“We’ll become your Aussie country family”… that was what you told me when you picked me up at the airport. And I wasn’t sure it was possible to create such a strong beautiful connection in such a short time, but it really can with the right people. And I can definitely say that you became family to me.
The days spent at the family's were truly special, I will keep those with me forever. Sharon, Chris and Modena are the nicest and funniest people you can ever met and I feel very lucky to have been part of this crazy family for a bit, which includes also - actually they’re the real deal sorry guys :) - the horses, dogs, the sheep (love her), George the steer and much more. It was a privilege to taking care of them and getting to know their characters and personalities as well! I enjoyed every single moment there, especially the amazing rides together, unbelievable!! Cant wait to come back. Miss ya so so so so much and love you guyssss xxxxxxx

It's hard to find the words to describe the exceptional welcome I received from John and Laura. I stayed for four weeks on their farm, where they showed me everything they do: the garden, the forest, and the construction of a house. The setting was perfect, both in the little house I stayed in and in the beauty of their surroundings. Above all, they are an incredible family, full of stories and warm affection. Thank you so much for the time I spent with you and for showing me the beautiful Orewa region north of Auckland. I will take all the wonderful memories we shared back to France!

Staying at Karen in Glen’s wasn’t only a fun experience, but also a time that taught us a lot about nature and animals and the world we live in.
We didn’t stay in the yurt, but a tent, which was communicated beforehand and was a very nice experience as well. The tent was large enough for both of us and the kitchen and bathroom/shower area stayed the same. We both really enjoyed the experience, but one does have to be prepared to spend all their time outdoors. The place is very well stocked though with everything you would need for your stay there.
The work and workload were incredibly reasonable and made each day a fun learning experience. Every morning started with the same routine of feeding the animals and then each day differed on what the main task was, but every task we did was either very fun or a chance to learn a new skill or have a new experience. Both Karen and Glen would teach us so much about the plants and animals we were surrounded with and we could always ask any questions we had, so we cannot understate how much we learned here. Lunch would always be the end of the work and Karen is an incredible cook, so the food wasn’t only nutritious but also very delicious.
Karen and Glen offered us bikes as well which turned out to be a great way to relax, as there is a lake nearby to swim or relax at and the area around where they live is also a beautiful place to just take walks.
We cannot recommend this place enough if you’re willing to learn and spend all your time outdoors. Karen and Glen are wonderful people and their farm is such a nice place to stay!

Thank you Marianne and Manfred for welcoming me in your home and family! I ended up staying a bit longer then I had planned because I didn't have a plan yet, but Marianne kindly offert me to stay longer, which I'm happy I did! I enjoyed my stay very much and liked the atmosphere. They have a very lovely home with a lot of care for each other and the animals. In the day I helped in the stalls, cooking, cleaning or working in the garden. There is always some new life in their home which makes you never feel bored :) Thank you for all our conversations together and looking for the hidden Swiss cross. I miss sitting on the bench outside looking at the sunset. I'm happy that I met all of you and wish to see you again ;) Thank you for everything - Elena :)

I am particularly grateful that my first workaway experience was in this place and with Antonio as a host. The place is a natural paradise and the people are really warm and original. I spent there last August and I have been mostly occupied with gardening and a few days with making/serving the breakfast. I really liked Antonio's easy going but with attention to quality approach, while I always was made feel at home.
I was also very fortunate to connect and spend some quality time with the rest of the girls operating as workawayers or working at the facility, as well as having the opportunity to attend to local events with theatre, circus and music shows, incorporating emerging artists along with renowned ones.
I wish the best to everyone involved in Antonio's project and I hope to be able to return again sometime in the future.
Love & light!! :)

I spent a week here and stayed at basecamp. It was a wonderful immersion into local culture. I’m so grateful for the team providing this experience for volunteers. ❤️
Helping the students learn was really special. The teacher Dina did a great job letting us know the lesson plan in advance.
Abi was very welcoming and kind the whole stay. We all went on some really fun outings to explore the area, and they put in a lot of effort towards outings for us. I left feeling like I have family there now, and made other volunteer friends too. ❤️
Some things I wish I knew beforehand- drinking water is not included in the fee. The jugs can be refilled for 5k down the street to reduce plastic waste. Also toilet paper and coffee is not provided- so come prepared!
You do need a motorbike to refill the water and get groceries, or can ask someone to take you, or share with another volunteer. There’s a convenience store around the corner and local food walking distance.
Gojek ride share app and bartering at Bangsal pier for a taxi (ending up at 130k) helped me get to and from the foundation. Theres also the Perama tour shuttle van to check out for a cheaper option.
Breakfast at basecamp was a pancake in the morning. I bought my own breakfast stuff to have a more variety. Dinners were great.
At basecamp, it is very social and there are local kids and adults coming in and out of the space. You will make a lot of friends, but sometimes it was challenging for me to have little privacy. Some of my stuff went missing from the fridge but the staff offered to replace everything.
Thank you guys so much for all the work you’re doing for the kids and for this awesome cultural exchange ❤️ I hope to see you again soon!!

We had such a great time staying with Janneke, she is an amazing host who gave us a great introduction to the Netherlands. Her place is also super cozy and located in a beautiful area surrounded by peaceful canals. During our two weeks with Janneke we did some gardening and painting. Would definitely stay again, heel erg bedankt!

What an incredible 2 months we spent with Ernst. From the first moment he arrived at our farm, he gave himself fully into everything: the work, contact with us, our kids, other volunteers and guests. Ernst carries his heart in his hands and on his tongue.
No matter his age, he is physically really fit and has a broad life experience and knowledge of almost everything in farmlife and many other areas. He was of great help for us, hands-on re-organising our veggie garden and advising us on many other areas.
Ernst is really enthusiastic about learning new things and skills, always open for different opinions and honest exchanges. We had long lasting philosophical talks about all important areas of life. Ernst seems to have an inner source of youth and sparks and lights up the people around him - the young and the older alike! Often he would come home with little gifts for the kids from his exploring trips in the local surroundings.
He created deep and lasting friendships with us and other volunteers that stayed with us during the same time.
We thank Ernst from our hearts for his openness, his spirit and his good heart and we are hopeful to see him again someday!

Roslyn is a caring person who takes good care of her incredibly cute dogs and her guests and she has a lot of stories to share. She has a lovely home in a very nice neighborhood in Vancouver, it’s relatively quiet and lots of people do urban gardening like Roslyn herself, which gives the area a really cozy atmosphere and there are beautiful flowers growing in lots of places. There are lots of restaurants and shops around. Downtown is easily reachable by several busses in about 45 mins. Bonus is that you can see the mountains in the distance. The room I stayed in is very cozy with a very comfy double bed, two closets and a small desk.
Because I only got to spend time with Roslyn for 2 days I did not get to know her that well but I could tell that she is very caring and committed to what she does. Communication wise I would have preferred if Roslyn was more direct with me. For example, she did not communicate with me before my arrival that she would be leaving on a trip two days after I arrived, and we had a misunderstanding about her expectations towards me.
Roslyn loves to cook. Since I would be alone most of the week, Roslyn prepared different foods in advance for me for during my stay and she treated me to her favorite Indian food, which was very nice. Since Roslyn is also a vegetarian, it was great to be in a place that took that into consideration automatically.
Tasks wise I ended up doing some general house tasks like cleaning the rental room, stairs, balcony rails, and the house, and some garden tasks like watering and trimming. Next to that I took care of the dogs while she was away, a responsibility shared with her very kind son Sebastian, who took the dogs a few nights so I had time to explore Vancouver. The dogs are the cutest creatures ever, they love to play and cuddle, also they can be quite barky.
Vancouver as a city was very nice to visit, it's beautiful with all the nature around and downtown has a great vibe. I enjoyed a cool free walking tour from Kyle through Guru walks (can recommend!) and Roslyn had a lot of great tips like Stanley Park, Commercial Drive (little Italy) and the museum of Anthropology. These I would totally recommend too.
