new dogs spayed and neutered or to treat stray animals. This might include helping us transport the animals, helping them during recovery at our shelter.

If you have special skills such as construction, horticultural, photography, social media, communication, cooking crafting, or animal care experience, we’d love for you to use them here.

At the moment, we do not generally provide meals, but the kitchen is available for cooking, We also occasionally eat together as a group as well.

"Pasta e Basta"- a weekly activity in which we come together at one table, staff and volunteers. Yummy Yummy a special food for dogs too!

Also, please be mindful that we have no control over the level of barking from the dogs at any given time. We appreciate your understanding and patience as we work together to care for these wonderful animals.

We have reliable internet and space in our volunteer house for those who would like to work online. We just ask that you're available to work with the dogs on the peak hours of the day (8-11am and 5-7pm). We can accommodate a quiet place for you to work, but do keep in mind that you still may hear faint barking from our dogs outside.

    Can possibly accept pets

We can accommodate volunteers who travel with pets. However, since the shelter is home to many dogs, it may not be the best environment for visiting animals to join daily activities. If you need to bring your pet, please let us know in advance so we can make sure it’s a good fit for both your animal and the shelter dogs.
