Callaway was a wonderful volunteer who fit right in with our new summer team the moment she arrived. She is intelligent, hard working, very pleasant, and a joy to be with. She took on our kitchen captain role, which means managing everything to do with our very large kitchen, ovens, dishwasher, pantry, basically everything that governs the food at the chateau. She's very organized. Her smile! It made every day brighter and we missed her very much when she left. We hope she'll return and are very grateful to her for her volunteer time with us.

My second family, my Irish family… You are an incredible family. I don’t think any text could ever be long enough to describe the extraordinary experience I had with you, or to explain how important you have become in my life. These almost four months spent with you have been incredible, very enriching, and have helped me improve my English so much. Thank you for everything you have done for me, for your warm welcome, your kindness, your generosity, and all the love you have given me. I am going to miss you so much. I have shared unforgettable moments with you. You will always hold a special place in my heart. Chevy and André, you are like my little brothers. Or, as André and Chevy would say, “Mommy Maeva.” I love you both so much. You are incredible, adorable, and such lovable children. Watching you grow during these months has been a true joy. I am going to miss you so much, and I will always love you dearly. Jacob, thank you for everything you have taught me, whether it was about the house or through all our conversations. You are an exceptional person and an amazing father. Thank you for your patience, your kindness, and everything you have done for me. And of course, thank you for MY DREAM BREAKFAST, which I will never forget! Shelah, my Mommy… Thank you for all the incredible moments we shared together. I am so happy that we were able to share so many experiences together. We got to experience so many things together: our driving lessons, our amazing surfing day, the hikes, bowling, shopping days, beach days because I LOVE THE BEACH our movie nights until late, and so many other memories that I will cherish forever. All these memories will stay with me forever. Thank you as well for all your wonderful meals, which I will sincerely miss. They were all amazing you are the best chef! I will never forget you. Today, you are part of my family. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you have done for me. I love you all so much. Never change. Keep being the extraordinary family that you are. I love you very much, and I already can’t wait to see you again. I am going to miss you so much. Love, Maeva ❤️

I really enjoyed the two weeks I spent on the project in Yakushima and recommend taking part. Everything was well-organised. I was given a schedule for each week's activities and the amount of work felt fair for what was given in return: Accommodation and a weekly food budget. Staff stick to the schedule, so I felt no expectation to work beyond my allotted hours and that my time felt valued. This also meant that I had some time to explore the island. For the work, I did some weeding in the tea fields at the farm, produced some social media content, made some pins, prepared some advice documents for other volunteers, and cleaned the house. In return for the work, I stayed in a lovely traditional-style house which is set up nicely for volunteers so that you can prepare meals. I believe the maximum occupancy for the house is 2 or 3 people. The house was in a small town and had walkable access to the supermarket, public transport, bakeries, and restaurants. I was also given use of an electric bicycle both for getting to the farm and for personal use. Every single one of the staff I interacted with were some of the loveliest down-to-earth people. It was a pleasure to chat with everyone and I felt very welcome and clear on what I needed to do. Particular shout-out to Marianela who coordinates the volunteers and who I felt had a genuine interest in my welfare and enjoyment. I was on the island before the school term started, and therefore I was only able to have a tour of the school. However, the teachers who led the tour were lovely and I enjoyed learning about the ethos of the school. Yakushima is a beautiful and relatively remote island that is a quiet place to enjoy nature. There is lots of amazing (and some difficult) hiking. Just note that it's hard to get to some areas without a rental scooter/car due to the limitations of the public transport. I would be very happy to return and happy as well to volunteer again with this project.

What a wonderful stay we had with Jayne and Richard. Their house and garden are beautiful and their company was even better. We learned a lot while working in the yard and cooking together with expert guidance and had many lovely adventures out to Lugo and beyond. We are so grateful for the warm welcome and generosity we received and recommend Jayne and Richard to the highest degree. Thank you both for everything!

Thanks to Chris, I had a great time exploring Coromandel! He is an excellent host who provides great tips and useful information about the area. I really enjoyed the relaxed environment, the independence, and the excellent communication. I stayed in a beautiful cabin with a stunning view, which provided a very comfortable stay during my time there. The work hours were fair, and the work itself was diverse and enjoyable—even the war I waged against the jasmine plants! 😉 Flo Jo is a lovely companion as well. I would highly recommend staying here!

We had a great time helping Jane in her beautiful home. jobs consisted of cleaning the pool, painting the roof, re potting plants, strimming, lots of sweeping, watering plants, stacking wood, cleaning and cooking. Jane made us feel very welcome into her home and respected I had to do a little online work in the evenings for a few hours. Jane often made lunch (unless busy with the pottery) and wow Jane can cook. Jane helped us by picking us up and taking us us the the train station. We wish Jane all the best with future work awayers and the maintenance of her lovely big home and grounds.

This was without a doubt the best Workaway experience we have had, and we left with memories we will genuinely carry with us for life. From the moment we arrived, we were treated with so much warmth, kindness and respect that we immediately felt welcomed rather than just volunteers. The atmosphere was peaceful and relaxed, and it felt like becoming part of a family and community rather than simply helping at a project. The work itself was varied and enjoyable. We helped with general gardening duties, room cleaning and preparing spaces, but one of the absolute highlights was helping with a children’s camp. We had the opportunity to design activities and run them ourselves, which was so much fun and incredibly rewarding. Seeing the children enjoying themselves and getting involved was such a memorable experience. Outside of helping, we were also treated to amazing cultural experiences around nearby Melaka, which gave us a much deeper appreciation of local life and culture. The surroundings themselves are beautiful, peaceful and full of nature, with boats available to kayak on and lovely places to relax and unwind. What really made this experience special though was the hosts. The generosity, conversations, laughter and genuine care shown to us made this place feel very special. We honestly could not recommend staying here more highly. If you are considering applying, do it. You will leave with far more than you expected! 💥🐥💥!

We accepted Nathalie as a Workawayer because she chose to undertake a period of fasting before replying to us, believing it would give her more chance to be accepted when she has a clearer and purer mind. During her stay, Nathalie proved to be a dedicated and caring helper. She took excellent care of our dogs and of our garden. She consistently showed a strong willingness to contribute and went out of her way to ensure that we should be satisfied with her work. Future Workaway hosts will be pleased to be served by her when it comes to her skills in vegetarian and vegan cooking, complemented by her knowledge of nutrition. Nathalie is hardworking, considerate, and genuinely committed to supporting her hosts’ needs in the best way she can. We wish her every success in her future life experiences.

Thank you so much to the whole family for this amazing experience! From the very start Juan Camilo made me feel so welcome and comfortable, and went out of his way to give us the most incredible time in Tenjo. Our days consisted of helping to care for the horses with Don Alirio; (who was so patient with my terrible Spanish) it was lovely to see how much he cares for the horses. Then we would prepare food together, and I got to try so much delicious homemade Colombian food. I really enjoyed our afternoons in the town, getting coffee and playing so much monopoly deal and cambio, and watching films (and playing more monopoly of course) together at night. I was lucky enough to ride Rhianna, one of the family’s beautiful Friesians, which is a memory I won’t forget, along with the Cabalgata. I am already missing Aston and Ginebra, Gato and the horses so much. Shoutout to Emma, Lélé and Mathys who were the best fellow workawayers. I felt so welcomed into the family’s home and can’t thank Juan Camilo enough for his hospitality and for sharing their beautiful home and a glimpse into their life with us. I will remember my week here forever and have definitely made friends for life :) Until we meet again! Ruby xx

I spent five wonderful weeks in Macclesfield and enjoyed every moment very much 🌞🍃🌸 Bernward is an incredibly friendly and warm-hearted person who is very easy to talk to. He always takes the time to explain things properly and supports you patiently ☀️The work in the garden was one of my highlights. Being outdoors in fresh air, learning new things, and even creating my very first compost together felt very rewarding. I was also able to try many different things such as baking cakes and cookies 🍪, making applesauce, and learning new skills in the workshop. I made beautiful necklace pendants and a jewelry box with Bernward, and I enjoy them every day. Everything was explained patiently and in a very supportive way. The atmosphere in the house is incredibly warm and welcoming. You quickly feel at home here. What I also really enjoyed were the shared moments: game nights, movie evenings, and small trips together (to the sea, to see kangaroos and koalas, Victor Harbor, and much more). In addition, I also found time here for creativity, from painting to crafting. Thank you for the beautiful things I was able to see and experience. Overall, I am very grateful for this experience 🥰🌞 I learned a lot, felt very well cared for, and truly enjoyed everyday life here. I will definitely miss this place and can recommend it to anyone looking for a meaningful and warm-hearted Workaway experience. Thank you Barbara and Bernward for this wonderful time! 🧡

I highly recommend this project to anyone looking for a meaningful and enriching volunteer experience. It is truly a place where you can grow, contribute, and create beautiful memories. I volunteered at the Academy as an English teacher for one month, and I truly feel blessed for this opportunity. Working with the children was an unforgettable experience. They are incredibly kind, loving, and welcoming, which made every day meaningful and rewarding. The advanced English class, in particular, was very engaged, participative, and dedicated to learning. Luis, the project owner, is extremely attentive and always makes sure that volunteers feel supported and comfortable. The entire staff is excellent, friendly, professional, and always willing to help. The other teachers are kind, polite, and a pleasure to work with. The location is very convenient, with many stores nearby such as a pizzeria, pharmacy, supermarket and ATM. The facilities are good, and the food provided is satisfying. Overall, everything was very well organized and welcoming. I honestly have nothing to complain about. My experience was extremely positive in every aspect. Thank you so much!

We spent 10 days with Romi in the Sumatra jungle. It was a fantastic experience; we met lots of villagers, all very friendly and welcoming, making us feel at home. The day began with Rafli's fantastic breakfast, helping Romi, and then a refreshing dip in the river. Everything was excellent. Romi guided us through the jungle, giving us information about the local flora and fauna, and he also guided us on the three-day Bukit Lawang jungle trail! We highly recommend this experience, as there aren't many places like it in the world! Special thanks to Romi, Rafli, and Ipan for being fantastic!
