Description
Hi, we're Jayne and Richard, an English couple living in beautiful rural Galicia in north-west Spain. We're in Lugo province, about 20Km from the city of Lugo which has several World Heritage awards and is a stopping point for the Camino Primitivo to Santiago de Compostela.
We have an old stone farmhouse that we've been eco-renovating for a few years with about 1.7 hectares of land, some of which is cultivated with a veggie patch, soft fruit and a small orchard. We try to be organic and eco-aware in the way we live. We share this with 2 cats and an old but boisterous dog.
We always need help with things like grass-cutting and weeding (so having some gardening knowledge is useful); plant care; harvesting and preserving later in the year; any other jobs that come up. 🙂
Right now the priority is getting on top of the weeds!!!
In return for your help we offer comfy bedrooms with ensuite bathroom (toilet and shower using solar heated water) in our house, home cooked meals, bread and cake.
We'd love you to come and help if you have common sense and are able to work on your own. A cheerful and mature outlook is a plus, as is having some initiative. If you're willing to cook during your stay that would be great.
WE DO NOT ACCEPT smokers, drug-takers, heavy drinkers or children.
We only have 1 or 2 people at a time. Stays are just short-stay, of about 2 weeks.
PLEASE NOTE: we don't have an internet connection here, web-connection is via smartphone.Types of help and learning opportunities

We're always interested in how other people view the world, their customs, way of life and most definitely their food!
Help
Mos thelp required is outside: mowing, weeding, perhaps strimming, cutting wood, helping with the veggies etc. Being willing to have a go is the important thing.
If it's a large job we'll work together but sometimes you'll be on your own. We'll mostly be around and make sure you're happy with the task. Richard has lots of tools that he will tell you how to use properly, if they're needed.
If the weather's bad there will be painting, re-decorating and the like indoors but the priority is always outside.Languages spoken

Twin-bedded room, ensuite bathroom with toilet and solar-heated water/shower in our house. We have space for your own small camper vans if you prefer (not supplied)
We supply 3 meals a day and breaks. We normally cook (with you helping on some occasions) or you can cook for us.What else ...
We are close to the main road (about 2Km) which has a bus service to Lugo, Santiago de Compostela, Ourense. From Lugo you can get a bus to A Coruña, Madrid, even international destinations. The train service isn't as good, the nearest station is Lugo.
Lugo is a small city and has World Heritage status for it's cathedral and Roman wall; a number of shops and parks; several museums, most of which are free. The old part of the city has wiggly lanes to explore and there are a number of access points to the top of the wall.
As we live in a mostly farming community there are not many walks in the immediate area. The nearest small town is about 3Km away but access is via a busy main road and down a steep hill! Not recommended to walk along.
We are non-smokers and occasional drinkers. Please don't ask to come if you smoke or drink lots.
Our main-meal is at lunchtime.A little more information
