100% Positive Vibes !! What a wonderful time we had with Leela. Next time will be longer! There are many projects to choose from that match your skills and interests. She is flexible if you are hardworking and want to be independent, or she can work aside you to assist as well. Inspirational conversations, great cultural exchange, and amazing food. Learned new yoga and breathing techniques that will stay with us in practice everyday. She showed us all around Whangerai and connected us with the community, meeting many new friends. Feels like home :) Ka kite ano.

We stayed with Nickei for 8 nights, having just arrived from South East Asia we had a lovely welcome from Nickei, Pete and Gus! The house is absolutely beautiful, the garden so peaceful, it was such a treat getting to eat Nickei's food fresh from the garden. We worked 5 hours each day for 5 days, doing weeding, wood stacking, moving furniture and general tidying up of the garden, Nickei was clear with her instructions. We really enjoyed our evenings of Catan, Nickei's homemade blend tea and meeting her daughter and dogs! We were made to feel welcome and appreciated for the work we did which was really nice. Thank you for having us Nickei 🥰

One of our favorite places so far in New Zealand. We spent the first three weeks of our New Zealand trip with Tiaki’s family and were welcomed so warmly that we didn’t want to leave. We loved spending time with the family – having great conversations, playing games with the kids, and creating so beautiful memories together. We also learned so much in the garden, especially while planting potatoes and kumara in November. From the very first day, we felt like part of the family. We would come back anytime and are very grateful for this wonderful experience. ✨

Gigi stayed with us for a month. He was such a lovely person to be around and work with. Even though his English is less we communicated very well. He is skilled, capable and goes above and beyond. It’s like living with family in that way. We already miss him and welcome him again. We highly recommend Gigi to anyone. Happy journeys.

Martina and Francisco were wonderful volunteers! They brought such a great attitude and were always so helpful, no matter what was needed. They also cooked the most amazing food that we really enjoyed. I highly recommend them to any host!

I had a great week at this project. Everything went very well from the beginning: communication was easy and clear, and I felt welcome straight away. The project is interesting and meaningful, the place is beautiful, and the work is varied. The staff and people involved are very friendly, open and supportive, which made the experience even better. I would definitely recommend this host to other volunteers.

I stayed with Mehdi and Najat for a few days recently. Unfortunately, it rained really heavily most of the time so I couldn't help much. But it was still a great experience. They are so welcoming and it was lovely to share the rhythm of their daily life with them. Najat cooks amazing food, and watching her make galettes was a lesson in mindfulness. Their son Iyad came at the weekend and I helped him with his homework, which made me feel a bit more useful. I am already planning to go back when it is busier and I can offer more help. Thanks Mehdi, Najat, Iyad and Adil for your warm welcome.

We've hosted many backpackers over the last 14 years (mostly through another platform) and Jacob and Daan are standouts! They exceeded our expectations in all areas - their work ethic is exemplary, they were keen and interested to explore the area, they were easy-going and fun to have around, and their English is excellent. We highly recommend them, and we zullen ze missen (we will miss them).

Pierre came to us for a workaway. He was polite and kind and always enthusiastic about the work that we had to do. He fit in well with our family life and we would happily have him come again. We would highly recommend Pierre to any future hiss.

Allie is the best. We could trust her more than 100%. She loves animals and has built a wonderful bond with our dogs. She's proactive and keeps her promises. We miss her and wish she would come back.

We had the most special experience with Ewen and Lesley during our work away. From the moment we arrived, we felt instantly welcomed and completely at home. Their kindness and generosity went far beyond anything we expected, and being part of the cottage felt genuinely meaningful and memorable. They went out of their way to make sure we experienced the area fully, like taking us to the zoo, giving us a wonderful tour of the surroundings, and even insisting we take the car out to explore, which made such a difference. Lesley kindly took us to our new place, which was incredibly touching and meant so much to us (a hard goodbye). Evenings were especially memorable, with stories and cultural exchange shared over dinner. We really enjoyed the conversations and learning so much along the way. Ewen was always happy to share his knowledge and explain things in a way that felt open, respectful, and easy to understand. This was more than just a place to stay or work, it felt homely, special, and deeply appreciated. We’re so grateful for the experience, and we’ll absolutely pay that generosity forward. Being part of this project feels like something you carry with you forever. We would recommend staying with Ewen and Lesley without hesitation. Thank you ♥️ Hattie & Ellie

We were delighted that Matthew chose to stay with us. He was extremely considerate of all the members of our household, particularly when he had cold and flu symptoms - volunteering to wear a mask and quarantine himself. Fortunately he didn't pass on any bug and recovered quickly; doing all sorts of undemanding domestic jobs at the cottage (including staining the verandah shelling lots of walnuts, thank you!) but he was soon helping to poison wilding pines by abseiling down steep cliffs! Unfortunately we didn't manage to make use of his track-building expertise, but he did lots of other things to help us over the busy social Christmas and New Year time. He checked traps daily, watered fruit trees, weeded native trees, maintained, fed and staked my much-neglected tomatoes and cooked a few delicious meals for us. He was easy company, and proved to be a great conversationalist with my mother. He was very hard-working and had great attention to detail, keen to complete any task he started. I would highly recommend Matthew to any other host.

This is a little late as we volunteered back in April but my partner and I stayed with Kelly for 10 days and it was so much fun! The school is slow in April so Kelly would take the volunteers around to different hikes and waterfalls when there were no students for the day which was so kind! It was our first workaway experience so we didnt know what to expect but it was very laid back and all the children we worked with were wonderful! There were 2 other volunteers there during our time and we all did english lessons with students and other various tasks. I painted some of the bathrooms in the school and my partner had quite a few german lessons since she is german and apparently many of the kids also learn german in school. The other volunteers did some social media work but we all found our tasks to be very chill and fun! We also enjoyed some dinners together cooked by Nnang, Kellys assistant, which were so amazing and felt really special. The area is really nice too and theres a food market every night across the street which has so many options and the cute little cafe right next to the school has the sweetest owner and great coffee. If anyone is wondering about the area you definitely have plenty of options! We had plenty of free time to go and explore the city which is about 30 mins away by a grab. If we went back to Chiang Mai we would definitely come visit Kelly and the school again!

We stayed with Nicola, Damien, and their family for a month, and we can say that the time we spent with them was wonderful. Nicola and Damien are great people, with excellent character, attentive, and very flexible. Not to mention Nicola's parents, who are fantastic, kind-hearted people who even gave us a ride to the city when we needed it. In the second week, we were also invited to participate in the pizza night at Zoe's birthday party, and that was really cool because it made us feel like part of the family, but I confess that we were a little embarrassed at first, hehehe. Nicola was always very concerned, especially about our comfort, and always asked if we were missing anything in the house (which, by the way, is an excellent and very comfortable place to stay), and we noticed how attentive she was in the smallest details, because in a day-to-day conversation, when we mentioned that we liked pasta, she included that item on the shopping list. Damien has a very busy life, but he always supported us and taught us how to do activities we didn't know how to do, always with a lot of patience, even though Luiz had a little more difficulty with English. Luiz and he maintained a direct line of communication on WhatsApp, which made this process easier. As for work, we did a little bit of everything, such as: sweeping leaves because the property is very large and requires this constant maintenance, washing fences, cutting fallen trees, helping with gardening, cleaning the house on some days, and even helping a few days with the work to alter the heating system that Damien is working on. On these days, the work was a little more physical, but Luiz loved it because he operated a mini excavator and a demolition hammer. With the exception of this last job, the rest was super easy to do, and we agreed with Nicola to complete the requested 25 hours in 4 days. The house is a bit far from the village of Adare, and we needed a ride to get to town a few times. If the bicycles had had inflated tires, we could have used them a few times, but that wasn't a problem. In the end, we can only thank the Varley family for the experience. We have a great affection for you and we say this from the heart.

Roli and Nelia welcomed me with open arms and made the first week of my travels (and my first workaway experience) around southamerica a really memorable one. Although work on the farm was hard, especially with the weather not being great, it was incredibly interesting to see the process from cutting trees, harvest cacao fruits and the process of turning the fruits into so many amazing products. I will definitely miss the beautiful garden they have in Omoa, the baleadas in the morning and all the great talks and discussions I had with Roli and Nelia.

Thank you so much for these beautiful words 💛 I’m really happy I could welcome you last minute, and from the very first pizza night it felt easy and natural to share time, work, food and conversations together. Your help, presence and positive energy were genuinely appreciated, and I’m glad you felt at home. You’ll always be welcome, whether it’s for a visit, another stay… or yes, maybe one day as neighbors in the village (that would be AWSOME!) 😉 A big hug to both of you and thank you again for everything!

Everything went great with Zhili. She took care of the guesthouse and made Hot Pot and other dishes to try , very spicy and delicious. Cheerful and took on every task I had for her. Highly recommended for everyone considering her as a Workawayer.

Roger and Brenda are truly wonderful hosts whom we can wholeheartedly recommend. At the same time, they are such a special family that we almost feel like keeping them a secret. We stayed with them for 39 days, and from the very first day, we felt warmly welcomed as part of the family. The accommodation was very comfortable, and our family of four had a private room, which allowed us to settle in easily and feel at home right away. When timing allowed, we shared meals together, had access to Wi-Fi, and were free to use the shower. We were also included in everyday life, enjoying New Zealand treats such as liquorice and hokey pokey ice cream together, which made us feel truly welcomed into their home. Most of our work focused on plums, and this became one of the most memorable parts of our stay. We watched the plums change from green to red and then deep purple as they ripened. Harvesting, sorting, packing, and preparing for the farmers’ market became part of our daily routine, and fresh plums quickly became our family’s favourite. We also helped with tidying and organizing rooms, painting doors, mowing lawns, and making signs for the market. The workload was always well balanced, and we appreciated that Roger and Brenda often encouraged us to take breaks. This stay was about much more than work. We shared many conversations, played games like Bananagrams, and especially enjoyed geocaching together — achieving our first FTF (First to Find) was a highlight. Spending Christmas and the New Year together was also a special experience, and celebrating a summer Christmas with their friends and family is a memory we will never forget. What made this stay truly special was the way Roger and Brenda cared for our children. They treated them like family, spending time walking and talking with them. Brenda taught our daughter knitting, which gave her great confidence, and Roger taught our son how to use the lawn mower and helped him gain confidence in communicating in English. As parents, seeing this growth was incredibly meaningful. This was a warm, generous, and deeply human Workaway experience that we will always treasure. Thank you so much for an unforgettable stay in Manakau. Manakauでの忘れられない滞在を、本当にありがとうございました。
