    Description

We are a family of five - Michael and Sabella, Elena (9), Frederick (6) and Owen (4) - who has recently moved from interstate to Darwin. We are loving getting to know Darwin and making it home, and also have a new house which is a lovely classic tropical Darwin style house, but is in need to a little repair and renovation to restore it to its full potential. We are looking for general help with busy daily life of our growing family and potentially a few house improvement projects if you have useful skills to share.

We offer travellers a great location to be based to experience Darwin’s relaxed tropical lifestyle and famous Dry Season events. We are in Fannie Bay, one of the most popular beachside suburbs and within walking distance of Parap village with its famous market, Fannie Bay Gaol museum, and East Point reserve. Botanic gardens, Mindil Beach market and the City are also an easy bike ride or bus trip away. We are also new arrivals and still getting to know Darwin ourselves, and would welcome you to join us as we get about!

  • Help

    Help

We are mostly looking for help with our kids, especially when Michael is away for work and Sabella appreciates an extra set of hands and eyes! This could include:
    Indoor and outdoor play
    Supervising swimming in our pool
    Walking to/from school
    Help with homework
    Preparing snacks
Babysitting when Sabella needs to go out
If you like to cook, preparing a few shared meals would be greatly appreciated!
If you have music knowledge - piano lessons?! (We have a piano)
We also have lots of potential projects around the house for repairs and improvements, so if you happen to have skills in this area or are interested in helping with this type of thing we’d love to know!

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

Workawayers will have their own separate living space downstairs in a large airconditioned room with a single day bed that converts out to a double bed if required/preferred. You will have your own bathroom with shower, and there is also a fridge and basic kitchenette available for you downstairs. Basically you mostly have the whole downstairs area to yourselves, however the one thing we still need access to is the washing machine.
The family lives upstairs which is where the shared spaces of kitchen, living rooms and deck are and you are also welcome to make yourself at home up there, subject to respecting that we like quiet evenings after the kids bedtime.
For food we will generally suggest that workawayers prepare their own breakfast and lunch at a time that suits them, but that we aim to share dinner altogether on the deck. This is flexible though and can be worked out as we go.

We are former workawayers ourselves, having used the program when travelling in Europe back in 2011. We would love to be able to act as host now to enhance the experience of likeminded travellers who enjoy experiencing places from a local perspective.
