Fede.

My very first Workaway experience in Mutare was truly unforgettable, and I can honestly say I don’t have a single negative thing to mention about the place or the people. Christa, the owner, is an incredibly brave, inspiring, and capable woman. The work she is doing for the Zimbabwean community is remarkable—she empowers local people by teaching them how to manage, run, and grow into confident and successful small entrepreneurs. It’s meaningful, impactful work that you can feel all around the place. During my stay, I helped with a variety of daily tasks such as walking the dogs, changing beds, ironing sheets, and cooking. I also had the pleasure of taking part in the cultural evening, where we made pizza together—such a fun and memorable experience! Christa is very well organised, which makes everything run smoothly. Her clear instructions and daily planning made it easy to follow and feel involved. She also generously included me in her personal activities, like yoga and swimming, which made the experience even more special. One of the highlights was definitely the people. The staff is made up of wonderful local individuals, and I really appreciated the chance to connect and spend time with them. The presence of a bohemian art group adds a unique and creative atmosphere to the place—there’s always something happening, so it’s impossible to feel bored. I wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone looking for a meaningful, enriching, and joyful Workaway experience.

Callaghan was a pleasant addition to our project. We didn't have the greatest weather or steady schedule while he was with us and he navigated it all in a very positive manner. He was able to flow with the changing demands of our situation and happy to put himself towards whatever needed extra efforts. I recommend him enthusiastically.

Thank you so much for having me! I stayed for about a month, and it became a truly special memory for me. Kelly is a really funny, kind and open-minded person. He always made me laugh. Christina is also very kind, calm and welcoming. She always talked to me with a smile, which made me really happy. Kelly made my time there so much fun. He took me to the ocean and to Mount Taranaki by motorbike and by car. I also enjoyed petting the friendly and lovely dogs, playing the guitar, and using the outdoor shower and spa! The work wasn’t hard. I mainly helped with gardening like picking up leaves and carrying them. The weather was nice so I really enjoyed it. I can’t thank you enough. After one month, it truly felt like home. I didn’t expect to have such a great time in New Zealand. If I come back to New Zealand, I’d love to visit you again. Thank you again, Kelly and Christina. I wish you a wonderful life!

Anjejoline stayed with us for around three months and was a really lovely person to have around the hostel. She is very friendly, easy to connect with, and brought a great energy to the place. She taught yoga during her stay and also took initiative beyond the hostel. Sometimes she organized beach yoga sessions for our guests, like morning beach yoga or sunset yoga by the sea, which people really enjoyed. She also helped a lot with our social media. She created some great content and even made a reel that reached over a million views, which helped bring a lot of attention to the hostel. Anjejoline is warm, positive, and very good with people. She connected well with both the team and the guests, and made everyone feel comfortable. We are very grateful for the time she spent with us and can definitely recommend her to other hosts.

Piyush visited us for a week in the middle of March.  He arrived in the middle of a rush of daily goat births, and jumped in with both feet assisting with moving goats, setting up pens, and fetching things I needed, all while in -20C and colder temperatures.   Once things settled down, he helped with making many meals by himself, tidying the house, and fixed computer and technology issues in the house, as well as taking over the daily chores feeding animals.  He was extremely easy to have around, and we were immediately comfortable with him staying in the house (normally we use the trailer, but its too cold in March).  He was curious, respectful and easy to talk to, and fit in well every time we ventured into town to relax with local friends and neighbors at the coffee shop, rink or bar.  We really hope he is able to return sometime, the visit was too short!

Volunteering here was my first ever workaway and what a great one it was! The days started with different tasks between the team. There wasn’t a lot of planting or harvesting work at the time due to the season I visited in, but there were so many other tasks to do. These included moving soil to level the beds, garlic planting, sanding, bamboo fencing and plastering the walls. There was always laughter and music, and the days often finished with sweet tea at a cafe. Bishwo has so many ideas for the site, and his brain works 100 miles an hour. His passion and sense of humour was a joy to be around. Lena brings ideas to life, pouring so much energy into the project. It’s incredible to see how much progress has been made already. It was a pleasure to meet and work alongside them both for 2 weeks! 🌼 P.s. thank you to Bishwo for taking me to the local hospital when my asthma got bad. Air quality in the Kathmandu valley is in the unhealthy category so even if you have mild asthma like me I would recommend wearing an N95 mask. Pokhara is the same so it is worth preparing (I wish I had!)

Hosting Sandra was nothing short of a true blessing to our home, school, and entire community on Rusinga Island. From the very first day, Sandra brought with her a beautiful energy, warm, open hearted, and genuinely kind. She connected effortlessly with everyone around her. With Mama Jane, she became family almost instantly, sharing laughter, stories, and moments that we will always cherish. Her presence in the home created a joyful and peaceful atmosphere that we deeply miss. At the school, Sandra was exceptional. She engaged with the children in such a natural and loving way that they immediately adored her. She did not just participate, she gave herself fully. Whether in class, during playtime, or in simple interactions, she made every child feel seen, valued, and happy. Her positive spirit and enthusiasm were contagious, and she left a lasting impact on both the learners and the teachers. Sandra is also very adaptable and understanding. She embraced the realities of rural life with grace and positivity, never complaining but instead appreciating the experience for what it truly is. That kind of mindset is rare and admirable. Beyond her contributions, Sandra is simply a wonderful human being, respectful, responsible, easy to live with, and full of life. She blended perfectly into our environment and became part of our story here. We are incredibly grateful for the time we shared with her. Sandra will always have a home on Rusinga Island, and we highly highly recommend her to any future host. Anyone who gets the chance to host her is truly lucky. Thank you Sandra for the love, joy, and memories. You are deeply missed and always welcome back. 💛

Très bonne semaine passée avec tania.douce et discrète mais ayant son caractère, elle m'a bien aidé dans toute les tâches demandées, nous avons bien échangé et ou aborder divers sujets en profondeur, ce fut bien agréable. Je recommande fortement.

Kayla stayed with us for several months and honestly became part of the family here. From the beginning she brought an amazing energy to the hostel. She is fun, positive, and very easy to be around, and guests loved her. She taught yoga at the hostel almost every day for about an hour, which quickly became one of our favorite activities. Many guests joined regularly and it created a really nice community feeling in the mornings. Kayla is also great with social media and helped bring good vibes online as well as in the hostel. She connects naturally with people and makes everyone feel welcome. She also has a wonderful way with animals. Our hostel cats absolutely loved her and she quickly became one of their favorite humans. After such a long stay she is not just a volunteer anymore but a close friend to us. We would welcome her back anytime and can highly recommend her to any host.

I really enjoyed my four-week stay with Miguel and the rest of the staff in the delightful city of Popayan. This is a very well-run organization, which provides English classes, conversation evenings, and listening clubs in a way that is fun and engaging for everyone involved. While there, the attendees can order a range of snacks and drinks from the café. It is very well attended in the evenings, with different levels of English learners in separate groups. As most of the program does not begin until after 4 pm, the volunteers have a lot of free time; the “working” hours are perhaps 2–3 hours per day at most – mainly engaging in conversational English – with Sundays off. The on-site accommodation for the volunteers is small, ensuite, and adequate. There is a small kitchen area to use for cooking, with some fridge space. You have a door key, so you can come and go as you please outside café opening hours. The colonial center of Popayan is very nice and is certainly safe, at least in daylight hours. There are loads of great cafes, restaurants, and bars to try out. A great volunteering experience – thank you to all!

Charlie arrived the day before I left and quickly settled in. I felt at ease with her right away, and the dogs clearly did too—especially Pixie, who instantly took to her and wouldn’t stop giving her kisses. We went over the dogs’ routine and had a relaxed chat, which made me feel confident leaving everything in her care. She came across as calm, capable, and very trustworthy. I’m incredibly grateful to Charlie for looking after my three dogs and my home so well. Everything was spotless when I returned, and the dogs were happy, content, and clearly well exercised. I would happily recommend her to anyone.

Amelia is very young but mature for her age, she has good humour, we enjoyed playing rummi together. She got along pretty well with the other workaway. She was very respectful. It was nice having her around.

It was such a joy having Amy and Lauren stay with us! From the moment they arrived, they felt like a natural extension of our family—like having two extra daughters around the house. They brought so much life and laughter to our home with their constant jokes and great spirits. One of the highlights was during my husband’s birthday; they were so playful and thoughtful, even holding up a lighter for him to blow out as a "candle." Beyond their wonderful personalities, they were incredibly helpful and proactive, always jumping in to help wash the dishes every single evening without being asked. We truly enjoyed every moment of their company and would welcome them back in a heartbeat. Any host would be lucky to have such kind, funny, and helpful guests.

I stayed for just over a month from January to mid February 2026. I arrived feeling quite unwell and experiencing chronic fatigue, and I was met with such kindness, patience, and understanding. Julia, Angela, and Johannas were all incredibly warm and supportive, which made a huge difference to my experience. Although it was quite cold during my stay, I loved seeing the beautiful snow. I deeply appreciated the many meaningful conversations and the strong sense of connection. Visiting the community centre Julia works was a lovely highlight, and spending time with the beautiful horses, especially Bilbo, was very special. I also got to go sledding! which was such a fun experience for me. I also loved being surrounded by nature, enjoying cosy movie nights, and witnessing the beauty of the snow. It was a nurturing and memorable experience that I am very grateful for.
