Description
Hola! Thanks for taking a look at our agri-touristic project and Spanish School in San Rafael Antioquia. We run an eco-lodge, restaurante, and bar as well as our large organic vegetable gardens, fruit forest, with chickens and fish ponds.
We have two volunteer programs here:
Farm Assistant (Long-term stays):
(Minimum 1 month stay)
We ask for 5 hours per day in exchange for your accommodation and three meals a day from our restaurant. We have a one month minimum stay and five day trial period for the Farm Assistant program to make sure its a good fit. This program focuses on tasks around the farm and eco-lodge as well as recycling and waste reduction. For the recycling program we are looking for bilingual and social people! Some of your work will be solo, so its important you are independent, but its equally important than you can work well with others as you will be working at times with the team in the gardens and help lead activities with the other volunteers! This program includes a dorm bed in one of our shared dorms, and three basic meals a day prepared in our restaurant.
Farm Internship (short-term stays):
(Minimum 6 days - Max 12 pers)
The Farm Internship is for short-term volunteer stays. We ask for between 3 hours per day (15 hours per week) in exchange for your accommodation with us. We do ask for a contribution to help with the cost of food. Some of those hours are working in the gardens, while some are in workshops led by the instructors that work with our farm. We ask for a six day minimum stay for the Farm Internship. In this program you'll learn about making compost, fertilizers, and much more with our "profe" of organic agriculture who comes once or twice a week to work with you (when available) or with one of his assistants if he's unable to come. You'll also be able to assist weekly yoga classes, salsa classes, and other events at the eco-lodge! The program is designed to be three weeks, where you will learn the basics to set up a home garden or get some more knowledge about organic farming and permaculture techniques. This program includes a dorm bed in one of our shared dorms, and for a discounted price you can eat like a guest in our restaurant, not worrying about preparing food or washing dishes during your stay.
The work is mostly in the gardens, making compost, planting, and general maintenance in the gardens, though once a week we might ask you to help with our recycling initiative or collect natural resources on the farm (firewood, sand from the river, stones for garden beds and paths etc.)

Actualmente estamos buscando ayuda en los jardines, proyectos de reforestación y ayuda para preservar San Rafael y nuestra comunidad recogiendo basura alrededor de la propiedad y la vereda para mantener el zona bonita. También buscamos profesores de yoga y ayuda con la publicidad/documentación del proyecto. ¡Ofrecemos a nuestros voluntarios la oportunidad de participar en un taller semanal de jardinería orgánica/diseño de permacultura!
Tenemos dos programas de voluntariado aquí:
Farm Internship (pasantía en la huerta):
Pedimos alrededor de 3 horas por día (15 horas por semana) a cambio de tu alojamiento con nosotros. Pedimos una estancia mínima de seis días. En los jardines aprenderás sobre hacer compost, fertilizantes y mucho más con nuestro "profe" de agricultura orgánica que viene una o dos veces por semana a trabajar contigo (cuando disponible) o con uno de sus asistentes en el caso que él no puede venir.
El trabajo es principalmente en los jardines, haciendo compost, sembrando y manteniendo los jardines, aunque una vez a la semana podríamos pedirte que nos ayudes con nuestra iniciativa de reciclaje o recolectando recursos naturales en la finca (leña, arena del río, piedras para los caminos del jardín, etc.)
Farm Assistant (asistente de granja):
Pedimos 5 horas por día a cambio de tu alojamiento y tres comidas al día en nuestro restaurante. Tenemos una estancia mínima de un mes y un período de prueba de 5 días para el programa de asistente de granja para asegurarnos de que haya buena conexión con nuestro equipo. Este programa se centra en tareas en la finca y el eco-lodge y también en reciclaje y la reducción de residuos. Para el programa de reciclaje buscamos personas bilingües y sociables. Parte de tu trabajo será solo, por lo que es importante que seas independiente, pero también es igualmente importante que puedas trabajar bien con otros ya que vas trabajar a veces con el equipo en los jardines y puedes ayudar a liderar actividades con los otros voluntarios.

Travellers on the farm have the opportunity to spend time around el macanal river in San Rafael, Antioquia--getting to know a small community of Colombians and immigrants living in the Antioquian mountains. We are trying new farming techniques, new types of construction and in general trying to learn new things as often as possible. Everyday there is something to learn or to try on the farm.

As many of our volunteer oportunities will change with the season as well as with the skills a volunteer brings to the table, it is a bit difficult to describe the daily tasks of all volunteers. That said, we expect 3 hours of good help five days a week!

Our farm is located on the river el Macanal in San Rafael, Antioquia. We are quite isolated, but surrounded by beautiful nature. With ten beautuiful swimming spots, and a waterfall on the property, the surrounding nature should keep you occupied in your freetime. There is also an eco lodge on the property with a bar, live music, and restaurant for some weekend entertainment. The town of San Rafael is about an hour walk away, or a ten minute walk and 15 minute tuc tuc drive.

Typically are internet is stable. We have a local internet provider for the entrance of the hotel and starlink in the area of the restaurante. We are in a rural area with power outages and storms, so every few weeks we are without internet for at least a few hours while maintenance is being done or while there are big storms.

I volunteered here for a week. The location is beautiful- lots of nearby hikes and swimming spots, or you can just relax in a hammock. The staff are friendly and the work was varied.
The food portions are generous and the fresh juices are delicious.

Had the most magical two weeks while working for Jesse and his incredible team. The work can be quite physical at times but is very rewarding and it varies between planting, weeding, making beds for vegetables, making compost and many more fun activities. The ecolodge is located very close to the river which is the perfect spot to be at after work.

My stay at hosts was really nice! Every day we worked 3 hours in the morning on the farm where we either would weed, plant, dig etc. The rest of the day we could just relax, take a swim in the river or go to the cute village San Rafael! The 3 meals are good and made with the vegetables of the garden :). Could recommend this place!!

There’s always cool projects in the works from organic gardening to woodworking.
