Where does one even begin? Klaudia is one of the most capable, tenacious and genuinely willing volunteers I’ve ever had the pleasure of hosting. Her common sense, no-nonsense approach, ‘can‑do’ attitude and her kindness consistently surprised and delighted me. Klaudia has an exceptional ability to identify what needs doing and to carry it out with thoughtfulness, maturity and thorough attention to detail, qualities far beyond her years. She is strong, adaptable and equally comfortable working independently or as part of a team. The range of tasks Klaudia helped me with was diverse and often completed without my input. Klaudia's command of English is exceptional, so there was never any confusion regarding tasks. Beyond her work ethic, Klaudia is simply a wonderful person and excellent company. She is grounded, heart‑centred and a joy to share space with. Klaudia supported me in ways I never expected, always stepping in with enthusiasm and sincerity. Klaudia is strongly connected with nature and thrives outdoors. Klaudia assisted a friend with bee keeping, it turns out, that she is a 'natural'. Some of the tasks Klaudia helped with include: harvesting grapes, bananas, soil, food preparation for a dinner party, working on a community garden, sorting out a timber storage stockpile, gardening, weeding, creating and levelling a nursery area to accommodate root stock, house cleaning, administrative help and so so much more. I cannot recommend Klaudia highly enough and any host would be incredibly fortunate to cross paths with her. Klaudia is part of my 'heart family'. I value Klaudia immensely.

The family is a incredibly loving one and from the first moment on I felt included. We spent lots of evenings together playing RummiKub or going swimming in the beautiful damm. The family really made every individual wish come true which I really appreciated. Town is 4 minutes away with car and also reachable by foot. All sososo nice people that I was able to include in my heart with ease. I still thank about y'all regularly, best regards!!!!

Katy was an absolute pleasure to meet and host. From the moment she arrived, she brought a bright, uplifting energy and a truly sunny disposition that made her wonderful to have around. She is a very positive person who approaches everything with warmth and enthusiasm. As a volunteer, Katy was fantastic. She listened carefully to instructions, picked things up quickly, and then got straight to work without hesitation. Whether she was pruning, weeding, or helping with the general garden tidy-up, she always put her shoulder to the wheel and worked with real dedication. Beyond the work itself, Katy’s presence was genuinely enjoyable. She brought kindness, positivity, and a great attitude to every task and interaction. She would be an asset in any situation, and I feel very lucky to have hosted her. I can wholeheartedly recommend Katy to future hosts — you’ll be glad to have her😀

Thank you Jacinda for all our conversations, the Waka- boattrip and the funny movie nights😆 I enjoyed organising the house with you! Thank you Jason for taking me out on the boat and for teaching me so much. Keep going with the sourdough bread- your meals are so delicious! I had a wonderful stay with Sam and Rowena and felt very comfortable from the beginning. They are both very friendly and welcoming hosts and made me feel at home. The work was varied and interesting, so every day was a bit different. The food was also amazing. It was my first time eating completely vegan, and I honestly didn’t miss meat, eggs, or dairy at all. I was able to learn many new ideas and ways of preparing food that I will definitely take with me. The area around their place is beautiful and offers great opportunities for hiking, climbing, and exploring nature. Thank you for a great experience!

I volunteered with Adham during Ramadan, and it was a blast! Having the place mostly to myself meant I got to soak up the chill vibes and feel like I was in my own home. The hostel is one of the cleanest hostels you’ll come across as a traveller. The location is perfect because you have markets nearby, the sea only 8 minute walk! Adham’s the best host! Super friendly, funny and made me feel at home. I loved watching him jam with the kids in the building and it’s clear he has a gift for making everyone feel included 😊. The tasks were super simple, some check ins, helping Oum Kareem with chores, and she was an absolute sweetheart as well. She even took me up to the rooftop for stunning sea view and told me how all the previous volunteers would love this view as well. Alexandria stole my heart, and I’m looking forward to coming back again. Exploring the city, soaking up the vibes and discovering hidden gems made my stay unforgettable. If you’re looking for a lowkey, homey vibe hostel, then this is the spot. Adham and Oum Kareem and the kids will make you feel like family. Highly recommend because you won’t regret it! Thanks for welcoming me Adham and I wish you all the best for you and everyone in the building :)

Manal was a first-time WorkaWayer, and this was her first time ever in Europe, and she did a very good job. She thought perhaps that she would be working on the boats on the water, but they were still on land, and although she was a bit disappointed, she did all tasks willingly and well. Most of the work involved scraping and painting a tool cabinet, and pulling old flooring off the boat. She excelled in both of these tasks. She also did a good job of helping me disassemble the winter cover structure on the boat. Manal Is a devout Muslim and a modern woman who is very introspective. Despite fasting for Ramadan, she was up for all tasks. She wants to know about other people’s lives and hers as well, and clearly has been on a search to discover herself and her path to happiness. It was a pleasure to converse with her about these things. I learned a lot from her, and it was a pleasure to have her in my home. I recommend her wholeheartedly.

Kate joined us at the beginning of the year and helped by stepping into everything we needed support with. Having her stay with us meant a lot, and we’re truly grateful for all the ways she helped out around the house. Her willingness to jump in with household chores and help with babysitting brought a real sense of ease to our days. We appreciated her kindness, reliability, and positive presence. It was also simply a pleasure having her around. Sharing meals, conversations, and everyday moments together made the weeks feel special, and we’re very thankful for the time we got to spend together. The kids have definitely leveled up their English-speaking skills, and Sibbadú still says “G’day!” We wish you all the very best in the future Kate!

Maria is an Amazing human being and our time with her was so Beautiful that she has now become a member of our family/ gang :D She is great at whatever work she did here at our place. In every aspect, she treated our home and business like her own and made sure to observe everything so carefully that eventually it just felt so natural and comfortable to live with her :) We look forward to hosting her again :)

Paula stayed with us for two weeks. Paula is reserved and has a gentle spirit. She helped with raking leaves and cleaning the pool. She was a hard worker who worked well with other volunteers and also independently. I wish Paula all the best in her future and recommend her to other hosts as well as prospective employers.

Claudia and volker are two kind hearted amazing human beings. I am happy I met them and very grateful to have spent some time at their beautiful place. The work varies so you don't get bored, you still have a lot of free time to explore the beautiful island of La Palma and the communication with the hosts is clear and honest. The little wooden house is clean, tidy and you find there everything you need for your daily life, plus you have a lot of privacy and beautiful views! Thank you very much Claudia and Volker I am honored to have met you both. Lots of love

I have had such a good time at Joanna's! I can highly recommend this place to everyone who loves dogs and cats. They are affectionate pets and quite independent too, although I had to pick the oldest up by car from time to time ;). If they were not roaming off, they'd sit or sleep beside me on the terrace or in the living room around the fireplace. So cute! The house is such a cosy Spanish family home, with a big kitchen and a lovely garden. I enjoyed taking care of it as if it were my own. There are many wonderful hikes in the area, even two gorgeous ones that start right at the doorstep. Villages with supermarkets are closeby, but you do need to be able to drive there. Joanna made me feel so welcome and she radiated confidence. This felt so good!! I could easily reach her by whatsapp for any questions. She also has a lot of humour and interesting stories to tell, so I'm grateful that we also got to spend some time together before and after her holiday. I'd love to come back here. I truly enjoyed everything about this workaway experience! It was a firsthand experience of life in the Spanish countryside:).

It was a wonderful experience hosting René and Rowena at our school. They were friendly, positive, and very motivated to help the children learn English. The students really enjoyed their classes, especially the games and fun activities they prepared. Their energy made the lessons lively and engaging. They quickly became part of our small community here. They were respectful, responsible, and easy to live with. We enjoyed sharing meals, conversations, and showing them around the village and nearby places during their stay. Our students were very happy to learn from them, and we truly appreciate the time and effort they gave to support the school. Thank you again, René and Rowena, for your kindness and help. You will always be welcome back to visit our school and family anytime. We wish you safe travels and many great experiences on your journey!

Anna and Patrick were really kind to invite me to stay with them, even though there wasn’t really much work to be done since it’s winter. And as their review highlighted, the weather was not very kind during the time I was there, so we spent most of our times indoors. In spite of that, I had a wonderful time with them (they were such interesting and warm hosts, it’s hard not to enjoy their company), and even managed to try my hands at a few new things including spinning wool and making felt from the fleece of the sheep they owned. Home-made wool! Who would have thought?! We had several hearty discussions, usually over a sumptuous meal prepared by Anna and/or Patrick, often being entertained by the then-newest addition to the farm (they have had a few new lambs since I left), frisky little Grisha, and always under the watchful eyes of the ever-attentive and gentle Itcho. My stay with Anna and Patrick marked a perfect end to my first chapter in the world of Workaway. Looking forward to the next, hopefully in the third quarter of 2026. Don’t know where I would be heading but one thing is certain, I can’t wait to hit the road again to meet more amazing and inspiring hosts and fellow Workawayers! Travel safe, everyone!

We highly recommend staying with Doris and family if you have the opportunity! We were made to feel comfortable and part of the family as soon as we arrived. It was our first Workaway experience and it has certainly set expectations quite high for future stays! This made us even more grateful to be staying with such a warm and welcoming family. We were lucky enough to see plenty of sun during our stay and enjoyed doing some work in the garden as well as a bit of painting. Doris was very encouraging of us exploring what Bavaria has to offer, especially its many natural beauties, and was kind enough to give us many recommendations for hikes and sightseeing in the area. This really blew our breath away, such a magnificent spot nestled within the mountains! We loved getting to know the whole family and really appreciated the many interesting and enlightening conversations had around the dinner table. Time spent playing with Ellie in the evenings was a real pleasure - we were in awe of her imagination! We can’t thank Doris and the family enough for providing us such a warm and fulfilling first Workaway, we hope to stay in touch!

Overall the experience was good, the work was varied, we helped out at a few different guest houses, doing mostly manual labour, cleaning and painting, getting things ready for the winter. We also got the chance to learn how to replace Shoji paper in the Japanese style doors. Our hosts Lianne and Sam were very nice and helpful, they have an adorable cat called bonkers who lives up to her name. Togari is a very quiet small village however it does get busy when the ski season begins. There are a few local restaurants and a local convenience shop. The accommodation was acceptable, it does get very cold and drafty inside however there is a heater for each room which heats up quickly. Upon arrival, Lianne met us at the bus stop and took us to the supermarket so we could buy our own food. We had to clean and tidy our accommodation when we arrived and prepare the bedrooms for the other workaways that were joining us. We sometimes had access to a car, which we shared with the other workaways. Sam and Lianne didn't mind where we took it as long as we paid for the gas. All in all we enjoyed our experience, time and the people we met in Togari.

For the lazy readers: Amazing first Workaway experience! Hyde and the family welcomed me like part of the household, and between outdoor living, learning the basics of sailing, and spending time with the animals (chicks and cats), I learned a lot of hands on experience from Hyde and had a wonderful month here in Greece on the beautiful property! For the patient reader: I had an amazing time at Hyde’s property. I was the only volunteer during my stay (by choice), and because of that I was really welcomed into the family and felt like part of the household from the beginning. It was great to live mostly outdoors (even in February!). As I was camping, they really did their best to accommodate me and even prepared a bed for me in the container, which became my cute little home for the month (Sophie's trailer). There was a nice routine: we usually worked in the mornings, and on good sailing days we would go out on the water. Hyde is very passionate about sailing and he definitely managed to transmit that passion to me while teaching me the beginnings of sailing. The work was varied, which kept things interesting. I did a bit of everything: helping install a rain pipe drainage system, cleaning the outdoor kitchen, pressure washing, clearing and organizing sheds, isolation in the ceiling. It felt good to see the progress of the projects and contribute in different ways. Sometimes we had slightly longer working days here and there, mostly because I liked to finish a project once I had started it. Hyde always made sure this was balanced out though, and we compensated with extra sailing time. This place is exactly as described in the profile: nothing is hidden or exaggerated. If you respect their way of life and the rhythm of the place, it will be an amazing experience. This was my first Workaway and I learned a lot. I’m already considering coming back for a visit, also because I’ve made some new friends: the cats and the chickens.
