Rachel is quiet and self contained, extremely competent and an excellent worker. She spent 10 days with me and helped us tackle some complex logistical tasks in the house, and some really solid work out in the garden. She has great competence with all general garden, clearly based on a good deal of prior experience. I was able to set her an area in the garden to tackle and it was cleared of weeds, with important plants tended and given space. Her tasks included pruning, clearing away the left overs, weeding and reorganising spaces, assisting with furniture moving for steam cleaning, mouse proofing and a host of other chores. We had some time for some interesting chats and some great meals as well. While the time was short - I would have loved to have here assistance for longer- the time was very productive and fun. I hope she comes back to visit one day.

We supposed to stay with Taisia and Chain for two weeks but we ended up to stay one month! Was one of the best experience of our journey! We loved the place and fell in love with the island! Taisia and Chain have created an extraordinary environment surrounded by nature and art. Our main job was taking care of the garden and helping with general maintanence, decorating and with the other workawayers helping to build a new bungalow. Working few hours in the morning and having time to explore the island and local community in the afternoon! Taisia is also an excellent cook and prepared delicious food for us three times a day! We felt right at home! Meeting new people, learning about new cultures, and enjoying nature and the ocean was truly special for us. We really hope to return someday :) Grazie for everything!

I had the amazing opportunity to stay with Stephanie and her lovely furry babies (which I miss dearly!). As a big city person stepping into my first Workaway, I was incredibly nervous, but Stephanie’s patience and clear communication immediately put me at ease. She was wonderfully flexible with my physical restrictions at the time, ensuring I felt comfortable and valued. I learned so much during my stay. Even when I was unfamiliar with basic farming tools, Stephanie never made me feel embarrassed. Instead, she turned every moment into a kind teaching opportunity. We worked hard, but we also laughed and danced. Stephanie is a brilliant, hardworking (impressively strong!!) human and she really left a lasting impression on my heart. I couldn't be more thankful for her grounding energy , and the comfort and growth I found here.

Jean-Philippe and Anne Cécile have been wonderful volunteers here. During their time with us, they taught English lessons with dedication and enthusiasm. They also led various learning activities that actively engaged the children and created a joyful learning environment. In addition to teaching, they generously contributed their time and energy to help paint the school walls, improving the school environment for our students. They are kind, respectful, friendly, and always willing to help. Their positive attitude and teamwork made a meaningful difference in our school community. We deeply appreciate their service and commitment, and we wish them continued success in all their future endeavors.

Hi, my name is Hanna Schmidt, I’m from Austria, and I spent about one month living in Martin’s little paradise. Location: The house is about a 45-minute walk from Mocoa, deep in the Amazon jungle. The path can be muddy, slippery, and a bit steep, but it’s manageable. I was picked up in Mocoa by one of Martin’s workers, who accompanied me to the house and even carried my heavy backpack, which I really appreciated. Accommodation: This place is perfect for nature lovers. It’s a simple stilt house with everything you need, but definitely not a five-star hotel—and that’s what makes it special. The rooms are open with a direct view into the jungle, and you can sleep in a hammock or on a mattress. The toilet (a very clean compost toilet) and the shower are outside, and there is even a sink with running water. It was honestly one of the most beautiful and unique places I’ve ever stayed. Work: The tasks are very diverse: I helped build a maloka, did gardening and sewing, took care of six dogs, one cat, several guinea pigs, ducks, and chickens, and helped with cooking and household chores—basically everything around the property. The work can be physically demanding, but there is no pressure. You can take the time you need, and Martin is very flexible when organizing tasks. People: Martin is an incredibly kind and open-minded older man. He loves sharing his home and having interesting conversations. He always tries to make everyone feel comfortable. Arley, Marina, and Lokopal also work there, and even though I don’t speak Spanish, they were very patient and made me feel welcome. I will miss them and our little language exchanges. The dogs are incredibly sweet, and I already miss them—especially Nala. If you want a completely new experience and true jungle life, Martin’s home is definitely the right place. A big thank you to everyone, and especially to Martin. I loved staying there and had an amazing time.

We are so thankful to have met Gabe and have him be a part of our hotel family. He has quickly become a close friend. I can't imagine another volunteer better aligned for what we were looking for than Gabe. We have extensive projects after buying an old hotel and he stepped right in, eager to work. He is extremely kind, thoughtful. repectful, clean, intelligent and a very hard worker. His knowledge of construction and his work ethic allowed us to complete projects with ease. His work is professional quality. His quiet, calm demeanor and postive energy vibrated throughout the staff, other Workaway volunteers and our guests. If you are lucky enough to read this and have Gabe apply for your business, you will not be disappointed. And you'll probably make a great friend in a great human being! Good luck Gabe! We wish you well amigo! Mike & Jamie

We had such a wonderful stay with Liz and Chris! From the very first moment, they gave us the warmest welcome and made us feel completely at home. They were incredibly kind and open-hearted. They were also very flexible — we been able to come quite spontaneously, which we really appreciated. Communication was easy, and everything was very relaxed and uncomplicated. We had so many great conversations and shared lots of laughter. It truly felt like spending time with friends rather than just hosts. The food was amazing! We been always very well taken care of and never missed anything. They made sure we felt comfortable at all times. The work was clearly explained, straightforward, and very manageable. The tasks were simple, and there was flexibility in how and when to complete them, which made everything enjoyable and stress-free. We're very grateful for this experience and can highly recommend staying with Liz and Chris. Thank you again for everything!

I had a fantastic experience here! The place is absolutely beautiful. Robin (the owner), Rivas (the manager), and the staff are all incredibly kind and welcoming. The hostel is small so it really feels like a comfortable community. I loved meeting guests and being a part of the team. The work is fair and the and the hostel is very generous. Shifts are 5 hours at a time, 5 shifts a week, and you get breakfast on the day you work (the food is incredible! The cooks are so sweet.) Additionally, you're able to do laundry, and they're very flexible / understanding with scheduling your volunteer shifts (I was able to schedule around Spanish and fitness classes.) The volunteering task is working reception (and helping serve breakfast if you have a morning shift.) I felt I could have used more training at the beginning but the staff were kind in answering my questions and patient with my level of Spanish. If you are a light sleeper, just be aware there is a bar next to the volunteers' room (4-person). Typically the music is done by 10:30 / 11 pm. I am so grateful for my time at this hostel and would love to visit again. Absolutely, 10/10 would recommend! Muchas gracias! <3

Jessamy was an absolute joy to host! She was much more than just a helping hand; kind, attentive, understanding, and full of positive energy. We loved playing card games with her, cooking together, and heading out on adventures to the beach and bush. She even helped us renovate a patio set, tackling every task with enthusiasm and confidence, no job was too challenging for her. Time truly flew by, and we were sad to see her go. We would happily welcome her back anytime!

Lora is a model Workawayer - should have taken a mold off of her to produce lots of replicas before she left. Her personal traits of being laidback yet very focused, fit and strong, adaptable, dependable and capable - not to mention having a good SOH and communication ability - are ideal. Add in her practical experience, her skills and attention to detail and you will appreciate why I rate her highly. During her time with me, Lora helped to harvest and install hundreds of comfrey root cuttings, lots of exotic tree and perennial weed control, loaded and spread mulch, and formed part of the team staining my house. Her part in all of these roles was faultless. She more than held her own amidst the banter of the 3 blokes staying alongside her for some of her stay and fitted equally well with the women who joined us in the latter part of her time here. After setting out what I have it is probably redundant to conclude by stating that I recommend her without hesitation. Look forward to seeing you again when you call back, Lora

Gracias 🌱 😃

Tyler, Zenovia and Metro stayed with us for a week. They are a wonderful family! We thoroughly enjoyed spending time with them and sharing knowledge. Zenovia was a well of information regarding natural remedies and healthy living. They are real foodies and we enjoyed many fine meals cooked by them. The highlight was when they taught us how to make sushi, with hands on experience followed by the delightful feast afterwards. These guys are seriously hard workers and are also long time Workaway hosts, so they know the drill and just got on with their work. They did an amazing job of cutting back a huge amount of flaxes that had spilled out onto the pathways, cut and pasted Old Man's Beard and brambles, and moved firewood and rocks for us. Metro is very talented at art and painted a sweet wee mural on our letterbox. They were just so helpful in many ways and just did helpful chores without being asked which was so nice. They left the cabin beautifully clean. We highly recommend this family to any prospective hosts. You will not be disappointed and will take great pleasure in their company.

I feel very grateful for the time I spent here. From the very first moment, I felt welcomed and cared for in a very genuine and warm way. This place really feels like paradise to me — peaceful, beautiful and deeply connected with nature. Their kindness, generosity and attention to even the smallest details made this experience unforgettable. The open communication and their warm personalities made me feel safe and comfortable from the beginning until the end. I will truly miss the calm island life, the nature around me, and especially their kindness and hospitality. I feel very lucky to have met them and to have had the chance to stay here. I will carry this experience in my heart for a long time. Thank you for everything 🌿

I spent two weeks at Wanda and Brents place. Their garden is amazing! You can really see and feel how passionate both are about growing and gardening. The days were always structured and you were never left feeling confused or not knowing how to help out. I was given tasks, told why we were doing them, what they were for and always told that if I didn't feel safe or comfortable I could happily do something else. I loved this, it felt like I was really helping and not ever left confused or lost. I loved working in the mornings, having a tea break and then working until lunch. The rest of the day is then yours, and there is always places to explore near by! Wanda cooks amazing food! She's incredibly creative, and has so much knowledge to share. She was happy to cook vegan for me which I appreciate so, so much. Brent is so well studied on a huge amount of things! I loved hearing and learning all the facts he'd share. He's also an amazing craftsman, and showed me alot of his leather and wood work. I'd definitely recommend anyone to come here and volunteer. Wanda and Brent always made me feel welcomed, the work was never too hard and incredibly satisfying to see what we'd achieved. I learnt so much from both of them. Thank you guys 🌱❤️

Bonne continuation .
