You will be part of building something special. Workawayers will help 25hrs per week in exchange for accommodation and yummy, healthy meals. If a healthy lifestyle is your interest we will happily share our knowledge with you.
Almeria is famous for its plethora of greenhouses that form the basis for the massive supply of fruits and vegetables to many European countries.
"One of Almería's most famous natural spots is the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park. This park is of volcanic origin, and is the largest and most ecologically significant marine-terrestrial space in the European Western Mediterranean Sea.". Uleila Del Campo is 45 minutes from the city of Almeria.
We live just outside the village of Uleila Del Campo but just 15 minutes walk from the village centre. However, as it is peaceful and isolated, it would suit people who enjoy the peace and quiet away from the hectic hubbub of the city.. We are on a 40 acre site with lots of olive trees, orange orchard and almond orchard, plus many assorted fruit trees.
As part of our cultural exchange, volunteers will be able to walk into the local village and experience rural Spanish village life, speak with the locals in Spanish and be a part of the social scene. We also have a resident Spanish farm help who speaks only Spanish and will enhance the cultural experience. We can facilitate travel to the local beaches of Almeria and Mojacar which are only 45 minutes away by car.
During your stay, you’re welcome to experience our healthy living ethos, including learning about nutrition; how to cook delicious healthy vegan dishes; and learning how to grow your own produce on the farm.
You can volunteer for a couple of weeks or stay several months and there are a variety of ways to get involved depending on your skills and interests. But no matter how you choose to volunteer, you can be sure your contribution will help to change lives for the better for people who come to visit the retreat in the future.
Volunteer opportunities include:
· Growing food on the farm, farm help. In addition to general farm help, we have a number of olive, almonds and orange orchards and various other fruit trees. We also grow much of the foods that we eat, so someone who understands the care of these and can teach us would be very welcome. The estate is large so help maintaining the grounds is essential, while enjoying the glorious Spanish sun.
· Planning, IT skills. We came to Spain with big dreams but have some gaps in our knowledge and capacity. If you’re a project manager who can help us create some structure around our planning, or have skills in social media, photography, website, we’d love to hear from you.
· Willing and ableto help? Ours is an old farmhouse where one third has been beautifully renovated .o There are many other little jobs that need to be done in the house and the property in general. So even if you don't have any specific skills but have a "can do/willing to get stuck in" attitude then we’d welcome you.
Rest is important. We are Seventh-day Adventist Christians, so we observe the “Sabbath”, resting from Friday sunset until Saturday sunset. This means you will not be required to help during those hours. You are welcome to join us in Sabbath worship experience, but not required to participate – we simply ask that you respect our beliefs. We welcome volunteers of all/no faith
We live in a large Spanish cortijo. Workawayers will sleep in the same building as ourselves. You might have to room share with one other person. The bathrooms are also shared. We offer two healthy vegan/plant-based meals per day with a light supper if necessary.
