Hello!
My name is Lora and I am currently working as a ranger for the Scottish Wildlife Trust on a remote Scottish island. The end of the working season on the island is about to finish but I would love to stay in Scotland over some of the winter before returning to my home in Wales for December.
I have multiple experiences working on Scottish nature reserves which has given me excellent DIY and maintenence skills. I have repaired deer fences, dissmantled and processed fences, brushcut farmland for breeding waders, cut down non-native conifers in peatlands and assisted in general site repairs.
In my current role as a ranger I carry out practical tasks to maintain the reserve. This includes path maintanence, building new sections of boardwalk, machine maintenence and many DIY skills. Living on an island has taught me to be very adaptable. When things go wrong in our accommodation such as toilet systems not working or sinks not draining, I have fixed these issues with ease. I am happy to give anything a go and get stuck in!
It is my second season on the island and I live communally with a team of volunteers. We take it in turns to cook in the evenings. I enjoy cooking for people and learning new recipes. I have a kind, friendly and approachable attitiude which is essential for living communally.
I love spending time outdoors walking, running, cycling, climbing, sailing and outdoor swimming. I like to stay active and healthy in any way I can. I also enjoy quiet times sitting and reading or going for gentle strolls to look at the beautiful wildlife scotland has.

More details about your skills
I volunteered on a wildlife conservation project in Namibia which involved animal tracking, working outdoors all day 5 days a week, cleaning and feeding Cheetah enclosures and contributing towards different research projects.
My role as a fieldwork assistant for a Red Squirrel research project in the Scottish highlands involved working outdoors all day and coping with the forever-changing Highland climate. It also involved navigational skills so I am able to read maps and use a compass or GPS to navigate.
I did a workaway in Norway with a charity called 'In the Same Boat' which involved clearing ocean plastic from isolated areas of the Norwegian coastline. I learnt a lot of new skills during this experience like how to cook for groups of people (we often cooked for 10+ people most days). I also learnt a lot about sailing and safety procedures when being out at sea for a long time.
My current role as a ranger on a remote scottish Island invovlves lots of DIY and maintenence skills. All the practical work on the island is carried out by myself and teams of volunteers by hand. We build new boardwalk sections, repair old footpath sections, process and de-nail wood, repair any damage to the accommodation and resolve any plumbing issues. We are on a remote island so anything that goes wrong we have to adapt and fix ourselves.
I have excellent customer service and hospitality skills from working in a gift shop and cafe. I love talking to new people and finding out more about their life.
I enjoy cooking for myself and other people. I have lived communally with people from all walks of life and enjoy sharing stories and cultures through cooking togetehr.Age

They are both hardworking. Can be trusted to get on with work unsupervised. Are great to be around. Funny. Genuine. Patient. Will try their hand at anything and everything and see it through to the end.

Josie picked us up from the bus station in Tortosa and made us feel very welcome straight away. She told us everything we needed to know on the drive to the farm and what she expected from us.
